It is good for 6 months, Beccy, Josey didn't talk much until she was around 1 year of age. Now she is saying a lot of things, carries on a conversation with my hubby sometimes.
-
He looks to me to be in fine shape, very healthy looking and a very good setup there for him to sit and eat, until he decides to chew up the table, opps.
-
What a cute graphic, LovemyGreys, you and Tari are so talented, a wonderful way to welcome new members.
-
Thanks, Imran, for the update, glad he is eating and doing better, but that vet visit is still a must do for him. Be sure to update us after the vet visit, we do care about your bird and you also.
-
I feed mine some egg occasionally, but I agree it is a little cannibalistic if you think about it.
-
Never punish, but use positive reinforcement. Like Tari said, you can use the earthquake method, but also tell him no in a different tone of voice and turn your back on him. Then reward him for the behavior you desire. Removing food accomplishes nothing but having a hungry bird, you could forget to put it back like Tari said and he would go hungry. Sometimes the independence in them shows up as not wanting you to touch them occasionally, so respect that, we sometimes feel that way ourselves.
-
Oh, he'll talk allright, just give him a little time, it starts out as jibberish at first then the real words come. My Josey was around 1 year of age before she really talked, but she could do a mean wolf whistle. She still does it but the words are coming in clearer. Just be patient and you will be rewarded with all kinds of words, just be careful of what you say if you don't want it repeated, if you know what I mean.

Well one source is local vets especially avian vets, they may know of local breeders in your area. Also if there are any bird clubs or rescue organizations they may be of help to you too. Let us know if you find out anything, maybe we can come up with some other ideas.
-
Tari and her quakers, yes I love them too, and Tari has a real cutie in Topaz.
-
That is so sad, Zooky, but it sounds like you do what you have to to make him comfortable and that is what counts. With your love and devotion, I know he feels that from you and he is perfect in your eyes. I'll just bet you treat him like a king and he could not be in better hands than yours. I guess he cannot climb the bars so it makes sense to keep him in something else, softer for his feet. I assume he was born that way or was it from some kind of freak accident? Just curious, it helps to know you and Mende better.
-
I saw the pictures of Mende, very nice grey. Have faith, you will conquer this and welcome again, looking forward to hearing stories about Mende.
-
I am so excited for you, you will get one for sure this time. You have fought a hard road but it is almost at the end. Let us know when you do get that grey, it will be the best day of your life, I am sure.
-
Josey didn't really start to talk until she got close to the year old mark, it just takes time and they don't always repeat what you try to teach them to say, but maybe something you only said once or twice. The tone of voice has a lot to do with it, they pick up on the excitement level of it. Josey will carry on conversations with my hubby, it is so funny to hear. I just love her to death.

Well thanks, guys and dolls, for the admiration you have shown me here, I don't really deserve it, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love each and every one of you here, whether you just joined or were here from the beginning. I didn't achieve this goal by keeping my mouth shut, I try to give good advice but a lot of times it comes out as just plain funny, I believe having fun is what makes us better individuals. I like being able to put a smile on your face even if I can't always wear one myself, and if I am not allowed to have a little fun, then what is the point. BTW Josh, I love you to pieces too, but that is the subject of another thread, right, sweetie. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hello, Zooky, and welcome to the family, glad you joined and you do have some animals there don't you, no wonder you have a nickname that stuck. I commend you for giving that grey a home, not everyone would want one with a deformity but it shows a lot about you that you did. They need our love and attention the same as all the others. If you have any photos of your grey you want to post please do, we love photos. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask, we will do our best to answer them for you.

No Such Thing As A Newbie Here
judygram replied to CeasarsDad's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Thats right, once you join, you are family, and we will treat you as such. We all like to think of ourselves as equals here, we all have something to contribute and we all can learn from one another. -
Thats wonderful, Heather, she was talking early, Josey did not start until much later, but now she picks up new words quickly, too.
-
I disagree, Josh, I am the youngest of 11 children and the smartest by far, and I am not bragging either. :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I don't know much about the eclectus, except that it is one bird you can tell the sex of without a DNA test. And they are beautiful birds, no doubting that.
-
When you take Meeka to the vet, he will be able to tell you whether or not she is a Cag or a Tag and might know about her being a hybrid. Being that your GF said they were a darker, I'm guessing a Tag. I'm sorry to hear that you are color blind, for they do have a beautiful red tail but she is beautiful to you in any case. Thanks for the update.

Hello, Fourtrap, and welcome to the family, we are glad you joined and looking forward to hearing more about Bailey and Simon. You could probably give us some advice since you have a juvenile and a mature grey. My you do have a lot of birds, and a nice variety of them as well. I also have a sun conure, Sunny, and she is a delight to have, as well you should know. Please post some pictures if you have them, we have an other birds topic where you can post pics of the ones besides the grey.B)

It is great to hear you are home now and back with Buddy and the dogs. They missed you so much and I know you missed them too, but isn't it great to come home and have them welcome you home. Steve did an excellent job of keeping us informed and I think he handled Buddy and the dogs the best he could, he is a good man, Mandi, and you are lucky to have him. Like I said before, you do exactly what your doctor says do, so you can get back on your feet, and we look forward to hearing more stories of the life and times of Buddy, your grey. Take care. BTW, CD loves everyone here on the forum, especially the women, so enjoy.

Well congrats, Nooey, on bringing home the new baby. I know you are in heaven now and I am glad it went well for you. Please post some pictures when you get a chance so we can gush over your new little Mojo. Thanks for updating us on his homecoming.

I think everyone has said it all already, some kind of balance has to be achieved here or this site will suffer. And no one wants their post removed or deleted but if it comes to that, then it does. Celery, I wish you would not take offense to this new directive of ours, we are only doing what we think is best for the site. You have been a valuable member here and I and the rest of us would hate to see you leave but it changes nothing. I for one should be the one to be offended as I am guilty of going off topic more times than I can remember and I also am fond of one or two line posts that are funny to me. But in the interest of this site with all the new members lately this is getting more out of control. Threads get so long that the information in them gets lost in all the extra baggage it picks up. We want a site that is helpful for anyone with a grey to be able to come to and get information easily and quickly, but we also love to chat and have a little fun in the process. Striking that balance is what we are after and if we step on a few toes then we are truly sorry for that but the health of the site comes first.

Certainly not by that hunk, he can hog all he wants.
