1. Tyco also makes the fart noises and everytime she does she laughs afterward. she also blow her nose and coughs.
2. I also spend a great deal of time pampering my birds. Many times i have a bird on each shoulder and a bird on each hand. Tyco doesn't want to be held much but she does like me to be within her veiw at all times. when I have the birds sitting on me she watches and interacts from a distance. she loves her head scritches but will only accept them from the safty of her cage. so she gets 10 to 15 minutes of head scritches and love when she wakes up in the morning and before she goes to bed at night. other than that the only time she actually is on me is to move her to another room where I'm going to be for awhile or if there is a visitor that wants to meet her. she doesn't like to sit on my shoulder but she will sit on my knee or arm if I want her too. she prefers to watch from her playstand or her cagetop at what is going on. so I allow her to do what makes her most happy. My Amazon is just the oppisite if she had her way she would be with me 24/7 she loves to cuddle and interact with me she plays and snuggles with me all the time. I wish Tyco would be more like her but she's not so I love her just the way she is She is very different from any of my other birds. She shows her love in different ways but she definatly isn't a cuddle muffin like Fergie and my other birds are.
3. I've seen these pictures many times before and I think that the all red one look very unhealthy almost like its enemic or something. I also think that its quite ugly a few red feathers here and there is one thing but when they start doing things like that. I think its just wrong. I for one wouldn't pay a dime for that bird. I prefer the African Greys to look the way they are suppose to Grey with bright red tails or Grey with burgandy tails. If they have a few red feathers else where and its natural than thas fine also. but to me that red african grey is no longer a African grey they just are not suppose to look like that at all. Just my opinion.
4. I have never used aloe on my birds. If they ever started to pluck I gues I would but because they don't seem to have any problems and none of them pluck or barber their feathers and they are all in perfect feather I figure if its not broken why fix it. My birds are absolutly gorgous and healthy. I soak my birds once a week in the shower and bath. I put the plug in the bath tub and turn the shower on the I let the shower run until the water is chest level the birds really seem to enjoy it. I do spray them in between with a water bottle but they do prefer the bat and shower. As far as aloe vera goes i live where its very humid and I think thats why its not nessesary their skin never gets overly dry so the don't get itchy.
5. I have asthma and I have 2 cockateils and a Grey I find that as long as I keep an aircleaner running in the room they are in I have no problems. Tyco is quite dusty sometimes but she also likes to bath herself on a daily basis in her water dish and I give her a shower once a week in the winter and 2 a week in the summer. If I turn off the air cleaner I find that the dust will make it very difficult to breath because of my asthma but its no problem as long as the air cleaner is running.
6. That is so sad I'm so soory for your loss all of you. Now I'm afraid to use my oven. I have a selfcleaning oven but I do use the self cleaning setting. But Judy said that some self cleaning ovens have Teflon I just bought all brandnew appliances 2yrs ago when I sold my other house and bought the one I'm living in now. I'm going to have to call the manufacturer to make sure there is no teflon in my stove. I could not handle it if I lost any of my bird due to something like that I replaced all my pots and pans to stainless steel when I moved in here just to make sure that there was nothing like that in my home. I pray that I won't have to read any more post like this thanks to all your warnings. I trully hope that this will be read by all bird owners. I wish there was a way to expose that company that is saying that their product is totaly safe so that this won't happen again. It seems to me that so many company's could care less about how many beloved birds are hurt and killed as long as they can line their pockets. mabie you can report it to some of the animal protection places and they may be able to get this company to at least put some kind of warning on their product. Sorry for rambleing but this kind of things upset me I get very angry with company's that advertise that something is safe when it isn't
7. My Amazon does that to my arms she is constantly picking and licking me when she's on me I'm sure its her way of showing me that she loves me. My Macaw loves to lick my face close to my ears where th tiny fine hairs are he seems to like to try to preen them. I get a little nervous about him getting to close to my face he's just started stepping up regularly over the last month or so and I don't know weather I can trust him not to bite yet. He does try to be gentle but I don't think he know his own strength yet he's been lock up for 3 years so he has to learn everthing all over again. I must say he's coming along nicely.

9. I notice this once in awhile with Tyco I never paid to much attention but I haven't noticed it with Gizmo I'll have to keep my an eye out for it since Linda's Severe Macaw blushes mabie mine does too.
