I'm glad you've found a way to keep Tobie safe in your home. It doesn't look bad at all and Tobie is surely worth it even if it did look bad! I love the photo of you too together too- thanks for sharing that with us all.

You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved Shadow. It is really terrible that you had to go through this but there was a reason for it to happen. Perhaps your story will help someone else in the same situation or perhaps you can help another bird from going through the same fate in some way... I hope you can find peace and know that Shadow is now in peace and flying free forever.

Updates, updates!! We had some exciting developments over the last few days. On Saturday, Sadie Grey took her first flight. It was a successful short flight without any crashes- hurray Sadie! Today, Sterling followed suit. Also, Sadie said "pretty birdie" to me several times! I was almost beside myself with excitement! I'm hoping Lyric will hear her talking and get inspired. Both Sadie and Sterling vocalize alot but that was the first time I heard something recognizable from them. Both are now weaned from handfeeding and eating great on their own. They are eating pellets, fruits, veggies, brown rice... anything they can get their beaks on. They are definitely great eaters. Here are some updated pics of them, they have really grown and except for the dark eyes, now look like real greys...

What a lovely baby! Thanks for sharing!

Lyric doesn't talk for me or anyone. He does however whistle great little songs and will do this in front of me.

Hello Adhaincroi and welcome to the forum. I hope you like it here! It's sad that someone lost their baby grey but good luck for Roswell that you have her in your life now.

I'm trying to catch up on the posts I missed over the Christmas holiday! Didn't have the greatest Christmas ever, ended up spending two hours in the emergency room Christmas morning with my boyfriend after he got bit by my sister's dog. He ended up with 8 stitches in his lip- ouch...needless to say it will be a Christmas to forget, not remember. I hope everyone else was having a good time with family and friends. I'm hoping the New Year holiday will be better and less painful for all of us.

She is very pretty, Pat, I just wondered if she was getting any better? Did any of the suggestions help?

I'm always trying to learn more about birds, the internet is such a great tool for those of us that like to learn. I stumbled across the grey forum awhile back and after lurking for awhile and reading lots of posts decided I wanted to join in the fun and discussions. I love having a place to go to talk about my birds and others- listening to the stories others tell about the neat things their birds do really fascinates me. Not many people in my life really care about birds or find them as interesting as I do, here at least there are tons of other people that share my interest and passion. Plus, I hope I can help some new bird owners by passing on what I've learned over the years. If it can help one bird have a happier life, it makes me happy!

Your poor mom- I really feel for her. A bird bite is a painful experience and it sounds like Ash really gave it to her good. The fact that she is still willing to interact with him is so wonderful- she must be a very good woman! Ash was not ready for his playtime to end and thought he'd get the upper hand with your mother- I'm glad she got him in the cage in the end. I think leaving him in the cage is probably the best option for your mother's sake- unless he can just remain out under her watch until you return home. If you could train him to return with a command, that would be great. Also, sometimes bribery with a favorite treat will work wonders with a bird. Or, I sometimes will distract mine by letting him look at or touch something he really likes while I quickly whisk him back inside the cage. Distracting/bribes...whatever it takes. These are intelligent creatures and we humans have to stay a step ahead of them!! I hope your mom feels better fast!

I am very sorry to read your story about Rouge and how you lost her. It is very tragic and I'm sure it was hard to bear that kind of loss. You are in my thoughts and perhaps when the pain is bearable you will decide to share your life with another grey. I would also speak to the boarders about this and see if they will do anything- they should at least offer to help pay the vet bills...that's my opinion anyway.

How old was your grey when he/she began to talk
Lyric replied to papasilverdule's topic in The GREY Lounge
Hey Papasilverdule- welcome to the forum. Your Maggie sounds like a wonderful grey! I think it's pretty typical for a grey to begin speaking around 1 year old, but of course we have several brilliant exceptions on this forum. It's always wonderful to hear about a grey learning to speak very early on. I have a 2 year old TAG that does not talk, but he is the light of my life anyway. He whistles beautifully though and I can't help but think that maybe he may surprise me with a word. You never know about greys though- some never utter a word! -
I would make sure your bird is inside his cage when you bring the puppy around it for the first time. Let him watch you interact with it and see it for a bit before you let them out together. Since your bird has been around dogs it probably won't be anything too scary for it, but take things slow, always supervise them together and see how things go. Make sure your bird knows he is still # 1 to you too so he doesn't feel replaced by the puppy. Make sure he still gets special one- on- one time with you. He will probably enjoy watching the puppy and having a new member of your flock.

I would say if you are worried, ask if they have any previous clients you could talk to- ask them if everything went okay and they got a happy healthy bird. Ask what the breeder's policies are concerning if anything is wrong with the bird. Also if you aren't sure about it, don't let any money be exchanged until you visit in person and make sure you are satisfied. Good luck and I hope it turns out okay for you.

He really is pretty. He has a lot of red on his belly- I love that. Thanks for sharing the updated pics with us. Glad you are having fun with him!

What a beautiful bird! I'm excited for you as you start this new adventure together. Of course you understand your new baby uses his beak to learn about his world. This is why he is biting you- he is learning how to interact with people. Give a firm "no bite" and remove yourself from his beak. Try to have some foot toys or something suitable nearby to give him to distract him from the behavior. Try not to overreact or it may cause him to continue the behavior in order to see your reaction. Most of all, have fun as you both learn to get along together!

Welcome to the forum! There are people on here from all over the world- grey lovers are globally united on this site! Love to hear more about your flock and see some pics...
