  1. Yes that is scary, I saw a photo in Bird Talk magazine, of a bird that another bird had ripped its beak off and it was not a pretty sight, in fact I was sick to my stomach after I saw that. It survived but it has to be spoon or syringe fed since it cannot handle foods typically eaten.
  2. This is so true, what Tari said about the quarantee period, you would not want your bird to pick anything up from the amazon or vice versa. And even if they were in the same room, you cannot allow them to get near each other, for one could hurt the other before you knew what was going on, I wouldn't want to take the risk. It is nice of you to be able to take care of a friend's bird when they go away and I hope she can do the same for you to return the favor.
  3. But you live so long that you blow up into a huge blimp from all the fat in the ice cream, and your arteries clog up and you suffer a heart attack and perish. I wish I had a dollar for every post in this entire forum.
  4. But the sub has a nuke meltdown and you sink to the bottom of the ocean, never to be seen again. I wish I was an Oscar Meyer wiener, so everyone would be in love with me.
  5. Hello, Kiwibarb, and welcome to the forum, glad you joined and I know you will love it here. Maybe you can change her name to Beccy, that would still sound similar. Sorry she was egg bound, I think about that possibility too as I have a female. Maybe she will talk more now that you two are getting along better, glad she is not biting you now, but time will tell. Post a picture of her if you have one, we love to see pics of the greys.
  6. Thats so funny, I would have to crack up if Josey said that.
  7. Yes it is, he likes your daughter, and put the perches or whatever you get for him to be on when out of the cage, in the rooms where you all are, they like to be part of the flock and right in on the action, makes them feel more at home. He needs to be included in more goings on around the house. I think that will help tremendously.
  8. This is great that Tari is willing to go check this breeder out for you Beckymac, now that says something about the members here, we are willing to help in any way we can. You go girl.
  9. Very good Toni. Poof, your wish is granted, but the balloon runs out of helium and guess what, the basket falls with you in it. I wish I could be young again.
  10. From your posts I am assuming that the plucking started after the death of your sister, and he is probably reacting to that, he misses her, and she lavished a lot of attention on him. He needs more time out of the cage and more attention to help him stop this cycle of plucking. Greys do require a certain amount of daily attention, you cannot stick them in a cage and expect all to be well with them. Usually when they go thru a molt, they lose more feathers than usual but not all of them at once, like Dan stated, they have to be able to fly if they were in their natural habitat. Try these suggestions and see what happens, but whatever does it will take time and patience, this will be a slow and gradual process. Be sure to keep us updated as to how it goes with Kenworth.
  11. Boy, you really know how to corrupt a dream, Dan. But when you go to Antarctica, you forget your down parka and you freeze to death looking for the penquins. I wish I could swim like a fish, fly like an eagle and run like the wind.
  12. Very good advice, Dan, I purchased my cage from a bird fair and got it cheaper than from other sources.
  13. But a huge mudslide takes you out to sea and that coffee with it. I wish I was on that island, I can't seem to stay away from that island with that six foot hunk of a man on it.
  14. But your huge yacht hits a coral reef and breaks apart, leaving you, Kim and Dayo floating around on flotsom, and Dayo flies away. I wish I was a genie and could grant wishes.
  15. But you find that space travel is not suitable for greys so you have to leave Dayo behind and it breaks both your hearts. I wish everyone here on this forum could get along and be happy for ever and ever.

    clever bird!

Why wait, Dan, get started now, Dayo is smart, he can learn now.
  17. Well, Dan, you just do that, I'll bet Dayo will eat it right up, you don't have to tell him that he came from an egg, what he doesn't know won't hurt him, I say.
  18. But you don't remember because you have amnesia and you don't even remember who you are. I wish I knew how to play the piano.
  19. Welcome, Saraj, to the family, glad you joined, but while you are here, why don't you tell us a little about yourself. Do you have a grey? How old is it and how long have you owned it? This site looks at first glance to be difficult but it really is not and I speak from experience, as I was once in your shoes. But take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the features and when you are comfortable with them, tell us more. Start a new thread when you are ready to ask us that "burning" question, I am a little curious of what this may be, so don't keep us in suspense too long.
  20. But the back of the whale is slippery and the whale moves around so quickly that you slide off and a shark comes by and spots lunch, which is you, and I don't have to spell it out do I, we all know what is next. I wish I was back on that tropical island with a handsome hunk by my side.
  21. I agree with Tari, be very careful with the ferrets, never, ever have them out of their cages at the same time, even supervised.

    Asthma

I am so sorry to hear this, Readz, and I know this is an agonizing decision you must make, but please try the air filtration system first to see if that will help alleviate the problem. I hate to see you have to give your grey up, I know I would do anything to try and keep mine if I were in your situation. We do have a thread that deals with air cleaners and such, please check it out first before you commit to giving the bird up. This would break my heart and I feel for you right now, but try this first and let us know what you do decide to do.
  23. Well they can just ship him off to VA, and I'll take it from there.
  24. I would allow him a little more out of cage time, when you are at home to supervise, maybe a couple of hours more would be good. Check the feathers you do find and see if the shaft has been chewed off or the whole shaft is intact, if it is intact then he is not plucking. They usually chew them off but the smaller more downey ones he might be pulling out. The downey feathers you see might be he is going thru a molt. I would just see how things go and maybe he won't pluck anymore. Wonderful he is talking and is pretty active, that is always good news. Keep up the good work with him and keep us posted as to any new developments. Thanks for the update.

    clever bird!

So am I, way to go Beccy, I knew you could do it, I will have to try this myself. I don't work with Josey enough, not enough time in the day, since I work full time and then spend hours here every day.
