  1. Patrick go for it 100 % , you have thought it through, you know each bird & i dont envisage any problems.I look forward to hearing about Joey's arrival
  2. Has he had a vet check Susan ? Birds cant really reach their own faces to pull feathers out.How old is he ? any history on plucking ? Spray him once or twice a day with water, This will soften the pin feathers and relieve some of the itchiness he may have.If he needs help as single birds often do with new feathers,Squeeze the pin feather gently between your thumb and forefinger. Gently roll the end of the quill between your fingers. The sheath should fall off easily. If he is not eating well i would consider a vet check.
  3. Great stories everyone, make the most of the cuddles while their all still young, unfortunately some do grow out of the cuddly stage.
  4. Thanks for the great update.Im pleased to hear your baby is doing well
  5. Hi Sameera, thank you for updating us on Zahzu.Im sorry she is having so much trouble with her feathers.A blood feather is an actively growing feather that still has a blood supply running to it.I'm afraid once a broken blood feather begins bleeding, the simplest solution is to gently remove the damaged feather by pulling it.Some greys suffer more than others.Im afraid i cant offer any advice to avoid this happening, perhaps have a chat with your vet.
  6. Pat here is a link to an article Dan wrote about hot weather .... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/83704-hot-weather-advisory.html#83705
  7. Im with Caroline, please take her back for the x-ray so everything can be ruled out.Did you vet do a blood calcium level test ? Im pleased she has picked up a little, offer her a variety of different foods to pick on.
  8. Well fingers are crossed here Toni, time is the best healer even tho your going nuts,it will be worth it in the long run
  9. Hi Di, like Caroline i've never had any problems with chains. If Monty has got caught in them then remove them from the cage when he is unsupervised.I would replace the chain with a leather strip, you can buy them online or there is a really good site called pine4parrots run by a lady called Yvonne.Get the other half to snap the links at the bottom with some pliers & replace with the leather
  10. I love that skewer Mark,how cute
  11. Hi carlosrugby & Welcome to the forum. Two greys how exciting, are they babies ? We have many topics here on the forum so please have a good look around. We look forward to hearing more from you & your two greys
  12. Here is the original thread http://www.greyforums.net/forums/newsroom/70031-sad-news-toni-a-forum-member.html
  13. Tyco sure looks  with Fergie Pat :pinch:
  14. Hi n2fisher are you going to be building a play gym ? or made any in the past ?
  15. Well personally i wouldnt feed it to my flock,it contains gelatin, which is made from animal bone. There is such a variety of alternative things you could feed your grey,im sorry but why would you want to feed jello ?
  16. Mel if your worried about his weight & the amount he is eating you can go back to just a night feed.Perhaps try a spoon as opposed to the syringe.I would remove the sunflower seed from his mix,all greys would live on them if they were allowed.Feed the nuts in moderation. The best judge on the amount he is eating is to monitor his weight daily, keep a record & see if there is any big drops or if he is maintaining his weight.
  17. Well Fergie certainly looks like she is enjoying her new bell Pat,thanks for sharing
  18. {Feel-good-0002006E} This is so funny, i wish other members would pop in & have a read,it's one way of getting my daily laugh :side:
  19. {Feel-good-0002006E} Thats alot of supplies
  20. Yep they are a great way to offer either fruit or veggies or a combination of both I highly recommend getting one.I just cut chunks of fruit or veg & hang it up,i remove them after about an hour as i dont like to leave them hanging around for too long.
  21. Siobhan has posted a good link, here is a second link.. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/70476-your-greys-body-language.html#70830 Excessive daylight can also cause your bird to become irritable & tired, greys should not be in a light environment for more that 12 hours a day.
  22. {Feel-good-0002006E} You got it bad Mel,not sure there is a cure for that fever you have
  23. It is very difficult at times to tell the difference between vomiting & regurgitating. A bird who is regurgitating or vomiting will make a head-bobbing and neck-stretching type of movement.Vomiting is often accompanied by a quick head flick movement.A bird that reguritates will bring up food & offer it to you or a toy.If a bird has vomited you will see food in the cage,on the floor & even stuck on your bird.If you unsure then please seek the advice of your avian vet.
  24. judygram wrote: Similar but not the same, one requires anesthesia as it would hurt without it and the other doesn't I only wish that was true Judy, there is unfortunately many breeders out there who continue to practice tail docking without any anaesthetic at between three to five days of age due to the UK ban.I can not speak for other countries as im not aware of the rules or guidelines. The docking of dogs' tails was banned in England from 6 April 2007 and in Wales from 28 March 2007 but with exemptions from the ban for certain working dogs, and for medical treatment. A total ban in Scotland took effect 30 April 2007 Edited to say i shall say no more on this thread & if anyone was offended by any of my comments then i apologise, that was not my intention & they were not personal attacks on any member.<br><br>Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/07/27 19:44
