1. Wow Mark thats some progress you are making.Keep up the good work and remember to take it slow.Bogie must really be so pleased at all the atention he is recieving.
2. I have never had to clip Charlies nails,he usually does not need it.After once again treating the scratches on my arm I decided something needed to be done.So tonight Charlie was in a cuddle mood so I took advantage of this and got my nail clippers.Charlie allowed me to pick his feet up and clip the very tip from his nails.I was amazed,I was not expecting that,he does let me play with his feet but that was so unexpected. He even looked like he enjoyed it.I am so proud of him.
3. Welcome Dana.Beautiful photos. My guess is that your grey has started plucking because of the move. They are very easily upset by change.I am sure he will settle down again once he gets aquainted with his new home.we have a couple of people with eclectus hear so Applejax wont be alone.I love his name.Rhett does not look like he is plucking too bad from the photos.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/04/26 22:49

New Ekkie!

Verde has settled in great.I am so pleased for you.Ekkies are beautiful birds.
5. Believe me, even if they dont say a word they can know its meaning.Always tell your grey whats going on.eg, shall we clean your cage, want some toast, want some water, nice bath, want a head scratch and so on. They soon realise what actions these words are linked to.I agree about the whistles, use words in place of whistles.I must say though that my grey and tiel do whistle tunes and things they have picked up and I do love hearing them whistle but both are very good talkers.
6. Shaka Zulu looks great in his new cage. Its great he went in it so easy.He knows whats good for him.
7. I think it depends on how well socialised the bird is. My grey does not like it too much when my nieces and nephews come round.I think the fast eratic movements children make can unnerve them if they are not brought up with children.Other animals may be ok depending as Dave said on personality. If your children can understand the need to be calm around the grey and be relied on not to feed it any forbiden treats It could work out.
8. It does sound like she is doing much better.I hope all turns out well.
9. Real radio (new name of century radio) took a petition to Downing Street campaigning for a public holiday on St Georges day.

New Ekkie!

Wow its Saturday.I cant wait to hear and see more.
11. Oh that is so sweet.I agree that being able to fly is best. It is so cute when they wag the tail feathers.
12. He is gorgious. It sounds like he is doing well.Keep giving him treats by hand and as you both gain confidence begin teaching the step up.He sounds like a very quick learner.
13. I would say you are almost there Pat.I would continue to moniter her weight and offer a night feed as you are doing. She is just on weaned.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/04/25 21:13
14. Perches need to be a veriety of width and texture ,I believe bathing can begin once they are fully feathered,It is stated that 10-12 hours sleep is needed but I think mine get about 7 hours and they are doing ok. I think they catch up on rest while I am at work.Covering depends on the bird and your own preferances. I cover my birds as I feel it gives them a signal to settle for the night as well as shelter from any draughts in the winter. Hope this helps.
15. It is a good style of cage.I am sure Shaka Zulu will love it.
16. That sounds like very good news Tom.Lulu is coming round to you.Keep up the good work.Keep offering healthy food, let her see you eating some, and when you notice her taking an interest offer her some.
17. I hope lillys illness or allergy clears up.Am I right in saying pugs are very prone to breathing and skin problems? If so it could be inherited and not related to Anna Grey.
18. Is he trying to have a bath in his water dish? If so make sure you mist him often.Greys are messy and we just accept that as part of their charm.
19. Hello Mark. This sounds like a very interesting, long term challenge.Dont expect things to change fast.A lot will depend on Bogies past and how much interaction with people he has had.I am sure as you read through the many threads hear you will be aware how important out of cage time and companionship is to a grey.Through joining us hear you have made a very important start in the rehabilitation of your grey. Ask any questions you have and we will do our best to help.
20. I use Harrisons. As Judy said the 5lb bag is better. It lasts me just under 2 months. I keep it seeled in the fridge. With 2 greys this would last you about a month.Oh and the high potency coarse are recomended for greys.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/04/23 13:30

23. Oh Sameera I am so sorry. You must be devistated. You have been through so much with Zahzu in her short life. She could not have had a better owner. I have always followed her story and hoped she was over her problems. I have probabley missed some of your posts as I am going through some hard times myself but I am so upset for you. Please know that we are all feeling for you and wish you well for the future. Dont loose touch, you have a bucket full of experiances that may help other owners and who knows that may just help you come to terms with what happened. Good luck and God bless. Sheila
24. Hi and welcome. I am sure you will get lots of ideas and learn more about greys on this forum.I look forward to hearing more from you and Koko.
