  1. A clip well grow back and if it makes you feel better about it then yes clip him. Or you could go over there a few times before you go with him and see how he navigates in their home. I would not feel guilty. Some birds have to be clipped to be safe in our homes. I know it is nice to let them fly but since they are our pets and not wild it is up to us to do what is best for them to live in safety.
  2. Is it even legal to tranport a bird from there without it staying at a QT station for 6 months? Where do you live? No clue about how much to ship a parrot over seas but can't see anyone being able to do that without a full vet work up.
  3. I have no clue who this is. But shipping should not cost that much. I can ship a bird for 150.00. So if I was you I would not do this that alone makes it sound like a scam.
  4. Is there enough feather left to have this bad clip corrected? Clips that leave to much feather can poke and bother a bird. If you can get them shortened so they don't do that it should stop the problem. I have never had issues other then dropping like a rock when they are to short. In the mean time more baths should help a lot adding aloe vera juice to it. You can get that straight from a plant of from a health food store. Good luck
  5. I would not let her out till you can get her to step up and this can be done with her in the cage. First get her use to you and move her to where you spend most of your time. All my birds are in the living room cause I only sleep in my bedroom. Sit by her cage. Read to her, offer her treats threw the bars. Over time she should get as close as you can to you when this starts then I would start working with step ups. Have a lot of treats on hand when you do. It could take a while but at least she is young so not as long as an adult bird. Your my hero for taking her in. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck and keep us posted.
  6. Oh he was all over the place. lol And many of the pictures are not good cause he would not sit still. And I did do a few of Joey my RLA too. None of his were as nice. Thanks everyone for looking and your sweet replies. I too was really impressed with this photo. lol
  7. Ok you are voting for the best caption for this photo so I can make the banner. lol Unfortantly they made some changes to the voting program I am using and I had to paste it into a blog. So I made a new blog page just for it. I may even build on it. Add news for out group and more pictures that you allow me to use and any suggestions? Any ways click here http://greycontest.blogspot.com/ and go vote. Thank you
  8. Joey has liver issues and that is why his beak is so long. Yes he has toys with wood and leather. But he does not touch them. He just does not play with them. Not sure why. He is wild caught and about 26 years old. I have only had him for about 8 of those years. He is a very sweet bird. A green too is what I call him. Love to cuddle. Does not talk or play just sits around. He is the only bird I don't do wing clips on but he can not fly. Something happened to his left wing before I got him and before the breeder that had him before me got him. She had him for like 5 years. His beak has always been to long for at least 13 years.
  9. Yesterday What I was today when I went to put him in the travel cage to take to vet for trim.(picture not as clear cause it is the wrong time of day for pictures. lol)
  10. Yep it is Topaz. I bought the props for 6 bucks and had the basket in my closet. I did not have to change a thing. All I did was crop and post. lol Nope not a professional I took 77 pictures and only had like 4 good ones. lol Also it seems the late afternoon sun threw my front glass door works best. Morning sun does not look as nice nor do the pictures come out as clear.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/30 15:52
  11. Sorry I have been away. About three weeks ago I messed up my back and could not sit at my desk. Then last weekend I could not swallow and sent 12 hours in the ER tring to figure out what was wrong. I can swallow again but they have no clue and set me up for an appointment for a GI doctor. They did put a light down my throat but found nothing. They also gave me a script for a drug I can't afford but I did find something over the counter that they use to give instead of Nexium so using that instead. I am much better so plan to be around again and a new contest well start in a few days too so keep an eye out for it.
  12. I'll get this set up later today. Why is there a youtube link in this thread? lol<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/30 21:28
  13. Yes I did this. Can you believe it? lol
  14. I try really hard not to do that on the internet. I keep telling myself "something got lost between the lines" and re read things over and over. Sometimes no matter how you read it thought ti comes out all wrong. lol But ya most people do not cook for thier birds or buy fresh veggies/fruit for them either. But this group tends to do that more then most.
  15. I am just saying all birds deserve the same diet an Ekkie gets and all of mine do. Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/13 07:31 Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/13 07:32<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/13 12:14
  16. Ya saw that TV show too. Funny looking and funny to boot. lol
  17. I have to laugh at the "specail" diet people keep saying Ekkie's need. All birds need to be on that diet. All of mine are. lol
  18. Stop letting them near each other period. Some birds well just never like each other. Let each have their own out time. Clip wings if you have too for the safety of your pets. Good Luck
  19. Ok you could just use the 100 percent juice and spray him everyday.
  20. I so hate having to put dogs to sleep. I always second guess if it is time or not. But Thor my wolf is in pain the last few months. I can lessen it but can't seem to get rid of it. So my husband and I have been talking about it and thinking about it for the last two week and in the next few days we well be helping him cross over. He is a large dog and over 8 years old which is on the old side for most large dogs. We are now worrying about the other yard dog Lab/retriever mix and if she well adjust to being alone. She only 5 and been with Thor since she was 8 weeks old. We'll need to make extra effect to go out side with her. Wish she could come inside but she it crazy. Not bad crazy but happy crazy and way to much energy to stay in he house. Goodbye Thor we were so honored to be allowed to share your short life with you.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/04/07 02:15
  21. No you feed them the red palm oil you don't put it on them. Sorry didn't realize that would not be a given.
  22. Ok for my plucker the toy I use something a lot like this http://www.parrotsupercenter.com/products/Bird_Toys/Photo/Tornado-Image.htm the first one had nothing but rope and the second one had rope and bead and cost me 32 bucks the one he has now has nothing but soft cloth. It don't seem to matter as long as something like that is in his cage he don't have big holes in his skin. He still plucks but it has slown way down.
  23. Ok but did they run any blood work? There are many things other then habit that make a bird pluck. My plucker plucks cause he is stressed all the time and had five home before I got him. And now is not right in the head. Not tring to be funny but the vet even suggested birdy Prozac. Anyway he well always pluck. But I did over 400 dollars in blood work first to rule out anything else that might cause the plucking. For the most part I can keep him from plucking with a special toy that I can not remove from the cage. Took a few toys to find one that would work. However he still plucks every spring. His feathers well never grow back and he always plucks a new spot that has feathers but at least he no longer takes out chunks of skin.
