  1. Mel nearly all greys go through the scratching at the bottom of the cage phase,it's nothing to worry about & given time he will grow out of it.As for chucking his food bowl it's a popular pastime for greys,if he does it regularly then look into getting a crock pot / lock pot there pretty fool proof Ignore this behaviour as it's often attention seeking,he will settle down if you ignore him.
  2. Mel Avoid frozen vegetables that have sugar or salt added & boiling the vegetables for too long will result in loss of the nutrients in general the less they are boiled the more vital ingredients they will retain. You can just take them from the freezer & allow them to defrost without the need to boil,if you want to serve them warm either heat in the microwave or i tip tepid pre boiled water over them from the kettle.

  10. I would put the water bottle in the cage with the water dish under it with just a little water. Perhaps smear the ball end with something like a little peanut butter to encourage your grey to investigate it,hopefully he will work out that water comes out of it to
  11. Mel without doing a search which will take forever to find the thread, i believe it was an older grey, some nasty bites have been on the fleshy skin section between the thumb & finger,as to the circumstances im sorry i cant remember, if i do find the thread ill link it here

  15. That wasnt to bad, 5 hours to encourage him to venture into the new cage use a few fimiliar toys he is use to,then add the new ones at a later date,it may be the toys discouraging him from sneaking a look

  17. African grey parrots need a healthy, balanced diet to receive proper nutrition. as opposed to diet of just seeds / pellets and water, your grey will require a base diet of pellets/a good quality seed mix specifically for African greys, fresh fruits, vegetables, pulses( beans, kidney, fava, pinto etc ( these should be soaked for 24hrs and/or cooked, never fed raw ) & of course the occasional sharing of your dinner, for example pasta, rice, jacket potato etc.. African greys are prone to calcuim deficiencies so be sure to offer foods which are rich in calcium, bok choy, spinach, broccoli, turnip greens, mustard greens... Hi Toni ,Dandelion greens are richer in potassium than bananas, and the flowers are rich in lecithin, they also contain many trace minerals,& they are a member of the sunflower family
  18. Thanks for that Terri, Bella is so full of personality she brings a smile to my face everytime
  19. Well considering we are grey owners we are very biased here ,Great grey
  20. Sounds about right Carolyn, mine are exactly the same, give them a lolly stick or loo roll & their in heaven
  21. Rosenzahra good post & i second the answer having a macaw myself Along with my four greys my macaw is like having a child & all the responsibilities that go with it B)
  22. He needs to learn to drink for himself Mel,if you have any problems you can offer a little natural apple juice etc.. to encourage him
  23. good suggestion Zpyder
  24. Zahra it's so appropriate dont you think
  25. Mel a greys beak could easily inflict severe damage, they are capable of very nasty bites which some of our members have experienced & required stitches for.If you are considering allowing your grey to ride on your shoulder then it is imperative that you teach your grey to step up on command, this will allow you to remove him from your shoulder. My macaw rides on my shoulder but steps up every time she is asked.Even so allowing any bird on your shoulder will always carry the potential risk of injury but it is a personal choice & a decision that only each owner can make.
