1. So glad you all like this idea. Sure hope it picks up the interest.
2. BTW going to sticky this cause well that is one of my perks for being a mod. lol
3. Yes Judy I do need more to enter and vote. I have made a change in hopes to encourage more but if I get a low turn out again I'll have to stop doing these for a while. :side:
4. Couple new rules for this one. 1. Anyone can enter that has at least 50 post. 2. Must have at least 7 pictures before I well start the vote. Won't end the vote till I have at least 19 votes. (no end date cause of these requirements) 3. Must be a picture you took. 4. One entry per person. I talked to the powers that be and yes you can enter your grey. The theme for this one is your bird and his/her favorite toy. I well close this as soon as I have 10 pictures cause my pole won't let me do more. 1st prize 20 karma. 2nd prize 10 karma. 3rd prize 5 karma. Everyone who enters gets 2 and everyone that votes gets 2 also. So when I do the voting you'll need to post that you have done so. Here is a sample. This is Que and her favorite toy.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/02 01:55

6. Yes Ill post to this thread whenever she does an update. The perch that Topaz is on well be going. She could not perch at that age. lol She is going to try and make her look like she is in a wild quaker nest. Since she always does green grass and such this well be new for her. Hope it turns out. Honestly, even though she says she is not, so don't repete this. lol I think she is using one of those coping programs cause she did not even fill in the short tail Topaz had at that time from the other pictures I sent. /shrug Thats ok still better then anything I could do.
7. Here is the link you can see how its coming and make suggestions to her. It is done so I well unsticky it. http://theavianartist.wordpress.com/ Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/30 15:43

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/30 15:43
8. Gratz on the new bird not a sun but still a nice looking fellow.
9. Well ok this is closed. I had hoped for a LOT more votes but nine is all I think Ill get. Ill annouce the winner later this week. I well also be taking a short break for the contest.
10. Six votes? I got more replies to my roll call come on guys ONE more day.
11. The only thing I know to do is ignore the bad behavior and try to give rewards for the good behavior. I had a BCC once that would scream every time I got on the phone. So I would pick up the phone walk to his cage and when he yelled I would turn my back when he was sweet for a few minutes I would give him a treat. He stopped screaming in about 2 months. This habit can take months of consistency on your part to fix. If you are not consistent or keep switching how you handle the problem it well take even longer. Find a solution that makes since to you and then stick to it no matter what.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/03/23 22:42
12. There are a few breeders out there that sell eggs. I don't see anything "wrong" with it for the most part if they screen carefully. The person receiving the egg is taking a risk that they are not good eggs and well have to incubate and raise day one babies. Not something I would do cause it is so much more risky then raising a baby after it gets a few pin feathers. But I have heard of breeders swapping eggs/babies so as to get breeds that some of their customers have been looking for so it is not unheard of. I for one would never offer my blue quaker eggs to the general public but would consider it for some of the breeders I know.
13. I wish you luck with that. Love to see some pictures of your canary too.

Parrotlets??.

I have a p'let. He is a a blue. Not tame at this time. But I have been working with him. I did a lot of research and p'lets think they are amazons. Mine is very very aggressive right now cause it is that time of the year. But before he started that mess he was taking nibbles of my fingers and being very gentle about it. As a rule they tend to be very nippy. The one I had before DoodleBug (died when I had my Teflon accident see post on that if you have not already) He liked to be out but would get very nippy. He did better away from his cage. He also talked some. He said Pretty bird and what you doing in a mickey mouse voice. He and Doodlebug both were handfed but not trained to step up and were older so had not been fooled with in a while. If you get one try to find a newly weaned bird or one that you can play with before you bring it home. Hope that helps some. Good Luck
15. Wow thank you for posting this info. I had heard about this but no one seemed to know what was going on with the birds.

19. Closed I'll set up voting later this week.
20. I never clip my babies right away. (my quaker babies) I want them to learn to fly and then I do a gradual clip. Just a few feather then a few more a few days later. They are never shocked. And they never hit the floor like a rock.
21. Actually many bird behaviorist recommend you teach you bird to like being towel. It comes in handy for those vet visits. If they are use to it they don't get as upset and it is a good thing also if they get tangles up in a toy or hurt to be able to hold you scared hurt bird in a towel. Dandy my quaker loves his towel so much that when I open his door and I have a towel he well dive head first into in and then start to purr. lol So cute and has saved my hands, cause he bites all the time.
22. I would love to be able to handle my grey but no I won't push it and have her develop a biting habit. I do think with some more training I should be able to when I need too. Until then I well stick to the towel. She does let me towel her with some fuss and right now if I have to touch one of those places she don't want me to I just towel her and let her bite that. Greys are not cuddle birds in general so if you have one that enjoys that count yourself lucky. Great food for thought. Joe:cheer:
23. I just love BCC. That was a get vid. Thank you for sharing.
24. I sure hope you and your baby are happy and healthy.
25. I am making plans to "redo" mine again. None of the birds use the lower perches and I need some foraging area added somehow.
