  1. Moobu, The original poster asked about clipping their own CAGS wings. None of us are experienced Avian vets on here and I dont feel anyone is in a position to tell someone directions about clipping unless they have lots of years experience and are qualified to do so. We are just advising they see a qualified Avian vet and pointing out the problems that can occur if its not done properly! Clipping a baby grey is not a good thing to do, and I totally with Julies post on bird proofing the house! Accidents can happen wether a bird is clipped or not, we have heard of these so many times. I personally like to try and encourage someone to allow their baby to fledge and learn their flying skills as a bird should. Not pm them details on how to clip themselves!
  2. I agree with Sheila! This is something that should be left to a good experienced Avian vet! An uneven or bad clip can lead to all sorts of problems!
  3. The feather method involves freshly plucked feathers from the chest area, it wont work with lost feathers or blood feathers. Ive used this method with mine it is a cheap and easy way to Dna. If your baby has been blood Dna'd this is accurate so nothing will change as your baby gets older. The appearence of greys can be different from one to another. I have two Males and their head shape, size etc are completely different. I would definetly trust the Dna.
  4. Do NOT clip your birds wings just for this reason! Cover the cage with a sheet or something while the other grey is out so there will be no contact between both greys. You need to keep an eye on toe biting etc when one grey lands on anothers cage and they maybe dont get on. Some greys will just not tolerate each other. They may learn to respect each other from a distance but dont force them to by clipping their wings and giving them no choice. Try and work round it first. Two of mine dont get on and if I place a certain toy or sheet just over the top of the cage he will not go near him. I hope you find something that works for you.
  5. I wanted my greys micro chipping but my vet would only do it with a general anaesthetic so I decided not to. I wish I could find an Avian vet near me who would do it without.
  6. Yep! I can relate to that! Would have been much easier with a dog than three greys! I must be mad:laugh:
  7. Sorry I missed last nights meeting but I thought of you all whilst having a tipple:laugh:
  8. Two beautiful babies who are gonna be loved and spoilt rotten:kiss: Congratulations on your new addition Chiku xx
  9. Lyric is beautiful Jen. Hope he had a happy hatchday xxx
  10. It sounds like you are making good progress. It may seem like its going slowly but its the right thing to do and well worth it in the end. Try and have your grey Charlie in the family room if possible, they love to be involved and see everything thats going on. This will get Charlie familiar with your daily routine and household noises etc. Keep taking things slowly, babies do adapt quite easily, I hope everything continues to go well. Great name choice, my eldest grey is also a Charlie and he loves to tell me his name constantly lol. Keep us all updated and would love to see some pictures.
  11. I have three greys, they are called, Charlie Keeko Jasper
  12. Happy Hatchday to Barney xxxxx
  13. Those pictures are great! I know every morning I walk past Charlie with the post he tries to have a bite! Might use the greys instead of the shredder:laugh:

  15. Its difficult to say without actually seeing the lump. Would we be able to see it in a picture?
  16. That does look like a lot of blood to me! If your vet said its quite normal though I suppose it must be! I hope everything is ok today, dont beat yourself up things happen!
  17. I just got the call back from the lab as I have dna'd my youngest baby Jasper, he is officially a BOY! Two Males and one to go, I have a sneaky feeling Charlie could be a girl! Mmmmmmm...........
  18. Watching three mischevious greys is always fun at the best of times. The phone went this afternoon and after a quick chat I wondered where Keeko had gone... Well he had decided to fly in the hall way and chew Daves zips of his jackets lol. Think I am in trouble when he gets back:P
