  5. Scar, do you mean limit the hours she is out of her cage? She does get a lot of out time, but I'm not sure if giving her less would make her more keen to go back in. Will give it some thought tho, thanks for the suggestion. And yesterdays odd behaviour has continued today - everytime she tried to pinch my lunch, I made I was going to put her in her cage, and every time she just went!!!!
  6. This was kind of a natural progression for Alfie - she first started hanging upside down off my finger ages ago, when she didn't want to step off. Then she started doing it out of pure nonsense and David started to add the bang sound - it didn't take her long to catch on! I've been trying to get her to roll over for ages, and while she will let me roll her over on a cushion or what have you, she won't do it herself - yet! Jess, Yoshi will be hanging off your hand before you know it! Jill - Harvey is about to burst into his own - tell Michael he'll be doing tricks left and right!! Thanks for looking! xx

What a clever little lad! I would love to know how went about training him? I'm having such trouble training ALf - she has an attention span of a millisecond! Video please! x
  8. Hay Folks! This is Alfies latest escapade! She'll do almost anything for David just now, and I swear, when his back is turned, she sticks her little tongue out at me! Daddies girl that she is!! Hope you and yours are all well! xx
  9. luvparrots wrote: They sure do Janet - never a dull moment! Things are on an even keel at the moment tho, She, long may it continue!! x
  10. Hehe! You wouldn't believe it, but she manages to get a feather on her head every single night!! Thanks for looking folks. x
  11. Shoot! I thought it was one of them spooky coincedences!

  13. Lol Jill, don't worry about it! JillyBeanz wrote: Thats because I was waiting for the nip, which usually follows malarky like this!! Glad to say it didn't come! The nips seem to have subsided for the minute! x
  14. Hi Folks! Just another wee pic I couldn't resist sharing. This girl is soooo into her looks!! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alf xx
  15. Oh Dan! That is soooo weird!! I just posted a link to this thread this morning, on another thread started by Jules1962 asking if greys undestand what they are saying! I thought this thread would answer that question for her!!
  16. They definitely learn to understand what word goes where - Alfie puts stuff into context all the time! Yesterday, it was her that started barking first when someone came to the door! She will tell herself to have a whoopsie, have one, than congratulate herself with "good girl"! There are members on here who actually have conversations with their birds! Have a look at this thread and read it from the beginning - it's very interesting. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/limitstart/120/the-grey-lounge/136068-conversations-with-your-grey.html Hope this helps. x
  17. Just a wee update on the latest crisis....! It seems to have passed - surprise surprise! Although she is still going through a "No, I'm not going into my cage" phase, she is going through it with David too, and is occasionally giving him the runaround just as she gave me last week! But it is happening less, and we've been able to avoid the making an issue out of it! She just knows when we are wanting to go out and starts playing up as soon as she thinks she's going into her cage. Something happened today tho that's baffled us. She's been in a particularly mischievious mood and has been hell bent on popping the keys off the laptop. Instead of just telling her "off", (which she knows fine well, but obviously wasn't going to listen to today!) I just got her to step up, with the intention of taking her to her cage, so she would think, for misbehaving, she was getting a time out! Well, lately to put her in her cage, we have had to secure her, so she couldn't just fly off, but for this excercise, I didn't bother, as I didn't intend to put her in, just make her think it. Well, wouldn't you know it, but I took her to her cage unsecured and she just went on in there!! I didn't shut her in as I was just trying to get it across to her that naughty = cage, so needless to say she beat me back to the couch every time! I repeated this manoeuvre a dozen times and each time, got her all the way into her cage!! It didn't stop her from chasing the laptop tho - in the end I just put it away! But we were left gobsmacked at her willingness to go into her cage when she's been so deadset against it! I've been trying to figure it out and can only think of one explanation - African Greys are psychic!! xx<br><br>Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2009/10/31 02:25
  18. Some of you may recall I had similar problems with Alfie earlier this year. Judy, what you are describing with Josie sounds just like what happened with Alf. I think she started chewing when some feathers got damaged and just forgot to stop. She removed all of her tail, and all but the two outer primaries on her left wing. In May, she underwent a number of tests under a general anesthetic, which mostly showed no problems - very minor irregularities with the spleen and liver, but nothing that concerned the vet(bloods revealed a slight calcium deficiency) - and while under, they removed all of the chewed feathers. I can't remember how many exactly, dozens tho. Her tail was the easiest to moniter because we could see it plainly, and it grew in evenly. She regained her flight around 6 weeks after the op, and became confident with it very quickly. She was on Metacam for a month aswell to make the regrowth less uncomfortable. Thankfully, she has not chewed since. As has been pointed out, every case is different, but removing her damaged feathers certainly worked for us. Jan, I hope you get Tobie sorted, I love him to bits! xx
  19. Cheers! Alas, I thought I was having a night in with my F.A.R.T friends, but I've been invited out for a meal, so......see ya! I mean Just kidding - catch yawl later! xx
  20. It is Dee, although it's not always as idyllic as you paint it - usually it's' me trying to sup my tea with one hand, while Alfie is on the other doing "the lean"! Wouldn't swap it for anything! It's just her and me and it's the only time I have her undevided attention at the minute, her being a Daddy's girl and all! x
  21. Phooey! I was really impressed there for a minute!!
  22. Lol Robin - I've tried that with Alfie - she won't have any of it! I only have one cup a day anyway,, so it's not an issue any other time, and she's not interested in David's coffe! x
  23. oooh I love Emma to bits! I would love to get Alfie an orb like the one Emma is sitting on, do you mind me asking where you got it? If you say you made it yourself, I'm sunk!! Thanks for sharing. x
