Hello Animalspirit and welcome to the grey forum. I think you sound like a very interesting and enlightened person and I look forward to hearing more stories from you about your flock! What a great job to be an animal therapist, that would take lots of patience and I imagine a lot of work also dealing with animal owners and helping them to understand their animals better. Hope you like it here.

Hi Jennifer, welcome to you and your family. The only thing you can do to discourage loud squawking is to ignore the behavior. If you make a big deal about it they like the attention and will continue to scream. Sometimes it can be difficult to ignore, so try leaving the room and come back later when they are being quiet and then give praise and attention.

Hi Betsy, welcome here. I haven't checked out your video yet, but I will later. I'm sure Sparky must be quite the character. I have a dog named Sparky, great name!
-
Hi Nora, welcome here. I'm sorry things didn't work out with Timmy, but see this other little grey needed you and so everything turned out as it should! As far as names go, you'll have to think long and hard, that's a tough decision! Have any ideas yet? Keep us posted!

Hi Ina, welcome here. Can't wait to see that photo when you can get it to post, perhaps you need to resize it?

Hi Perch- welcome to the forum. Greys are very smart and potty training is very possible with them, my 2 year old TAG is potty trained to a certain degree. You are right about non-bird people just not understanding. You will find lots of like-minded people on this forum, I hope you enjoy it here.

Welcome to the forum Toxifera and Trixie. That's a great photo, thanks for sharing with us. -
Watching them grow is like watching a butterfly unfold his wings, it is truly one of life's miracles. Great photos, thanks for sharing!

Those are great photos, what a lovely girl Tuki is. It looks like she really enjoys her life with you.

Wow, that sounds really cool! I would love to see the chimp and other monkeys- I bet they'll be a hoot! Have fun Berna!

That's one of their favorite games, I think because it shows them we are subordinate to them, giving in to their every whim! Unfortunately for Lyric now, when he drops a toy or something exciting on the floor, more likely than not the puppy ends up with it, then Lyric doesn't get it back. Don't want him to get the puppy germs! He doesn't like this change in the game plans... poor poor Lyric!

Well said and stated everyone, I couldn't agree more. One of the things that makes a forum like this so great is the fact that there are all different kinds of people on here, from all over the world, sharing their opinions, experiences, and stories with us all. It's easy to get emotional about something you feel strongly about and everyone just needs to remember what we're here for, maybe take a deep breath and then, keep posting! I'm just so happy to have a place to go to share stories with others who have a common interest. There's always someone on here who can relate to another bird lover- it's refreshing. It's nice to know you are not alone in the world and that others share your passion.

Thanks for sharing that info with us. I've also wondered about it and now we all know... I've been on a few other forums and this is by far the best and most user friendly I've come across. I still check out some others from time to time but always find myself coming back to this one. Great job you all (admins & mods) are doing and great job to all the members that make this forum a good place to learn about greys and make friends. Thanks and lets all keep up the good work!

Those are great pics of Nike- you have some talent that's for sure. Of course Nike's natural beauty helps some too! Welcome back!

Our House Rules!!! (as stipulated by parrots)
Lyric replied to Luvparrots's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
That's great! I love your sense of humor, and what you've said is true... you might add the following too: If you can't handle having a bird eat off your plate, don't come eat at my house, they think anything on anyone's plate is for sharing... If you can't handle the sound of my birds, wear earplugs or don't come in. My birds are free to speak their minds whenever they want, and they will- loudly and frequently throughout the day! -
Sorry to hear of all the problems people are having with their credit cards. I had a small problem with one of mine after going to a bead fair (like a bird fair only the vendors all sell stuff relating to beads and jewelry) but the credit card company called me and asked me to verify the charge and since it was not one I had made I cancelled the card, they sent me a new one and had already denied the charge. It turned out fine for me, but I would feel very violated if someone charged a bunch on one of my cards. It pays to be vigilant and watch your statements closely- you never know when you could become a victim and I hope it doesn't happen to you all again!

Not a member of the lucky Grey owners club yet
Lyric replied to scottg's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Scott- it's really great you are doing your homework prior to getting a bird. I have two dogs and with patience and care it is possible for them to coexist. My older dog is great with the birds and pretty much just ignores them. He's had birds chase him, land on his back and bite him and he is such a gentle soul, he takes it all and doesn't harm them. I also have a 11 month old puppy (dachshund) and that's another story. He likes to run and jump after my grey whenever he is flying around- I have to supervise them closely and wouldn't trust him with a bird if my life depended on it! I think most greys get a bit of amusement out of other animals in the house- they KNOW they are superior to the dogs and like to tease them if possible. Keep us updated on your bird search! -
Hope you have some time to take some photos of Elmo, but in my experience birds are kind of hard to photograph because they tend to move a lot! Maybe your experience with photography will help.

Wow- how awesome for you!! I hope you get a chance to give this bird a new home. He looks beautiful and that is a really nice cage too- at a great price. Keeping my fingers crossed for you...let us know what happens!

That's great news Brittany about the new baby. I like the name Pepper for a grey, that's cute. I know waiting two months will be hard but it will give you time to research all you can and get everything ready. You should look for the book "for the love of greys" by Bobbi Brinker. I highly recommend it for anyone who is getting a grey. He/she is very sweet looking.

Great job, those are wonderful toys and you shouldn't have any trouble selling them. Sounds like you covered all the bases on making them bird-safe too!
-
Ahh, great name, and what great pics- you DO have your hands full now but I know you wouldn't have it any other way!! So do the older two gang up on the little one?
-
Yeah, take Bird with you. It is never too early to get them used to traveling and socializing with others. Do you have a small travel cage or carrier you can put it in? It will be a good adventure for you to start off on together. Best of luck to you-- and welcome to the forum too by the way!

Welcome Erin & Elmo! I'm glad you joined the forum. You have lots to learn but you'll find lots of great info on this site. Anytime you have a question, ask away, there's always someone on here that is willing to listen and help.
