lol ya they don't like to show off for us.

Well she has always talked just not to me. Only when my back is turned or I am in the next room. She is not talking now but doing a lot of bird noises. Even that is good cause normally when I have her out of the cage she rarely makes a sound. lol But wow so cool after 8 years for her to talk to me like that.

OMG Sorry Im so excited I had to yell. Que my TAG is a closet talker. I have had her out all day and the quakers of course are going nuts talking and singing. I'm on the computer playing a game. And I hear. "what you doing?" I turn to look at her and said "What" and she looked dead at me and said it again!!! I told her I was playing a game. She had not asked again yet. Yes there are tears in my eyes. Now she is boing the dog barks. Wonder how long before she talks to me again. lol

One or two more enteries sure would be nice. This well clost on the 10th so you don't have much longer to get them photo's in. Get to clicking.

I would not let the bird bite you. That only re enforces a bad habit. Back off. Give him time. Wait for him to come to you then ask him to step up. Sounds like he will in time. Bathing is not to tricky. It only took me 6 months to get Que to bath in a bowl of water. If your bird likes veggies or foot toys just put them in the bowl of water and offer it everyday. In the mean time his water bowl is ok and maybe a spray bottle for a wetter bath. So to speak. Sounds like you have come a long way in one month. Gratz and keep up the great work.

Sorry only way I know to get him back undercontral is to clip. You can always let them grow back once he is a well mannered parrot again.
-
Awww can't wait to see the pictures.
-
Oh sorry thought you had other birds then just finches. lol Good luck

Opps didn't mean to double post and wow was my spelling bad. lol

My understanding there is no difference. My grey is a female. She is a TAG and a closet talker but I have been told that has nothing to do with it.
-
No they are in the living room. I would worry that they would not get enough attention if I stuffed them in a bird room. lol I know people do it but out of site out of mind. Is how I am.
-
If you do get them I would be prepaired to house seperate just in case. But that being said why not some new toys for the birds you do have? Or spend a day doing some extra cleaning? Or how about a new play stand or new cage or.... Anyway you get the idea. lol Don't want you to get in over you head. There are days I feel I have two too many pet birds.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/03/05 19:55

They are very messy. And need to be able to fly. We have both out on the farm where I work and they are not in the same flight cause of the problems you spoke of. Most of the diamonds are gone now and most that is left is the ring neck doves. The doves are in a flight that is about 60 deep 10 wide and 12 tall. The finches are in one much smaller. Now if you could set up an outdoor avairy....<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/03/05 19:39

OK did some more asking around about this and here is one tip that made really good since to me. Get you some baby pictures. Of yourself or your husband blown up would be best if you can't find any try baby magazines and use many different large pictures. During play time show your grey the baby pictures. Say baby. Sweet Baby. Don't let you grey bite the pictures. Even better tip was to get a life size baby doll and treat it like the real thing around the grey. Carry it around. But still spend time with the grey so s/he learns baby is not a toy for him or a bad thing.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/03/06 13:17

I have heard wonderful things about this kit. http://yhst-51898397859030.stores.yahoo.net/gestcltrkit.html So I ordered me one. I have even heard about people using it to help with taming a bird. So maybe it well help me with Doodlebug's taming too. And it is suppose to help bring birds out of the shell that don't play a lot. Well see. Wish me luck and most of patience to follow threw. lol

Ok going to try some simple tricks with my clicker and Que but got to teach her first that the clicker means reward. lol So anyone have any clicker trianing stories or tips?
-
Thank you so very much. I do feel better now. Think I asked this same sort of question (now that I think about it) A couple months back. BTW Que is 8 years old.

Thought that might get your attention. I have been reading all the wonderful stories about people and their greys and I can't help but think I have a dud. She is not very chatty even in the closet she does not say a lot of words. She does not do a lot of sounds either. For the past year I have been spending extra time with her in hopes she would "perk" up so to speak but she still sits for the most part like a lump on the log when out of the cage. Sometimes I think it has to do with having to many birds and not spending even more time with her. I have noticed a lot of the birds that people talk about how smart ect... they are, belong to people that only have one or two birds. I was reading an article about MBS and how having to many birds can hurt your bond with them. I just wonder if 4 pet birds is just two too many but just can't seem to justify giving any up. Maybe I worry to much. Joey seems fine with the attention he gets and is very playful when out of his cage. Topaz is the same way. But Que is so calm when out and does not play with her toys she has a lot. Mostly in the evening she plays But as you know she is not a morning bird. Am I over worried. Is she happy but just not as smart? Did I not encourage her enough when she was young cause of my fear of messing her up? And therefor messed her up? What can I do to bring her out of her shell more at this point in her life? Any ideas at all please.
-
No I have not. Joey my RLA won't poop when on me so I put him back a lot. I did not train this he came that way. lol I don't let birds sit on my shoulder much and when I do they only stay for like 5 minutes. I knew when I got my bird pooh was part of it. So I keep towels around for my lap when they are on my lap and I keep a lot of tissue near by. When I know they are going to pooh cause of the tail up thing I move them off me. Good luck

Since I have not done this and would never do this I found you an artical that might help you. But keep in mind some birds learn this so well they only go when someone tells them too. http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww71eii.htm

One wing? wow that vet needs to catch up with the times. No one does it that way anymore. I have heard others say greys should not have grates on the bottom because in the wild they well forage on the ground but that is in the wild where they wont be walking in pooh all day. But I can see where she gets that from. Sounds like four toys is perfect and the food you are offering (other then the seed I don't give mine any except as a treat.) Is great. While it was a little pricy I was thinking how great is it that you had a vet that well come out. Not that I would let one in my house. And I see her point about the litter box. If you are letting your grey out you don't want that litter box anywhere near so he won't get into it. None of mine have foot toys in their cages they do get to play with them when out cause all they do is poop all over them if they are in the cage. But the vet should have better people skills to be a pet. Sorry you had a very bad day but so glad it is done and now you know your baby is well. It is great that you are start to let her come out. I hope in time you two well build a good enough bond that next time you need to go to the vet you can go somewhere else and take the bird in. Nails are hard to do and not cut to much. I do my own for the most part but I keep something near by like flour incase I do to much.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/03/04 18:35
