I did it

As you know a lot of birds are totally different when in a strange environment away from the cage. I would keep taking him to the bathroom and practice step up while there. It should be easy by the sounds of things.Once it is consistant try it from his cage.Try luring him on to your hand with a treat if he is reluctant. You have come so far with him already, I am sure its just a matter of time.
2. Welcome Adam. I hope you have fun choosing your new companion. This is a great place to come for information and has a great bunch of members. All are very friendly and so willing to help.Keep us up to date on your new baby.
3. I just think Tigger got over excited by his previous owners visit. His last owner must be very relieved that he has such a good home.
4. God Bless you Yvette. We wish you and your family best wishes and hope you soon feel up to joining us again.
5. Ralph, spencer is gorgious. The wait can seem an eternity but it will be worth it.
6. Yes your grey is growing up.He is bonded to you. Take care never to re enforse his nipping by talking or picking him up. Any attention is seen as a reward to parrots, even shouting at him and putting in his cage. Just ignore it completely, and reward any good behaviour with lots of praise and attention.Make sure he steps up on command.Be happy that he likes his tempory care giver as it means if you need to, he can be left without worry .

Age

As soon as the eye colour changes it is not possible to determin the age. Charlie is ,if I was given the right information, coming up to 6 years old. His eyes are a very light straw colour, more grey than anything.

Baby Ash Home

So glad Ash is home with you.Great photo.Charlie just gets on his scales when I say "lets see if your a fat man" He has never objected.Try setting him on the scales with a treat in your hand to keep him occupied for a few seconds. Dont forget to give the treat as a reward for getting weighed.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/11/13 21:11

question??

It is possible. I say "on" to Charlie and Cracker.Try and see. If it works slowley replace that comand with your own. Say upup followed by your own command as he steps up.Then in time leave out upup.
10. Charlie has different voices. He can talk very soft and then sometimes really harsh and deep.I dont think it is anything to worry about. If he shows any change in behaviour or not eating check it out but I am sure all is fine.
11. Welcome. I am sure you will love it hear.
12. Hi I wish you luck and best wishes with Riamfada.
13. Thanks for the update Ben. I am so angry for you.Your land lord and the owner should have sorted something out by now.Keep on at them and do not give up.Has your vet given any written details of his findings? Also I do not know if Bell was insured but if so the insurance company may take up some legal action.Good luck. I am rooting for you. As Pat pointed out this could also have proved dangerous to people and you should have been informed.Hope to hear good news from you soon, keep nagging at the landlord and owner daily.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/11/12 13:30

15. They are so cute Jen. I bet you have your work cut out.
16. Three word are top of the parrot dictionary, they are. Patience, patiance and patiance.Just let George be himself for a bit. Keep tempting him but dont push the issue . He will join in when he is ready. If you are feeding him treats by hand this is a great way to earn his trust.Just mist him a couple of times a week if he is not too keen on the idea.
17. Welcome ,hope you learn and enjoy.

Found A Way!

I am so glad things worked out for you and smokey. You seem a lot happier and settled. Good luck in the job. Best wishes Sheila
19. Yes, thanks Caroline. I am sure many members will find this very useful.Charlie falls in to the catagory of being totally freeked out by new toys and it usually takes 2-3 weeks to introduce most toys to him. Ironically its the toys I think he will be fine with that take the longest.
20. Welcome Kim.I am glad you joined us. Its fun hear and you can learn a lot.Good luck in you quest for a grey.
21. Fantastic idea. I will check it out next time im in the pet shop.
22. I love it Dave. Every word is true. It all applies to me.
23. I had my tiel clipped for his own safety,he was flying to my grey.It could also be a bit distressing for her if you are having so much trouble returning her to her cage.No need to feel bad, just ensure a vet clips her wings and does not clip to much. Greys are heavy and do not need a lot removed. My vet clips up the feather shaft so the length of the wing is maintained and this way prevents any re growth problems

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/11/10 22:05
24. Charlie just loves his jukebox toy.It is an acrylic triangle that has a disk inside that plays a tune when he presses a button on the toy. You can get different tunes to put in . He also loves to chew up an old paperback book .
25. Adaya is coming on great. you are doing a good job.
