1. When a Grey picks you its wonderful and you know right away he/she is yours forever. When I walk into see Tyco for the first time as soon as she saw me she got so excited streaching her neck towards me paceing back and forth She wouldn't let anyone touch her at all when I went up to her she stepped up on to my arm let me kiss her beak and rub her beak Tyco is a rescue so this was a very big thing for her her owner ay totaly flabergasted that I could do this with her 5 minutes after I met her and they had never been able to touch her thats how you know when your Grey picks you. I'm not saying that it hasn't been a long road for earning Tyco trust but because she picked me it hasn't been as long as a could have been. I'm also curious your reasons for wanting a boy instead of just a Grey and what happens if it happens to be the girl bird that picks you. there is really no difference in ability or intellegence between a girl and a boy. I have a girl and she has a vocabulary of over 500 word and phrases and its growing on a daily basis she is so smmart and learns so fasr and she's only 5 yrs old who knows what she will be able to do in another 5 yrs
2. When she flew of her cage did you run over and pick her up right away or did you wait till she looked at you for help if you ran over right away this could be the problem as she now thinks of you as a peditor in her mind. Try again take her to a mutual spot some how and start over 10 minute 2or3 times a day start the praise and treats all over again and good luck Pat
3. Happy hatch day Josey she is very pretty I love her colour Tyco is so dark copared to the beautiful silver color of Josey very nice
4. Very good I think it should be put in every petstore beside the birds and on every breeders door before you knock on that door you have to read this mabie people would think twice about what it really means to have birds I read somewhere that only 1% of the population has what it takes to own and keep birds that is a very small percenage something sould be done because before long there is going to be allot of dead bird because there are not enough homes for them all Its going to be a very sad day for birds very soon
5. Oh she is just incredibly beautiful thankyou for sharing I love Macaws but I could never afford on the only way I could possibly have one is if someone needed to rehome one my favorite is the scarlet macaws or the hyicinth and both are way up there in price mind you I wouldn't turn down any Macaw if it needed a home
6. forgot to mention Tyco turned 5yrs old on Feb 28 2008
7. I got those pictures after a fun game of fetch she was doing the throwing I was doing the fetching and I asked her if I could take a picture of her and she just stood there so I took the pictures. As for the gifs a freind of mine did them for me she is very talented I sent her some pics of my birds and she put them in there.

9. have you thought about making your own out pvc pipe and sisel rope. Its pretty easy and it saves a bundle of money and you can add to it a little at a time until you have it as big as you want you ca even add natural banches to it so they have something to chew and its good for thier feet to perch on as well
10. I don't think you have to much to worry about baby birds have not mastered the preening prosess and tend not to take as good care as older bird I would probubly take him in and get his flight feather trimmed properly just because when they are all uneven like that they could become irritating to him and he may start barbering or plucking them as for the rest just wait until his first molt and I'm sure his next feathers he will keep beautifully.
11. Tyco actually stood there and let me take a couple of Pictures of her so I thought I would she My beautiful grey with all of you
12. very cute got love those Grey's

