  1. I only know the contact for the UK im afraid but have found this link for you..hopefully are US members will be able to help you. http://awic.nal.usda.gov/nal_display/index.php?info_center=3&tax_level=2&tax_subject=180&topic_id=1104
  2. Hi Scott & Welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing more from you & your grey
  3. "She says he'll be real easy to rehab" If he has been neglected over the years then you may have a long road ahead of you im afraid ,it's not as easy as the owners quote above.Patience is the key word here,im sure you are fully aware of what your taking on but changes are going to take time. The grey will need time to adapt to his new owners & environment,he needs to gain your trust so you can build on a relationship with him. The first thing i would suggest is a full exam with an avian vet to determine his health & if there is any medical reasons for the plucking,if he hasnt had time spent with him it may be due to bordom, lack of stimulation etc..if you do a search you will find many threads on plucking. Do you know what kind of diet he is on ? Again a poor diet can lead to health problems. We have a bird food room which has various topics on diet,so worth popping in there & having a good read. As for biting greys bite for a reason,it may be fear, aggresion, instinct, attention seeking etc.. You need to find out in what situations he is biting in,then we can work on resolving them. Many of our members have taken on older greys so will be along with their advice,it may be a long road but given time & patience it is very rewarding taking on an older grey & as a forum we will endeavour to help you.
  4. {Feel-good-000200BB} Top tip, especially for the more fortunate members who live in a hotter climate than the UK :pinch:
  5. {Feel-good-0002006E} Sorry Penny but that's So funny, made me laugh the first around
  6. Mel offer him a water bowl, you shouldnt be giving water to him via syringe at 12 weeks.
  7. Mel how are you giving him water after the formula ? He should have access to a water dish, you dont need to give him water,If your grey regurgitates food or fluids you may be giving too much.
  8. I had a wild grey who i could not handle at all,i would open his cage,he'd climb out & stay perched in one place, when he was hungry he always went back for his food inside the cage,i never allowed him to eat outside the cage until i had a little control over him, unfortunately he had been mistreated & was petrified of the towel, but he always made his own way in.If you toweling Coco is the only way to go then personally i would if it means he gets to spend time out,he may as i said go back in of his own back when the hunger kicks in
  9. He may do Mel,use that one when he is out of the cage & your supervising him
  10. I wasn't implying you did stare or glare,i was just stating a fact,if you avoid direct eye contact with Coco he may feel more secure. If you don't want to leave him caged indefinitely then id let him make his own way out. It's very early days in your relationship with him & it will at times feel like 2 steps forward & 1 step back, but given time & patience you will make progress.
  11. funny story, one of my greys tells my dog "to go out " they are funny how they mimic certain things.
  12. Hi Mark & Welcome to the forum,we look forward to hearing more from you & Yogi,Nice picture
  13. I personally i wouldn't leave him caged. Will coco step up onto a perch ? If so use the perch instead of your hand,if not then let him come out on his own accord.Make sure food is only accessible inside the cage, i can assure a hungry grey will return to the cage at some point to eat.Another valuable point to remember is that Staring and glaring directly at your grey is threatening and intimidating,it's like the predator staring at dinner, frightened, nervous or phobic birds should not be looked at straight on or stared at. Sideways looks are much less threatening to them,so avoid eye contact when talking to him for the time being.
  14. Here is a link for a thread i wrote on introducing toys to baby greys but the same will apply to any age grey ... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73105-teaching-your-baby-to-play.html
  15. Keri you dont need to leave the forum just because you no longer have Floyd. What about Chole ? We do have a room for other species You can still actively take part in the forum
  16. They all wean at different rates,if he is eating well then i wouldnt be overly worried.continue with the handfeed if possible id try for an evening one to ensure he has a full crop before bedtime.Keep an eye on his weight. You could try a little warm oatmeal etc.. in the mornings .

  19. Yep there be no stopping Mel now,we will have tons of pictures They look fine Mel,as Judy said except the small box of beads
  20. Siobhan i have a coupel of those swings too & none of mine would go on them,i turned then into perches in the end :pinch:
  21. I see no reason as to why a grey cannot live happily in a family environment with young children. My kids were older,14 & 18 when i got my first two greys so i have no experience with younger kids & greys, but i do have a friend who visits & her kids are 6 & 9, they go in my grey room & handle my four greys without a problem. As with everything i have explained how to handle the greys & how to behave around them.I think personally it's down to educating the younger ones & setting boundaries for them. The big bonus here in the UK is that many breeders do raise their babies with children & that stands them in good steed for their new homes.
  22. Chole is a cutie, thanks for sharing her with us.
  23. Thanks Penny for the links, the UK is not listed on their store locater
