1. Hello SPTN, welcome here. I hope you are successful in your search for a new grey to join your life. They are a very big commitment but so worth it. I am also in MO but just south of KC.
2. I'm excited for you to be giving this grey a second chance! If you have already handled him it is a great sign that you can make a connection. I don't think the whole male/female thing makes much difference. Some greys do prefer one over another but it just depends on the bird and the person. Do you have a name yet for the new addition?
3. Hi Afrique, welcome here! Your grey sounds like a little charmer. The little dance she is doing could just be because she is a little nervous or overly excited. They also do a little dance as a kind of courtship with those they love. She could be a little unsettled but try to keep her routine as normal as possible and give her lots of love and reassurance, she should settle down shortly. As far as the beak goes, give her lots of wooden toys to chew on and shred, this should help the beak. She probably gets a good reaction when she gives the raspberries, and she continues it because she knows you find it entertaining and she likes the reaction she is getting from you.
4. Hello Gerald, glad you could join us. Watching them explore their world at that age sure is fun. Cloudy is a pretty name for a grey!
5. Hello Buddy3707, welcome here. I think the best way to get them to try something new is to eat some in front of them. At first, don't let him have any at all, but let him know it sure is wonderful. Then, turn your back and let him sneak a bite from your plate. He'll think he's really having something special and will love it. They love drama and also love thinking they are getting away with something... like a mischievous kid.
6. Hi Lisa, glad you could join us. Billy sounds like a wonderful grey.
7. Hi Brian, welcome to the forum. Savage is a beautiful grey, thanks for sharing that pic with us.
8. Lyric is now over 2 years old and doesn't talk. He whistles great and makes up his own songs sometimes too. Sometimes he kind of whistles something with the same rhythm of words I say to him and I wonder if this is his way of talking or if he's still trying to work it all out. I don't know but either way I love him, talk or no talk. I do have to admit I get a little jealous when I hear others on here talking about all the great things their birds say! I have 10 birds and only one of them can talk- a Pacific Parrotlet that says "pretty bird" "Sparky" "Come 'ere" and laughs just like me. I really don't quite understand it because I do talk to my birds a lot, explain to them what I'm doing and talk sometimes with excitement and inflection in my voice.... oh well, maybe one day Lyric will surprise me...til then I'll just be happy with his songs and kisses.
9. I think the snow is so pretty, before it gets all tracked in and peed on- uugh, yellow snow! Those are good photos Caroline and they make me feel even colder. I'm sitting down to check the forum for a minute before I feed the littles and go to bed. I can't believe I get a minute to actually do want I want to. Lyric is in the other room supposedly sleeping, the boyfriend and one dog are in bed asleep and the puppy is watching me type but getting very sleepy eyes himself. Oh, now he's asleep too. I hear dreamland calling me too but obligations come first. Sheila, sometimes things do get a little wacky when we have lots of snow or ice- ice is the worst. Usually around here a lot of schools end up closing for the day- they don't want to take a chance of wrecks and kids getting too cold standing out waiting for the school bus. Kids love it because they end up getting a day to stay home and play in the snow. Well, I ended up making lasagna last night for dinner, so tonight was easy, leftovers. Sometimes I love leftovers. All my favorite tv shows were on tonight so I tried to watch them but kept getting distracted. All in all it was a nice evening- my best friend came over and she made a loaf of homemade french bread and a salad to go with my lasagna and we had a little feast. Great evening and now tomorrow is Friday so I'm happy about that too. Talk to you all later!
10. What a beautiful baby. I like your Lily too. The grey looks like it is fitting in well and enjoying itself. Thanks for sharing the pics!
11. It's cold here too and some snow passed us by to the north but so far we've escaped without it. Tonight is supposed to be 19 degrees so it's the coldest night so far this year. My heating bill will be outrageous. Just a few more minutes in my work day left then I can go home, let my dogs out, let Lyric out, get babies fed, the real work day begins! I swear I hardly get a minute to sit and relax by myself. Trying to decide what to cook for dinner- it's between chili and lasagne- some nice comfort food for a cold night. Stay warm everyone!
12. Hello Erin, welcome to our little flock. We're glad you could join us.
13. Hi Larry, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you are having health problems with your grey. It sounds like you are on the right track, taking him to an avian vet and having the problems taken care of. The feather chewing could be a result of the health problems or it possibly could be from the new puppy- greys are very sensitive to change and he could be getting less attention with the addition of the puppy to the house. Try getting his health problems resolved, spend a little more one on one time with him and also spray a couple times a week with 100% aloe vera juice to see if this helps. I hope Sammy is feeling better soon!

Post edited by: Lyric, at: 2008/12/03 23:19
14. Welcome here Tony, I hope everything works out and you are able to give Joey a new forever home. Greys do require a load of attention, time and effort but of course it is all worth it! I'm glad you took the time to ask our opinions about whether he could be happy with your hectic schedule. Me and my boyfriend also work full-time but my grey seems happy enough provided he gets plenty of time out and one-on-one attention when we are home. Best of luck with Joey and let us know how it turns out.
15. Thought you might enjoy seeing a typical day at my house- Lyric is playing on his favorite swing, Chilli is watching Lyric play and getting worked up about it- the babies are looking on in wonder at the whole scene...
16. 45 & 43 days old (6 weeks) They are getting quite playful and really starting to explore their world. Along with this they also scare easily and growl at unfamiliar things/sounds. They say hi back to Auntie Cindy and wonder when you are coming for a visit?
17. Hi Mark, glad you could join us here. I hope everything is going okay with your new addition! Congratulations on your new baby.
18. Gift certificates to wherever they purchase their bird food and toys, bird books- maybe a recipe book with ideas for things to cook for your bird, ideas or plans for building playstands and toys for birds, the book "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker. The new book "Alex and Me" by Dr Irene Pepperberg. These are just a few ideas I have, if you want to spend a lot, maybe a playstand for their bird!
19. Hello! Caroline, sounds like you are in the holiday mood, and everything is set and ready for it too. I'm not so organized myself... The long weekend went by too fast and although I enjoyed it I wish I had that time back to do over again. Today, back to work, and trying to get back in the swing of things after having time off. Hope everyone is doing well and getting through their Mondays!
20. He is a beautiful bird and it's really great to see a bird looking so healthy and happy at that age.
21. Oh, I'm so happy for you! After all this waiting and researching and preparing, now it's your turn to be a bird momma! Congratulations to you. I like the name Saber, but I'm sure more ideas will come to you as you get to know it's personality.
22. How exciting for you! I like the names you are considering already. I also like the name Sophie or Sophia for a girl, or Bella. There are so many good names out there and of course you can also be original and come up with something entirely new! When my breeding pair of greys had their first baby after 10 years of waiting for it, I was ecstatic! I couldn't believe how excited I was. It really is like Christmas. My opinion is to go for the 2 month old greys and try to visit and play with it a lot between now and when you can bring it home. That way it will already know you when you take it home. Keep us updated on your soon to be new arrival.
23. I'm glad you were able to get him back in, and NO your question wasn't stupid!! You should never feel that any question you have to ask is stupid, don't put yourself down like that! :silly:
24. Lyric would be the mischievous one with a gleam in his eye. He would be flying around, hanging upside down by one foot and whistling a little tune. He loves to dismantle appliances so he is the one on top of the fridge trying to pull the seals apart. Or just get out a tub of peanut butter and he'd be first in line for a bite.
25. Ok! Ok- I've been a little busy- sorry to keep you waiting! Here you go, 40 & 38 days old.
