  1. I wondered the same thing about Tobie needing a friend. I came to the same conclusion for the same reasons as tigerlilly and some others have stated. I think it would mean less time for Tobie and there is no guarantee that he would even like having the other bird around.
  2. So sad. It has more to do with the mind set of the people who purchase the animals. Not so much with a real reason for giving them up.
  3. Dan, I loved this video. No talking or amazing antics, just two very contented and happy birds getting their day started. What a peaceful place.
  4. Yes but why the superior skill of mimicry and speech in the african grey? Do they have a special need for this in the wild?
  5. If you're feeling the cold then I'll be your bird is too. I'd put the heat on. You do have heat don't you? I've never lived in a climate like that. If I feel chilly in the house I wait til late to bathe the bird, when the heats been turned up.
  6. Congratulations!! Thats quite a thrill. Looking forward to Tobie's first flight if it ever happens.
  7. Tobie has always sounded like a man. Thats kind of cute too, but I've always enjoyed hearing those greys that sound female. My sympathy, but I'll bet you'll get used to it really fast, and maybe later after the new wears off she'll talk in both of your voices. Of course you could always send your husband packing again. Ha! Just kidding.
  8. Congratulations on 20000 posts. Thanks for all your advice and comments.
  9. I just want to say that I've read several threads that seem to imply that we as parrot owners should feel a degree of guilt because our bird can't have all the advantages of an existance in a flock of wild birds. I'm not sure that the wild birds wouldn't feel a degree of envy for the lifestyle that we give our "captive" greys.
  10. Yes! I too loved Pepperburgs book "Alex and Me". Wonderful read.
  11. Does your mynah talk? I've been enjoying the videos and your posts.
  12. Thanks Pearlyn for pulling this heated debate up. I hadn't read it before. I guess we are selfish to want to bring any animal into our home, but then we turn around and go to every kind of inconvenience and expense to make sure they are happy. Clipped or not clipped we love them. Their lives, while different than a wild parrot would have, are not entirely unpleasent.
  13. Love your bird room. Judygram - where do you get the bead curtains? I'm thinking of the future, of course since Tobie doesn't fly. I haven't seen them around town or in any catalogs. Jan
  14. Glad no one was hurt and how wonderful that they can play like that and that they get along that well. I'd love to see a video of them flying like that.
  15. I can't wait until Tobie can fly because he has injured himself several times crashing - so I'm underlining Lovethatgreys statement.
  16. Tobie blushes when he tells a joke but no one laughs.
  17. Nice poem. They do inspire us don't they.
  18. I heard giveme a kiss too. Tobie bites the fabric on my shirt and sais "stop it" .
  19. Couldn't get Tobie interested for some reason. I left them in the window sill where he plays and he never would touch them.
  20. I was worried that Tobie wouldn't talk when he was 8 months old and had only learned one phrase. ("what's- up") He really didn't expand his vocabulary until he was over a year old. Now at two he seems to learn a new word or phrase every week or two. Be very patient and never stop talking to him and other family members.
  21. Tobie has brought alot of love into my home as well. I never expected to love him so much when I brought him home. I find myself smiling on the way home from work in anticipation of sharing the evening with Tobie.
  22. I couldn't tell if Tobie was trying to change the subject or not. He just kept chattering through the video.
  23. I've also never seen Tobie with his head under his wing as some of you have described. He just drops his chin to his chest and sleeps that way. I've seen that when I get up in the middle of the night for some reason. Maybe he sleeps if I'm at work, but when I'm home - nope - he doesn't sleep.
  24. Oh yes! Sounds very familiar. I've been thinking about making a video of Tobie doing something similar. It's so funny.
