We hire someone to come to do the weed eating and lawn mowing at our house. I was home the other day when they came and watched Tobie freak out. He was so nervous he jumped off the cage and ran all over the house looking for me or a place to hide. He finally settled on my shoulder but was trembling and didn't stop until they turned off their machines. I didn't have any idea he was reacting like this. Anyone else have this problem?
I do so love Emma! Tobie is the same way. His voice always is an exclamation. He makes every thing so funny. If I fuss at him and tell him to stop something, he comes right back with "Quit that, Quit that!!!" Then he usually does it again to see if he can get the same reaction from me.
Tobie wore a flight suit all last summer and I've got to say that the "poop pouch" created a freedom that we haven't had with the aviator harness. I could visit my mother and mother-in-law and take Tobie on hikes without the embarrasement of him pooping on me or in someones house. The problem was that he chewed off the straps repeatedly. Not that he escaped the harness, but he became so efficient at removing the straps that I was constantly replacing them. I think the straps on the flight suit are more uncomfortable than the straps on the aviator harness. I keep hoping the aviator harness will come up with a "poop pouch that can fit the harness. Shouldn't be so hard to come up with.
You know those old shirts that you want to use as rags now (maybe because the bird put a hole in it). Well give them to your bird and let them take the buttons off and put a few more holes in them. Then the buttons don't get it the way with it's use as a rag and when you wash the rag there will be no chance of hanging it back in the closet as a shirt again because it will look like a rag.
Since Tobie can't fly yet, I have no idea. I just wanted to comment on the adoreable pictures of your bird sleeping. It just blows my mind to see these birds lying down sleeping. Tobie has never done that. Adoreable!!
I see Emma's dark tail feathers and am reminded of how young she is. So smart for such a young grey. As far as this video goes. Whoops - careful Emma! How many year old kids can stand on one foot like that. Amazing how coordinated they are.
Sounds like people who are looking for something to complain about. I'm sorry for them. They are probebly very unhappy people in general.
I had another thought. Maybe if you invited them over to meet your birds and talked about them they would decide they were ok.
Just kidding - I doubt that would work.

Post edited by: Janfromboone, at: 2009/08/11 06:56
I'm so jealous. Tobie has one wing fully feathered now but the other wing is completely devoid of flight feathers. Well there is one lonely feather that I am sure is doomed. One wing on and one wing off is worse than two wings off or two wings clipped. He crashes brutally.
It is a roll of plain adding machine paper. It has been the best toy I ever bought. You can get various gadgets to hang it from. Tobie used to shred up a roll in about two weeks. Now he keeps a roll for a long time. I learned to stuff paper between the post and the inside of the roll to keep him from unrolling the whole roll in a day. He has had that toy for two years and still goes through period when he spends a day shredding paper.
