Hello Lainee and welcome here. Roxie sure is a beauty. I hope you'll let us know if you have any questions...and tell us more about Roxie, too.

It was very interesting and I do believe there is something to be said for how the breeder's techniques affect the parrot later in life. What saddened me was reading the statistics about the birds involved in the study, particularly the ones that were disciplined roughly, kept in bad conditions or never allowed out of their cages. Thanks for posting this David, as always you are a great contributor to this forum.

How wonderful! I'm sure Cuzco Roswell was thrilled to be reunited with his family. Well done! Now how is Mr Tiki doing with his friend gone?
-
My thoughts are with you as you go through this sad time. Hazel's life may have been short but I know you did your very best to care for her and love her and she knew that she was loved. She is flying free forever now and in peace.

Hi Joe, welcome here. Your story was quite touching to me and I'm really happy that you decided to give Joey a chance at a better life. I think you'll find that Joey is a beautiful bird even if he plucks- beauty is much more than outward appearances. As far as changing his diet goes, take it slow. Greys are cautious about changes of any kind and he may take awhile before he even tries new foods. Just keep at it and keep offering healthy things and eventually his curiosity should bring him to try it. Keep us updated on your progress, you are part of our family now.

Looking for suggestions with new CAG baby
Lyric replied to Jaiden's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hey Jaiden, welcome here. Sounds like you are ready with the basics. You should discuss with the breeder what the baby will be weaned to, like what brand of pellets Jazzi will be used to so you can have some of that ready and waiting... also some of the bird's favorite treats. I love the name Jazzi, that's very cute. -
Hi Jamal, It's good you are researching this before you leap into it. I think if you are looking to make lots of money fast you should reconsider and look at a different way...breeding birds is expensive, time-consuming, and not a get rich quick scheme. You must have a happy healthy pair in the right conditions just to get them to breed. Consider the money you will need to invest to get started, the cost of the birds, adequate cage and nest box, ongoing costs of healthy fresh foods, vet visits, toys and stuff for them to shred. You must be able to care for the babies properly, provide a good stimulating environment with lots of love and careful nurturing. You will need to learn how to hand feed, how to wean, how to socialize the babies. If you were just doing it for the love of the birds it can be a rewarding experience, not necessarily money-wise but to see your babies go out into the world to make other families complete- to spread the joy and love of the grey. My advice is to do lots and lots of research before you begin- talk to some other breeders for helpful advice, and think twice if you are just in it for the money. And by the way, welcome to the forum!

Lyric replied to ranaz's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Rana, good to see you back here. It's exciting you have found a grey to become your new companion. It will take some time for him to settle in and feel at home with you. What is his name? -
Hi Helen! I'm sorry to hear about your recent loss of Max. It really is heartbreaking to lose one because they become another part of your family. Let us know any questions you may have regarding greys and keep us updated in your quest to get a baby.

So happy for you! Congratulations!

Welcome here Poochbabe, I'm glad you've joined the forum. It's so sad that you lost your entire flock due to that accident with the oven liner. I'm glad you shared your story with us and maybe it will save the life of some other birds whose owners read your post. I can tell you have lots of love to share with Ganesha, thank you for rescuing a bird that really needed you.

Hi Reap76, welcome here! Well congratulations on getting your first grey, I bet you really are excited! Yes, if you can let your bird chose you that really is best, if there is more than one to chose from. As far as personalities go it really just varies from one bird to the next, not so much a difference between sexes but every bird is an individual. Greys are very sensitive to the world and plucking is always something that people with greys must keep in mind. There are certain things that can cause the onset of plucking and we all just do the best we can! I hope you will look through all the rooms on this forum for lots of good advice concerning diets, cages, health, etc. If you have any questions just ask away. And please post a pic once you have some of your new baby!

Those are gorgeous photos- what a beauty Zzero is. I love the ones with his wings spread. Well done!

Since greys are prey animals it's instinctual for them to fear something they perceive as a threat. He is now unfortunately associating you and your husband as threats because of what happened. You'll just have to take things slowly and rebuild the trust. Try just sitting closely and reading to him, offer treats by hand and play with toys in front of him. Eventually he should decide to restart your relationship if for no other reason because he is bored and lonely. Good luck!

  Cute story, just goes to show the great love you have for your Maxi! I've found that greys just can't resist if they think it's something they can't/shouldn't have. Hopefully now that Maxi has had a few she'll decide they aren't half bad.

How many kids would yoiu swap your Grey for?
Lyric replied to Mistyparrot's topic in The GREY Lounge
I feel sorry for the innocent victims in this story, the two children and the poor bird. I hope all three manage to find good homes where they can get the love and respect for their lives that they so badly need. Sad story. -
Hey Aubri, that's a great signature, I've always wondered how people make those... I bet your feathered kids are thrilled having all your attention. Will you be going back to work in a month?
-
All our thoughts are with you as you help your mother through this. I hope you can stop by as much as possible because I'm sure the distraction will do you some good. Plus, we'll miss you here although we know your mother needs you more now. Best wishes to her for a speedy and full recovery.

Sorry to hear you've been down and in bed- I hope you get feeling better soon. It's hard to stay happy and motivated when you don't feel well. Your bird room is great and I can see the love you have for your fids- I hope you can get back on your feet fast.

Thanks! I'm so excited--- I finally won something after all this time. Congratulations to the other winners too- I thought all the photos were winners! B)

ADOPTING A OLDER GREY IS NOT THAT BAD!
Lyric replied to aglover09's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
What a wonderful update. I'm so happy for Boo Bird that he found a great home with you. Keep up the great work and keep us updated on your progress! -
Definitely try the sweet potato- finger feed it to her still warm. Also, the oatmeal is a good idea- my greys love it. A little peanut butter probably won't be bad because she needs some extra calories after her surgery. I bet once she feels better her appetite will return. Oh, you also may want to try some scrambled eggs- you can even wash them good and crumble in the shells. The extra calcium would probably do her good after the eggs she produced- it takes a lot of calcium out of their bodies when they produce an egg.