10. I'm definatly not planning to get anymore birds. I have enough to last me for a long time. With 3 big birds that are very demanding of my time and four little ones that also need love and attention. I have all I can handle I'm not saying never but for right now Gizmo my Macaw is just starting to trust and love me and Tyco is still in need of allot of reabilitation I have my work cut out for me. Its a labour of love and I enjoy every minute that I spend with them but they do take allot of my time there isn't much time for much else. I'm working allot more now than I was and because of that I find my birds are missing the time I use to spend with them but my finaces demand that I make more money these days. so instead of working 2 or 3 days a week I'm working 4 days Its not to bad because I work from 5pm to 11pm so its only 6 hours and the birds go to bed at 8pm so I'm only away from them for 3 hours 4 days a week but they still act as if its the worst thing I've ever done to them. and get very needy when I'm home. I know they will adjust but right now they don't like it much.
11. Thats is such a cute Story Tyco's alo a escape artist. When I bought her new cage I had to make sure their was no way she could escape the lock on her cage is a pin that goes into a hole in the top of the cage and through the frame of the door its about 6 inches long there is no way for her to reach the pin from inside her cage. She is veryseldem locked in her cage anyway except at night when she is sleeping or when noone is home. I had to get a cage like that when I first got her she would open her door then all the other irds doors then she would throw every food and water dish from all the cages accross the room. I came home one night to a huge mess that took me two hours to clean up. She's good as gold as long as someones home but leave her alone and boy can she cause havoc:woohoo:

13. It sounds to me that you are doing all the right things. some birds take longer than others to trust but he will in time just keep tring and talking to him softly giving him lots of good things to eat he will soon understand that you are safe and will come around it can take quite awhile for a Grey to trust a new owner they are very senseitive and intellegent and they can snce what you are feeling try to open your heart and show him all the love you can. he will pickup on that and start to respond. Greys need lots of patients and love so don't give up.
14. Oh my God!! I cannot believe that people treat birds like that breeder did. She is Either totaly ignorant or just plain stupid. either way she needs to be taken out of breeding any kind of bird or animal. please take that drive and make ure she still lives there and then put that woman out of bussiness once and for all. I know you pain and anger. and I pray thay God will help it subside. but not before that breeder is gone for good. Please don't think that there isn't another Grey out there for you because you are obviously a person who loves and needs to have a Grey companion look in the want ads on the web in your area there are so many birds that need loving homes. I got alot of my birds this way. and they are truly wonderful companions for a person like you. You obviously have a big heart and care deeply. these are all qualitys that are needed to be a responsible bird mom. Don't blame yourself for this its not your fault you did everything you could to make Shadows short life the best it could possibly be. please try again and don't leave this forum We wil be there for through all this. and if there's anything we can do just let us know.
15. well Mary your family is not alone with lots of death this season. My daughters life long friend went to a new years eve party last night and just after midnight he left the party and some crazy people killed him. just because he was half black. My daughter is so upset I don't even know what to say to make her feel better. They were so close all their lives they even had a pact that if neither of them were married by the time they were 30 yrs old that they would marry each other. What a scenseless death. He was only 21 years old. Our whole family is just in shock over this so I know exactly how you feel about all the deaths your going through right now.
16. Sounds like you have a wonderful flock I have 7 birds myself so I know what its like to have to juggle my time so that all the birds get quality time every day. All my smaller birds hang out with each other so its not to hard for me to take 3 of them at a time and have one on each shoulder and one on each of my hands. I can take turns giving each of them kisses and scritches or playing a game of gonna touch your tail with them. the bigger bird seem to need more one on one time so I try to fit in aleast an hour or two on a daily basis

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/01/01 15:28
17. Hi Doris it sounds to my like you have a very busy house hold it might help to answer some of your questions if you could tell me a bit more. where is you Grey kept in the house and does he have a place that he can retreat to if he wants to be alone. He may feel overwhelmed with everyone around him. if you could find a place where he can watch the others from a distance mabie in a corner where he has 2 side of his cage covered. then ask the others if they could try to approuch him only one at a time offering treats ar just to talk. it sounds as though he may just be feeling bombarded by to many people all at one time. I might be wrong but at 5 months old he should still be open to socializing and if he's not there nas to be something wrong