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/05/26 03:51
13. Tyco will only bath in her water dish so I bought her a big one she soaks everything and emptys it at least three times before she done. I'd love to get a vidio of her but she is just too camera shy Pat
14. I bought a couple new toys for my birds yesterday they are a foot toy. basicly its a bunch of small wooden dowel made into a ball shape and held together with even smaller wood dowels with a walnut in the middle so basicly they have to destroy the toy to get at the nut. I gave one to Tyco this morning expecting her to be afraid of it. she wasn't her confidence level has increased dramaticly in the past little while she imediatly attackthat toy and threw it around and basicly is having a wonderful time with it. the only thing she's afraid of these days is the camera when i try to take a picture she stops everything and runs down the back of her cage I think she thinks it going to steal her soul or somthing LOL any way I'm very glad her confidence has improved greatly Pat
15. Mr. Magoo flew and attacked my daughter twice and each time I imediatly took him and put him in his cage and told him he was a bad bird no biteing he only did it twice and learned very quickly that as soon as He did that it was cage time for awhile. I would try this as it works well. I know its hard to trust them again once they have bitten you but don't give up on him I'm sure he just didn't understand the situation at that moment try working with him to sosalize him to your whole family and then mabie he will feel less threatened by the presence of your husband coming into the room and sitting beside you. and I also agree that a diary might help just to see when he actually starts to get agressive and why. Pat
16. I won't get another bird to soon right now Tyco is just starting to come around to me she actually flew over to my bed the other day just to hang out with me. I will transfew all my love to her and try very hard to make her the wonderful loving bird I know she wants to be. She has been stepping up onto my hand everytme I ask her too as long as she is not on her cage. I take her off her cage with a perch. Then I step her up on to my hand and she will let me carry her where ever I want to go with her. Mind you I'm going to have to get her nails clipped as they are so sharp she makes me bleed from holding on to my arm so tight. I don't mind as long as she continues to make progress she can make me bleed with her claws anytime she wants. Pat
17. I brought home a Citron crested Cockatoo about a month ago after his mama died. I sad because I'm going to have to give him to someone else And I really don't want to as I fallen quite in love with him. Since I've had him I have not been able to breath I'm back on steroids for my lungs and Ive been haveing at least 2Asthma attacks a day. I'm very allegic to him I bought 2 air cleaners a couple weeks ago hoping that would help but so far it hasn't helped very much. Also he has been flying off his play top and attacking my 12 year old daughter and taking beg chunks out of her arms. I found a wonderful couple to adopt him they have a another bird that they rescued several years ago now. And they are overjoy at the prospects of having another companion in the house, They are coming to get him tomorrow. All i can do is cry tonight even tough I know its best to do now rather than later Ive only had him a month and this will be a forever home for him I can still visit and I will get all the updates I want its still very hard. Pat
18. They are gorgous I will never know the joy of haveing a baby African grey so It so nice to see them though someone else I tend to buy birds that need rescuing I do have a baby cockateil but its definatly not the same as a baby African grey and you have 2 of them how lucky you are Pat
19. If your worryed about the birds getting dirty from the news brown paper bags cut open make a good altunative until you get your birds new cages. There are so many birds that get rehomed these days just look on the Internet classifieds there a a ton of hardly used cages for sale for very little money. of course you'll have to disifect them but even with a cage you buy new needs to be disifeccted also. I bought 2 huge cages 1 for my African Grey and 1 for my Amazon both of them are like brand new and worth at least 1000.00 each and I bought them both for 200.00 so its just a suggestion Pat
20. Mad Max I have to take Tyco and Fergie to the vet for thier yearly well bird check up soon and it time for wing clipping and nails again also as its summer and both of them are fully flighted right now so They can't go out until they are clipped again. When I take them I will ask about micro chipping them thats a good idea I wonder if they can put a GPS in the chip to make it easy to find them Thanx Pat
21. Oh I'm sorry Isee he is one years old how long have you had him and do you know if he had any health issues before you got him and if you don't know can you find out. Pat
22. I don't like to suggest anything in the way of drugs but ask your vet about a detox mabie ask your vet also to do a blood work up just to see if there is anything else besides a bactieral infection I know blood work can be expensive but it may be the only way to find out whats trully wrong. how old is your grey
23. your best bet is either a very big powder coat or stainless steel my Cockatoo is in the same cage he's had for 20+ years and is still in pretty good shape stainless steal is the very best by one and you should never have to replase it it might run you as much as 1200.00 but worth it in the long run rather than putting out 800. to a 1000. every few years I buy my cages used because I don't have lots of money but I always make sure there in brand new condition and its quite amazing how many of them are around people buy their birds witout knowing how much work it takes to own a bird then they get rid of the bird and sell the cages for cheep the cages are mabie three months old. I got my Greys cage from Greyhaven bird rescue I only paid 100. 00 for it and the money goes to help other birds. The got rid of it because they are looking for a new facility and the cage was just to big to move around from foster home to foster home the cage does not even look like anything was ever in it. when you ready to get a bird this could be a option for you. Pat
24. Andrew I have beenfollowing this story since the begining I can feel your pain icuts like a knife right to my heart. I pray to God that you get the love of your life back. I know the love you feel for her because i have the same kind of love for my birds my friends and family coment all the time about it. they say can't you talk about anything else except your birds. they are everything to me just like Tui is to you. I trully hope that Tui will find a way to come home to you weather she finds you or go to someone and they find you. Don't lose hope there are so many people helping you look for her that I'm sure she will be home before you know it. have faith that the Lord God will find a way and please keep us updated on any progress no matter how small. I am in the proses of teaching my Grey her address and phone number I have it on a tape recorder and when I go out I turn it on so that she can hear it over and over it is in my voice so it will also comfort her while I'm gone. I just could not bear it if she got out and was lost. without some kind of way to find her way home. with my dogs they have tags on their collar with parrots you have to do something else so I think teaching them their address and phone number is a good way to start. Pat
25. Your aunt is already makeing it a game you must nip this situation in the butt now before it gets worse tell your to stop laughing. That getting bit is nothing to laugh about and tell her to mind her own bussiness the bird is your not hers. If your bird continues this biting thing I would imediatly after the bite put him in his cage for a time out and tell him no biting as your putting him there he won't be thinking that its a very fun game if every time he does it he get locked in his cage for 5 or ten minutes It works really good for birds. You can't hesitate or wait he has to be able to assosiate the bite with being locked up and he will soon stop the bad behavior Pat

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/05/24 01:04
