1. I am so glad to hear that Bonkers is calming down. Sounds like you are taking some good steps to help him. You are such a good parront. Karma to you!
2. I agree the playstand and Jeepers look terrific. I can relate to you about the other bird. I swear it ought to be against the law for stupid people to have birds. I am all for legislation that would require people to have to take a class in parrot care and watch movies showing mistreated birds before people could get a license to own a bird.
3. Whisper gives me kisses and asks for scratches. She is apparently very concerned about me today too because she has asked me 20 times " are you okay?" And then "whats the matter?" So she must love me!
4. Good luck BaxtersMom. Hang in there. It won't last forever and soon you will have your baby back. It must just be the season for it as the U2 I rescued is displaying sexual behaviour also. Fortunately no bites though.

First word?

I am so happy for you. Soon you won't be able to shut her up.
6. Thanks for sharing these great pics. I am waiting for the breeder to produce a female DYH for me. So far they have all been males. We will know in a few days about a baby he has now. How old is Perdy? Male or Female? I would love to hear more about your DYH.
7. Wow that is scary. Sounds like he is a male and hormonal. Sounds like he has chose the Amazon as his mate and is defending her.One thing you can try to do to slow down the hormones is to shorten his daylight time. Hormones in birds are triggered by the longer days. Try covering his cage earlier in the evening and thereby trick his hormones into thinking the days are shorter. This is why I have been waiting for the breeder to produce a female DYH for me. I do not want a male. I know you don't want to trim the wings but it would do more than just limit his movement. It would probably help with the attitude as he would become dependent on humans and not be so cocky. They will grow back. I would also keep him away from the other birds or at least limit his contact with the amazon. Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/06/22 03:09

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/06/22 03:13
8. Dave you are one funny guy. Your bedroom if very nice. Have you considered some nice drapes to brighten it up a little?

10. I got Whisper a HUGE playstand. I could never get her to go on it even after months of being in the same room. I got her a smaller manzanita one and it only took a month of being in the same room with it before she would go on it. The Cockatoo now has the huge one and loves it. Even though Whisper would go on the manzita tree stand she never really seemed comfortable with it. So I got another cage just like the one she sleeps in and is in another room and use it in the living room as her daytime playstand. She loves it. I put a lot of toys on the outside of this one and she climbs all over it and plays.
11. Greyt story! It is true that the Grey is not as colorful as some of the other parrot species but I think they are very elegant and regal looking.
12. I have told you guys before that I live alone and talk to my birds in a conversational way. Sometimes in the evening I will be sitting on the couch with Whisper on my shoulder watching t.v. Well if I get up to go to the bathroom I guess I have been telling her I gotta go pee. I wasn't even thinking about it. Well, guess what her newest phrase is? I GOTTA GO PEE. You have to watch everything you say in front of these birds.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/06/21 19:13
13. I saw an improvement when I moved Whisper's perch. Her tail used to look awful. She has molted and has all new ones except for two of them. Wouldn't you know that the worst looking one she still has not molted. They damage them playing and climbing around on the cage. When the feathers get old and brittle it is easier to damage them.
14. That is terrific. You must be so proud! How old is she now?
15. I am sooo happy things are going well for Sully. What a wonderful thing you have done to rescue him and give him a better life.
16. Have you ever noticed that a bird can go all morning without throwing any food out on the floor but as soon as you are finished running the sweeper and have put it away that suddenly it becomes food throwing time?
17. My birds are noisier when the tv is on or I am on the phone. The noisier the atmosphere a bird is raised in the noisier they are. They compete to be louder. I cannot watch tv in the evenings or the Cockatoo I rescued makes it impossible to be in the same room. Try creating a quieter atmosphere and see if that helps. Whisper went through a period after she learned this outdoor bird call that was really ear piercing and annoying. I just ignored it or left the room when she was doing it and now she seems to have forgotten it.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/06/20 19:35
18. Be sure to let us know what the vet says.
19. I have seen this a couple of times in Whisper's morning poo. Twice I think and weeks apart. I put it down to she ate a lot of red or orange pellets the night before. She eats mostly Harrisons but I mix in some kaytee in the evening for variety. Your bird may have just decided recently that the red or orange are the favorite. You could try removing all the orange and red pellets from her mix for a day or two and see what happens. Since the vet appt is not til monday.. you might save yourself a few hundred dollars.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/06/20 17:55
20. Char

help please

A Grey's mess is NOTHING compared to a Cockatoo.
21. Another one: A guy goes into a pet store and buys a parrot. The pet store owner tells him the parrot can talk. The guy takes the parrot home but after a couple of days the parrot has still not spoken. He goes back to the pet store and complains they sold him a parrot but it does not talk. The pet store owner tell him to buy this little bell and put it in the cage. The parrot will play with the bell, he will be happy and he will talk. So the man does but after a couple of days the parrot still does not talk so back to the pet store he goes again. The pet store owner tells him to buy this little mirror and put it in the cage. The parrot will see itself, think it is another bird and will talk. So the guy buys the mirror and puts it in the cage but the parrot still does not talk. The next day the parrot falls to the bottom of the cage nearly dead with it's little feet sticking straight up in the air and with it's dying breath it finally talks! It says..... "Don't they sell any bird seed down at that pet store?"
22. years ago I won $100 with this joke on the local radio station's Joke of the Day: Do you know what a Kentucky fortune cookie is? It's a corn dog with a food stamp in it.
23. I just found this thread the other day and have had a blast reading all the jokes. Thanks for the laughs. Here is one from me: Why don't men get mad cow disease? Because they are PIGS!
24. I think 10 toys is too much. You gotta keep in mind that they are SELLING toys. My bird is overwhelmed with large toys and is frightened of them. I only have a few at a time and they are smaller in size. As you get to know your Grey better you will learn what type of toy she likes. Also put good natural perches in now and get rid of the ones that usually come with the cages. It is harder sometimes to change them later. Whisper still has her original ones because if I change them she won't go in the cage.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/06/19 03:29