18. I rescued a Grey about 1 1/2 years ago now. and although she chose me from the begining it still took 7 months before she would allow me to touch her anywhere except her beak. We have come a very long way since then but it took tons of patiance and love. For the first while I thought she would never allow me to get close but one night before covering her cage she put her head down as if to say its ok to scritch me if you want. So of course I jumped at the chance. It was no more than a 1 second touch but just the fact that she allowed it thrilled me to no end I was on cloud 9 for 2 days. in the days after that first touch it turned into a nightly thing and she allowed more and more scritches. now it takes a good 1/2 hour to put her to bed with the playing and scratching and kissing. Don't get discouraged it will happen for you also. I do think getting another bird may help a little if your Grey sees you handleing the other bird and no harm is comeing to it and that you are a very caring and gentle person. I have an Amazon that I've had for a long time and her and I have a wonderful close relationship I cuddle and snuggle her and roll her over and over again and Tyco my Grey watches us play and cuddle all the time. I'm sure that is what made her decide that she wanted some of that affection also and so she put her head down one night to see if it would work for her like it worked for Fergie and it did and since then our relationship has blossomed into something very meaningful. She's not a cuddly bird by any means but every now and then when she is on my arm she will move herself very close to my body and snuggle in. and when she does this I know it her way of saying Ilove you. She still likes being kissed on her beak everynight and a scritch but that little snuggle once in a while is what makes it all worth while. Oh yea I almost forgot Tyco was 4 years old when I rescued her and I am her 4th owner. I'm sure your bird even though he sat in a pet store for 3 years will still be able to become a wonderful companion. If Tyco can after the hell she has been put through I'm possitive your bird can also. Patients and love and lots of it is the key.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/01/01 06:12
19. don't I know it my son inlaws Grandfather died on Christmas day which made it a very sad day for my daughter and her husband I'm glad their baby is to young to understand about death or he would not have had a merry Christmas either I'm sorry to hear about all the loss in your household as well. I'm Fergies chosen mate as well and she can be so so so sweet when she's hormonal she snuggles up really close and rubs her face and wings up against my face and neck she so cuddly in some ways I really like it when she's like this if ahe wasn't so hell bent on nesting it would be a wonderful time. I kow if I ever want to sell this house I'm going to have to replace the molding on 3 of my cupboard and the trim in a few places throughout the house. So far they have left the crown molding alone except where you can't see it at the back of the cupboards when she get up on top of the cupboards thats the first place she heads for and she has it chewed pretty good in a couple spots. rhank goodness you can't see it unless you climbed up on a step ladder and looked. I think my Cockateils going to be ok she's a little lonely at the moment and misses her mate but Because she's hurt there is no way I can let her stay in the same cage with him. He will kill her. Yesterday I felt so bad for the 2 of them so I took her mate into the room I have her in and put him on a portable play stand so he could visit for awhile. That seemed to make them both alot happier even though the couldn't be near each other at least they could see each other. They are not really mates as far as breeding as I will never put up a nest box but they are very close. I definatly do not want to raise baby birds. I have enough to deal with without that.
20. Sorry guy's didn't mean to neglect you or anything. Hope you had a good Christmas OUrs was very nice. Raja and Tyco are well and so are all my other bird except one of my little cocateils flew oto Tycos cage yesterday when I was out of the room and got a bite just above her leg on the leg mustle she doing ok and the vet sait to just put polysporin on it to keep it from getting infected. Its been a hellish month around here with christmas, work, and my Amazon being very hormonal. I spend most of my time chasing her off my kitchen cupboads she want to chew them up and make a nest on top of them. She has tons of wood toys and branches to chew but thats not good enough for her she wants to eat my house. If its not my cupboards its the crown molding that Is in every room in my home. It looks nice but its a stupid thing to have whaen you have birds that like to chew. She's finally getting back to her normal self now so I can get back to a more normal rotine also. Have a good Year and I will talk to you soon luv and hugs
21. She still a little hormonal not nearly as bad as she was. My kitchen doesn't look very nice right now . I stuffed huge body pillows up ontop of the cupboards so she can't get up there. She still trys sometimes but it doesn't work anymore. she's learning that when I say No that I mean it so every time she try's something shes not allowed all I have to do is say no Fergie I'm comeing to get you and she fly's right back to her cage as soon as I take a steo towards her. I guess she got tired of getting locked in her cage everytim she did something she wasn't allowed to do. I sure its at the tail end of it now she is starting to behave like her old self again. Thanks for asking
22. I called the vet this morning as I was going to make an appointment for her. when I took the cover off of her I was very suprized to find her climbing and eating and like nothing was wrong. the wound doesn't even look as bad as it did yesterday. I told my vet this and I also told her I was worried about a secondary infection she said that it sounds like my bird is on the mend and to just use polysporin on the wound so it doesn't get infected. she also said to make sure its polysporin and not neosporin because the polysporin is safe and the neosporin is posionous. I still have her in the hospital cage with the heating pad and 3 sides covered but she seems to be happily whistleing away and chirping. Its trully amazing what these little birds can get over.
23. I have a female Shith-zu that I used to breed she is very maternal and very protective of the birds. I my bird are walking around the house she stays right beside them just to make sure nobody steps on them she also screams and howls when they screech or screem its enough to drive a person round the bend Thats when mom say doggy has to go out side til the birds quiet down.

25. I've bought 2 of my birds from out of province and had them shipped to me. I paid for the bird and the shipping cost in advance and both time recieved my birds. I think most breeders are legit bt do be carful I would and ask your breeder for her vets phone number so that you can get some confermation that she trully is a breeder
