How rude Iam got so busy thinking about how to disenfect toys I forgot to mention how veryvery sorry I am at your loss I can only imagine how you must be feeling my heart goes out to you and your family in this time of sadness
-
Bleach and water will disenfect the cage and jf you have a dishwaher with a sani cycle I would put all the toys belongings dishes everything through the dishwasher turn on the heat for drying and water temp and that will sterilize it mind you it also will probubly take the color off the toys as they use food coloring but you can always recolorthem just take a cu tip an dip in food coloring and dab rince off the accsess and let dry or if you don't care about color Im sure your birds won't either when I make toys out of wood for my birds I put polka dots and heaet shapes with food coloring I don't color the whole peice of wood they chew it and make them into tooth picks regardless of how much color is on them as long as it looks like a toy acts like a toy its a toy to them and that means it has to be destroyed

what a beautiful bird and your right it would be a very sad day for the world if this or any other animal was no longer in this world. Pat

I have 2 conures and they are bonded to each other but I keep them in separae cages so they also stay bonded to me when I go to work I will put them in the same cage for company but as soon as I get home I let them out and at bed time they go to sleep in separate cages. just my way of doing things to me its very important to be able to go and pick them up when i want to and pet them and basicly have a close relationship with my birds I don't just want to be one of the flock I want to be their mom

Tyco is five years old and her eyes are starting to turn yellow now she turned 5 yrs old on February 28 so they do start to turn younger then 7or8 Tyco is proof of that Pat

Vinagar and water will disenfect and will not hurt the wood in any way also 1 part bleach to 10 parts water will also do the job then put them in the sun to dry for 2 day to let the bleach evporate if you use vinagar rince really well the bleach too for that matter but the sun will work to dry them in 2 days all will be good

Are you not worried that they will become so bonded to each other that they won't want to be bonded to you any longer There is no way I would put them in the same cage togeer except to play all my birds will always have thier own space so that they will stay bonded to me

my Tyco trenbles sometimes too when she is nervous or excited or just because don;t worry its the way they are. if they are showing other signs of illness while trembling thats when to start worrying but if but if they are healthy in every other way then its normal behavour

I rescued a Grey Congo last october she is every thing to me. I wouldn't trade her for any baby she turned 5 in February. When I met Tyco she was in pretty bad shape her flight feathers were completly barbered on one sidr which made her very unbalanced she would fall so haed on her keel that I thought she would slit the skin. I took her to the vet and got her other wing clipped so they matched and she hasn't barbered since. She chose me as hers/ when I walk in and met her for the first time and she saw me she started pacing back and forth streatching her neck towards me as far as she could when I opened the cage she litrly jumped on to my arm she let me rub her beak and kiss her beak. the person that had her at the time could not believe her eye she said that she didn't dare let the bird out becaus when she did the bird would fly at her and attack her and bite her all over her face hands where ever the bird can get her beak on. I felt so bad for the bird because this poor bird was locked in a small cage not big enough for my Conure and I didn't have any money to buy her. the woman was a crack head and wanted 800. for the bird. she kept the bird in a back room with a dirty filthy blanket over her the cage had so much poop on it the water was filthy and she had no toys and just a few seeds to eat. I left and came back the next day the same thing happen Tyco definatly wanted to come home with me I told the woman all I could come up with was 300. and would she take that as a down payment and I would be back in two days to give her the rest she said fine basicly because she new the bird really wanted to be with me. I went back in a couple days but I was still 100. dollars short she took it and I brought Tyco home. Ive always been able to kiss her beal and touch her beak but until lately thats about it. Its taken 8 months but Tyco is finally letting me give her the odd scratch on her head she will now step up onto me when ever I ask her too. and Talk when I first got her she could say a couple thing but mostly just sound effects that she heard outside like the beep beep of the garbage truck backing up and dogs barking. when I got her it was like someone took the blind fold off she is like a little spounge learning about her world she nows so many things now its incredible she asks for thing by name she can count to 3 and knows 4 different colours she tells the dogs no barking go lay down. and just latley her confidence level has gone up a trillion percent she isn't afraid of much anymore as long as I assure her that its safe and it won't hurt her she excepts it. She has now bonded to me and trustme so much that she takes my word for it. Adopting an older bird can be very rewarding. but you must have patient and don't push that bird to do any thing it doesn't feel comfortable doing let him or her choose what is exceptable and the best way to adopt an older bird is to let it pick you a baby bird also for that matter. I hope this helps you to under stand what you might be in for and the length of time it may take to earn the trust of an older bird. Tyco cam with a lot of baggae I'm her fourth and last owner so she had real trust issues I'm actually suprised that she came around so quickly. Its taken lots of love and patients though

Good for you it will sofen those pin feathers so they can grow without irratating you little guys sensetive skin aloe mixed with the water will help soothe the irritation also I don't use it but I know many people that do I just put my birds in the bathtub every second day and hose them down with lukewarm water and they do fine

I agree that Batryl is usally givin for at least 10 days 5 days is not enough in fact it could cause the bacterial infection to get worse instead of better I to would see if I could find a good avian vet and fast you don't want to have your baby that sick for to long if you can't get to a good Avian vet mabie see if you can find the phone number for one that your vet can call and get some clear instruction just a thought Please don't worry I'm sure God is looking out for your little guy and you and I'll send healing thought your way please please keep us informed as I'm sure we are all as concerned as you are for your bird and his health

Fergie my Amazon is a rescue and before I got her she was in a very abusive home where there was allot of fighting and violence to say the least Fergie can swear like a sailor last time I took Fergie to the vet for her check up and nails and wing clip I was waiting in the waiting room while the vet was clipping her. the waiting room was ful of course all of a sudden at the top of her lungs you could hear Fergie sayin get hour hands off me you f*#*ên BI^$*ch I wanted to crawl into a hole and die everybody in the place looked straight at me and heres me trying to explain that I didn't teach her that. thank goodness the vet know Fergies history so she thought it was funny but when she brought Fergie out I so wanted to say she's not mine so badly LOL
