  1. Greys can shiver for a variety of reasons, excitment or when their nervous, when they wake from being asleep they often appear to shiver but are putting their feathers back in place, they often shiver after a nice soaking / bath, their muscles will vibrate to increase the air flow under their feathers to help them dry. This looks like a shiver. As long as your grey is not shivering constantly then it's nothing to worry about
  2. No problems, happy to help Do keep us updated with monkey's progress, great name by the way
  3. The hyacinth macaw is considered to be one of the endangered species of the macaws due to the over collection of people wanting to keep them as pets.If you can find one it will come with a very high price tag,in the UK they can sell for £7000 upwards & they don't come up for sale very often. personally any hyacinths should go into a breeding programme as opposed to being kept for a pet to ensure this amazing bird doesn't disappear forever. Any macaw is not for the beginner & needs an experienced & knowledgeable owner .<br><br>Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/07/19 12:57
  4. Hers is a thread on harnesses.... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73556-harness-training.html
  5. All babies wean at different rates,Monkey is just taking a little longer but nothing to worry about & he will start to refuse the formula & let you know when he has had enough.Be sure to offer him a variety of veggies, fruit, soaked or cooked beans etc..It's far easier to introduce new foods from a young age.Im sure you have read tons of info on handfeeding but i have included a link for you.. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73409-handfeeding-a-baby-grey.html As long as he is active through out the day, playing & is fully alert then the cat naps are perfectly normal. Greys learn to fly from anywhere from 9 weeks onwards, The first flights themselves often are clumsy and sometimes result in some sort of “crash” landing but they soon become experts.
  6. It may be worth buying a scale to monitor her weight,it will give you peace of mind too you can always offer her a warm feed at night before bed off a spoon if she will take it,something like oatmeal, baby food is a good one,all 4 of my greys still love a warm feed before bed & they range from 18 months to 3 years old
  7. Mine haven't stolen anything but have managed to break a few chains & they always went for my earings,so know having the flock i do i don't wear any jewellery apart from my wedding ring .
  8. Begin to introduce her now to all sorts of foods,if you leave it she may refuse as she gets older,it's far easier to start when their young.Perhaps offer her the tropical fruit mix & add some fruit to it,i would leave her a bowl of pellets out so she has access to them at all times,i dont believe in feeding at set times.for dinner/supper try offering warm veggies, carrots, broccoli, peas sweetcorn etc.. you could mash them slightly for her.Try some cooked beans, pinto soya etc.. they generally are a big hit.You can always try things like pasta, rice mixed with a little scrambled egg.. have a good look around the bird food room, there are various threads on diet.
  9. Weighing her everyday after her big morning poop is the best way to monitor her weight. How old is she ? apart from pellets what else are you offering her ? Does she eat veggies, fruit etc.. ? She may well be a little grouchy if she is hungry. If you tell us a little more about her diet,i can help some more
  10. {Feel-good-0002006E} Mel their so funny ! but i completely know where your coming from, im forever making toys, adding perches to playstands etc.. with 4 greys & a macaw i can never come up with enough

  14. If you are not sure, then offer the formula but don't force the baby to eat if the baby refuses. If he has a night time feed then you can drop the morning one.Your baby can lose up to 10% of its weight during the weaning stage. Once baby is weaned, its important to continue monitoring how much it actually eats by feeling its crop and watching its weight.
  15. Good question Here is an interesting article well worth a read ... http://www.africangreys.com/articles/relationships/mirror.htm

  17. Give a girl a break, how can i see in that bag ? maybe try serving the broccoli etc warm or mashed, they all like to eat things in different ways, another good way of serving raw veggies & fruit is on a bird kebab
