  1. I'm so very sorry to hear about Noodles. I hope that the next test provides a better outcome. My heart and thoughts are with you in this tough time.
  2. Hello Hoodoowoman, we're glad you've joined us. Can't wait to hear some stories about Oliver and how you came to be together.
  3. Congratulations! I bet you are so excited about the new baby on the way...
  4. Hello Heather, welcome here! It is great you are looking into this before jumping in, owning a parrot of any kind is a big commitment but believe me, it is so worth it! I'm glad you decided to quit lurking and join in the fun.
  5. Hello Cathie, welcome to you and Nyah.

    New Moderators!

Congratulations to you all, I know that you'll do your best to keep this the greatest grey forum on the web. Now get back to work.....

    It's A Girl!

Just wanted to say congratulations, I love the name Gracie for a grey.
  8. All the entries were great, nice work everyone! Congratulations to Digitalfeather and Cflanny.
  9. Welcome to the forum Salsmum- I hope all goes well with your introduction and the bird and you get along.
  10. Love the name!!! Annabella Strella, sounds so glamourous, I'm sure she loves it too every time you say it. I didn't even notice the shade until you pointed it out but now I'm glad you did. That's a great idea- I always have to put Lyric in his cage when I'm cooking because there's no way to keep him out of the kitchen and it's just too dangerous. And Heather, even your bad photos are great in my book anyday- you are too modest and such a perfectionist. I wish I could capture pictures of Lyric flying like that too but my Nikon coolpix just isn't equipped for stuff like that... Keep the cool pictures coming, we love seeing Annabella in her element.
  11. I know lots of people cover their birds at night, but I don't cover mine. I like them to be able to see what is going on around them so they don't get freaked out by something. I think if you cover him at bedtime he'll adjust to the routine and figure out that means it is time to sleep. If the tv is loud it will probably disturb his sleep whether he is covered or not though. Just my opinion- do what works best for you!

    Rope Hoop

I don't have a rope hoop but my TAG just loves his boing. If you don't have one of those they are definitely another good investment for your bird. I guess Christmas time will be here soon so maybe I'll look into rope hoops too....
  13. Try taking things a little slower, greys are overly cautious in general and take awhile to adjust to changes. As far as the bathing goes, the others have given good advice. I use a spray bottle for mine and sometimes they like it, sometimes they don't, but they get wet non-the-less. For getting him to try new foods, let him watch you eating something that you want him to try. Eventually curiosity might get the better of him and he'll decide he'd better see what you are eating and try it for himself. Let him have some directly from your hands or off your plate. My TAG loves to eat from my dish, he thinks it's always better than anything I put in his dish. Best of luck to you.

    FIRE

Debbie- how terrible! I'm so sorry to hear about your bad luck, however it was so great that you were home when it happened and able to contain the fire before it cost you the lives of any of your flock or family. At least if it had to happen it did this way and now can be a reminder to us all to prepare for an emergency.
  15. Congratulations Carolyn- I hope you enjoy being a moderator!
  16. He is a gorgeous baby, looks very healthy and happy. I'm glad he is settling in well with you and family.
  17. Hi Deef, welcome to the forum. Taking your bird to work with you is a great way to help socialize him as long as you can keep him safe. Watchout for using any strong disinfectants or cleaning solutions around him though as birds are very sensitive to such things.

    Noise!!!

I guess I'm lucky- so far the only comments my neighbors make is that they like hearing my birds for one reason or another. I like the newspaper idea though Dave- you are clever and your sense of humor keeps us all entertained out here in grey world...
  19. What a great story and I can tell you have a BIG heart and lots of love for these feathered friends of yours. Sammie is just a beauty, and I'm so happy she has found a good forever home. Thanks for sharing those photos with us too, the black palm is a very cool looking bird, but I'd be scared by that big beak I must admit. I'm sending karma your way for adopting a bird that really needed a good home.

    Meet Jack

He is pretty and those are really great photos of him. I hope he gets along alright with your new grey!
  21. How exciting! I think you should let Vincent out right away. He is probably used to being out of his cage for cuddling every day and will be missing his old home and old people- give him some love and let him know that things at his new home may be different but he'll be getting love and attention none-the-less.
  22. They should have done a better job clipping because leaving them ragged may cause Otis to want to chew on them. I would however, follow Dave's advice and leave them alone. You want him to be able to control his falls if he does fall off of something. Monitor them and if he does appear to be chewing on them you might consider taking him to someone else to get them smoothed out a little but I won't cut them shorter if you can help it.
  23. I think you made a wise decision as well. You really can't be too careful these days and have no guarantee that after you sent her the money you would ever see the bird. Getting one locally to you that you can see in person and have in hand once you've exchanged the money will be much better, plus the bird won't have to go through the stress of being shipped by air. Best of luck to you and I know that somewhere out there is another grey just waiting to find you...
  24. Heather, I really kind of liked Harrison's name and the whole story behind it, but if you really want to change it, by all means, it's your baby- change her name! I like Sophie, Gabriella, or Annabella. Having her first name rhyme with her last won't be that bad, greys like words that rhyme. Why don't you ask the sweet girlie and see if she has an opinion? Well, let us know what you decide so we know what to call her!
  25. Hello Harvey, Clare and Gavin! What a handsome fella you are, I hope we get to see more pictures of you real soon.
