1. How exciting! Keep up posted with how it goes.
2. Wow that's a great toy.
3. Ahh Caroline my heart breaks for you. I know how hard it must be and I admire you for doing what is best for Jasper. I can imagine the scenario you have. It is kind of like if you put 3 kids together then 2 of them will buddy up and pick on the other one. Good luck with rehoming Jasper.
4. Whisper takes a while to get used to new toys too. She likes smaller toys but large ones freak her out. I usually buy large toys then break them down and make smaller ones for her. I got her a foraging box the other day and hung it in the cage. She acted fearful but not too bad since it is just brown cardboard not too scary. She was still cautious until she watched me put an almond in it then I could not hold her back.
5. That is so funny. She must have been daydreaming.
6. When Whisper does this when I am scratching her I stop scratching. Sometimes she asks for the scratch but it seems I am doing it all wrong hence the little correction she gives me with her beak. Sometimes I think it just does not feel good to them whether because of pen feathers or not doing it quiet right but whenever she does this I just stop and refuse no matter how much she asks. I won't encourage biting. Like you said it is light at first and then gets harder. Don't get me wrong.. I play with whisper and she beaks me playfully and to giver me direction but as soon as the bite gets a little to hard then the game is over. The thing is she knows when she beaks me too hard when we are playing.. she will say OOPS!
7. Thanks for sharing Sachi with us. she is beautiful. I think that this will someday (way in the future) going to be my #3 bird. With a Grey and an Amazon the 3rd will definitely have to be a quiet bird.
8. I know this is an old thread but will answer the question posted by Natalie because I am concerned about the baby. How are you feeding the baby. 6 weeks old is toooooo young to be weaned and should still be getting formula. He will probably die very quickly unless he is being fed properly. Unless you are an experienced hand feeder you need to take the baby right back to the breeder and tell them to finish weaning it. We had this situation just last week where the poster had a too young bird and did not understand why it was not eating and drinking. It DIED.
9. It is really great that he is enjoying the shower. It will make him feel so much better.
10. I would really doubt he is swallowing it. Chewing wood is natural to them as they do it in the wild. They know better than to swallow it. I gave you karma for being such a caring parront.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/07/19 19:11
11. I never thought I would see this happen. Today I took Whisper in the shower with me just like I have hundreds of times before.. She OPENED her wings and feathers up and actually enjoyed the bath! She has always sat there on her shower perch all closed up and endured any water I would get on her. Today she actually walked into the water spray and kept her feathers open the whole time. She kept flapping her wings and seemed to be having a great time. I was dumbstruck. You see guys there is hope for all the bath hating greys after all. She got super wet all over. Every little feather right down to the skin. It made me so happy. Lets hope this is not a one time thing and she will continue.
12. They are gorgeous. I too want to know how you tell them apart. Careful you don't send home the well trained one.
13. My husband and I separated shortly after Whisper started talking. She only has one phrase that she still says in his voice. It always startles me when I hear it. Everything else is in my voice because I am the only one who talks to her. Congrats that your bird has started talking. Soon you won't be able to shut him up. You won't be able to watch t.v. at a normal volume anymore. You will soon have to turn it up loud enough to hear it over the bird.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/07/18 03:34
14. Emma is far from typical. I think she is wonderfully original.

17. You did a great job manually focusing. Koko is a beauty.

23. The baby will come home approx Aug 20th.
