Hi Kimberly, welcome to the forum. It's really so great that you and your parents are going through the process of adopting a grey. It sounds like this rescue really knows what it is doing and all about making sure that the bird will be a good fit for the home it ends up in. I hope you do end up with this TAG but if not, you'll be ready for the next one that finds its way to you. Best of luck and keep us updated.

Hi Annie and welcome to the forum! I'm so happy you work with a rescue and do your part to help the animals you can. Charlie sounds like a lucky bird that he has become part of your flock. I feel so bad for the people that are forced to give up their pets, I couldn't imagine the pain of having to do this. They become such a big part of your life, it would be like giving up a child to me. I hope our country can get back on track and with an improvement to the economy and less jobs lost, less people should have to go through situations like this. It really breaks my heart to hear about it.

Lyric weighs right around 300g.

What a great story, I love your creativity birdmom, your newsclip really made me laugh. As far as cleaning goes at my house, I do a through cleaning once a week. I line his cage tray with newspaper which gets changed once a week. I take the empty tray, the apron around the cage and the grill at the bottom to the shower and spray them off with hot water, let it soak a little and then scrub anything left off with a scrub brush. The rest of the cage gets a quick clean with a damp paper towel. If I have to use a cleaner, I use a little dish soap and rinse it really well, or a little vinegar and water. Lyric's cage doesn't generally get too bad because he comes out so many times during the day- he usually holds his big morning poo until I get him out for breakfast and does this over the trash can. While I'm cleaning his cage, he plays on the playstand on top and tries to help by grabbing the paper towels I'm cleaning with and shred them to bits. Oh, and my dog tries to help too, he's always on standby in case something gets dropped on the floor!

Dr. Irene Pepperberg has a new book out about her work and relationship with Alex the grey. She recently did an interview on NPR and here is a link to the story in case anyone else is interested in checking it out: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=96897162&sc=emaf Since her work with Alex really led the way for the world to find out that these animals really can communicate with humans (which many bird owners already knew but the rest of the world wouldn't admit!) I find anything about her and Alex quite fascinating. Anyway, hope you all enjoy it too.

Hi everyone- I'm so glad it is Friday, I really need to try to catch up on some sleep. Working 8 hour days in addition to feeding baby birds, trying to keep my house from becoming the next natural disaster area, keeping up with Lyric and my two dogs...it can be a bit overwhelming at times. I do love it but I also could use a extra couple hours of sleep so I'm hoping for that tomorrow. I may have to fit it in as a nap though! It is cold here and getting colder by the minute. Supposed to be in the 30's tomorrow and then back to the 60's on Sunday. Typical weather in the midwest. I'm so not ready for wintertime, I really hate being cold. Anyway, hope everyone out there reading this is enjoying their weekend and getting a little time for themselves. Now I have to feed the grey babies before I can go to bed!

This is a very informative post. OlBenny, great info and it's wonderful that you took the time to share it with us all. You know you can always count on the members of this forum to help out when you need a little advice!

Deef- this is really great news. I'm glad Nismo is doing so well and starting to allow you to touch him. The environment of the barber shop, having different people coming and going all day long should prove to be entertaining for Nismo. Plus, he will keep your customers entertained so it's a win/win situation for all involved!

He is a handsome bird and looks quite content. Thanks for posting that!

Right now still about every three hours, 6 times a day. Over the weekend I will slowly move it to every 4 hours. It is really great watching them grow and I love spending time with them. Thanks for everyone's comments about them. I'm glad to be able to share with you all.

Not bad, I'd say that's really wonderful!! You have made such progress already. You have a big heart and I'm glad there are people like you in the world.
-
This is perfectly normal, he is just showing you that he really loves you and thinks you are very exciting! It's what a male would do to woo a female grey.
-
Very cute! Mika is going to have a fun time on Christmas morning.
-
Sallas, not only do they not put them away but sometimes they like to poop on them too and then laugh to see our faces! We are all anxiously awaiting the new room but good things that take time are worth waiting for...

Nice to meet you Glenn67, welcome to the forum. I like your grey's name, that is really cute and unique! I am sure you will enjoy it here and learn a lot too.
-
Here they are, 4 weeks old, all cute and fuzzy! Both are eating really well and growing bigger each day. They vocalize a lot and seem to really enjoy it when I hold them and talk to them.

What a lovely baby, and I really love the name too! I hope Ash is enjoying a new home.

Hi Alipally, we're glad you could join us. I'd like to hear more about how you started your rescue, if you'd like to share. That's a really wonderful thing to do, there are so many pets out there looking for their forever homes and a way out of a bad situation. I'm glad you are there to help them.

Welcome here, glad you could join us. I am so glad you shared your story about how you acquired your greys. They sound like very lucky birds to have become part of your flock. Have you tried feeding your greys red palm oil? I am currently trying that with my greys (I have one that is a plucker). I am hoping the extra oils from their native food will help. No results yet, but I just started it last week. Good luck to you with yours!

I'm excited about the playstands. I need some inspiration to get busy and make one myself!

This is so funny, funny but true too. I love your sense of humor. And yes, I also fit the description to a T.

What wonderful progress you have made with this bird already, I think we should start calling you the "bird whisperer" I didn't get to vote on the name but I like Cooper too and it really fits him, he is a cutie. Keep up the good work.

You have really come a long way with George already, it hasn't been that long and look what you can do with him now! You really are doing a great job and just keep at it and keep trying. I bet he just loves playing and having someone interact with him.
