Hello Steven and welcome to the Forum. I look forward to hearing more about Poppy. Caroline:)

My poor Charlie is getting worse with his biting. I am writing this after another nasty bite this evening. This all started after he lost his flights in the earthquake we had in the uk some months ago. Along with his flights went his loving self and his confidence. When he realised he couldnt fly and had to rely on me to carry him about he seemed to resent me for this, and hated the fact that he couldnt fly anymore. Anyway, the flights came back and brought with it a very clumsy flier. He tends not to fly as much now and likes to hang out on the top of his cage or one of the playstands. Whenever I get him to step up now in his cage or out I normally can tell by the body language first but will normally get a bite. He will then do the old sucker ploy and put his head down for a scratch then BITE. I suppose the question I am asking is has anyone else had a bird which has had a traumatic experience and lost confidence and trust in their owner? I just want my loving boy back, he can be at times but is so unpredictable. I have tried the "no bite", placing him back in his cage, the little monkey will just start chattering and singing away. He is an excellent eater and a very vocal bird and seems happy in every other way. He seems to like the company of my new grey Keeko and they get on very well together except for the odd squabble. He is a year old and I have had him since he was 12 weeks old. Any suggestions would be good. Caroline.

how can i teach my grey to get use to a play stand
casper replied to devilangel09's topic in Training
I had my stand next to Charlies cage for abou 2 months and he was the same, I always made sure to give him treats and put his favourite toys on there as well. It will take time but once your grey learns it can be a fun place to hang out im sure he will enjoy it. Caroline. -
Hello and welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing more about Chloe. Caroline.

Empress I feel for you! You should have put your foot down! Did he not really want a grey? Just to let you know, I also have two cats as well as two greys so when the kittens are older its still possible, I just dont have the cats in the room at the same time that the birds are out, I dont want to take the risk. I hope your dream will still come true but enjoy your babies, kittens are so adorable and a lot of fun. Try to get some pics if you can. Caroline

Are you offering your services Dan? {Feel-good-00020069}

What can I say Siobhan? Sunny Yorkshire for me while my husband lives it up in Ibiza! Counting the days now till they return.

What you need to do is set the stand up in the same room as your grey to get him used to it first, I did this and it took a while before he was curious and brave enough to go on there while I coaxed him with a favourite treat. If you manage to change your greys diet you could use the sunflower seeds just for treats maybe. Saying this my second grey went on there no problems but I think yours may be a bit nervous with not having much time out. Great news though you must be pleased about the stand. With all the advice to offer on here I think this will all work out if you put the time into this. We are here to help anytime and will offer support when you need it. It might be a long road but you will get there.Caroline:)

Sorry my mistake. I have a playstand in both rooms and they both like to chill out on there. Its neutral ground for them both as well and you will probably find this a better place to start training again away from his cage. Lets hope your dad texts back soon and it will be good news. Please make sure you do keep us updated with any progress you make or when you eventually move. Also let us know if your dad warms up to the idea of more time out of the cage. Caroline

Awww, that is so sweet, can Auntie Caroline have a card to Millie? LOL {Love-0002011E}

Try to persuade your dad to maybe let you have the playstand up, this way he would have time out and the mess wouldnt be a problem. Could it be moved into another room when its not in use or maybe a garage if you have one. I admit they can take up quite a bit of room but really are an essential for your bird especially if he is clipped. Get your dad to come on the forum and I will have a little word in his ear (only joking) I hope you can sort something out because you obviously love your bird and want the best for him. Caroline

Thats what he needs, a good regular diet and time out of his cage. This combination will give you a much happier grey who will probably get tamer and let you handle him more. Are you planning to get your own place in the near future? Caroline

www.24Parrot.com does something called poop off,it works a treat. The container comes witha brush on the top. I have also bought some from a pets at home store, I dont know whereabouts you are so dont know if you have one near you. Please talk to your dad and try to explain how important time out of cage is for your grey,tell him you will buy something and you will clean any mess up. If you want any ideas on diet there are many threads on here to help. I hope all works out for you and your grey. Caroline

Devil are you in the uk?

I agree with Judy. My greys get at least two meals a day of fruit and veg,it is essential to their diet. Does your grey not have regular time out of his cage. I buy a product called poop off to clean up the carpets if they do anything when they are out. This could lead to the problem of your grey not being tame. Just my opinion. Caroline

Can you give us some information about his daily diet, just to get an idea of what he is eating? I agree in the first picture he looks a bit bigger than the other two. Are they all recent pictures? Caroline

I was in a rush to get to work this morning and because the lovely British weather had changed again I grabbed my hoody and off I went. I am a dispenser in a pharmacy and had been working for about an hour when my boss pulled me to one side and said " I know your mad about your birds but can you not bring bits of them into work with you " He pointed at my hoody and yes you guessed, it was covered with bird poop all down the back. Will check what im wearing in the future!

I used Avian Biotech a few weeks a go when I tested Keeko. I am a big softie though and got the vet to pluck the feathers for me! I had the result back within 5 days. Its funny Siobhan,even though I only had keeko a week I thought he was a she and kept calling her my little girl. Yes turns out Keeko is a boy. I wouldnt have had the surgical option though, would not have been worth the risks even though they may be small.

Hi Nerissa, welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing more about Coco and hope you sorted out the cage problem. Caroline:) -
mpr86, both mine are fully flighted so I cant make any comment on the clip. I have just studied the pictures and dont see anything that looks worrying there after just having a look at my two. Sorry I cant be of any more help. Caroline

I was just wondering if the bird was clipped as well? My grey is about the same age and his flights are a lot longer in length. Is this what concerns you?
