  1. Its really not a good idea to leave your new bird so early in the relationship, but if it cannot be avoided then you have no choice. They need this time to bond with you and set up the trust you want to build with them. Also so early on like this, the bird may possibly bond with whomever is taking care of it while you are away. I doubt it will cause stress for the bird, especially if the person or persons taking care of it will be around some for it to get used to them before you leave. I guess it is not possible for the breeder or whoever you are getting it from to keep it until you return, that is what I would suggest. Maybe some of the other members have some other ideas, but for the first year it is best for you to be around every day for the bond and trust to be properly set, but then again it may not matter at all. I notice this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and this new grey you are getting.
  2. But you aren't old enough to drink, drive, or vote, so you join a gang and wind up in prison for a long time. I wish I could heal the sick.
  3. That was a little more detail than I really needed, Dan, but thanks, I think, for the information.
  4. Well my kids are gone and I work full time, but I don't have time to play, I am too busy posting here, I didn't get 2600+ posts by playing games. But to each their own, if you enjoy playing them by all means do it.
  5. But the grass even though it never needs cutting, needs no water or fertilizer, is so hard you cannot stand to walk on it. I wish I could have baby soft skin.
  6. But all the good books are written in braille and you cannot read it. I wish I had a dream that would come true.
  7. Thanks for that link, Trina, it could turn out to be very helpful for greylover.
  8. I doubt it is a doctored photo, but with computers nowadays I guess anything is possible. I think it is just a genetic mutation, like the albinos.
  9. Yes, I would suggest you get the harness so you don't lose any more birds, I would have been devastated as you were. Beckett was noisy for a reason, he needed more attention than he was getting, but better his being noisy than plucking himself as some do. Thanks for sharing a little more about yourself, it helps us understand each other better.
  10. But they decide to shred up all the files and papers on the boss's desk and you get fired. I wish I could find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
  11. Thank you Kiwibarb, I was going to let my Josey play in cupboards but maybe not now after the trouble you had and I have a female too.
  12. I agree, lovemygreys, with 3 greys it would be very difficult next to impossible to take them out on harnesses and leashes, an aviary would be just the thing.
  13. Well that is one thing I always seem to have on the couch is newspapers, but I still use a trash can but if that is not handy, there is the paper.
  14. Be sure to let us know if you ever get any babies out of your greys, I would be curious to know.
  15. Welcome to the family, Dennis, we are glad you joined and looking forward to hearing stories about your life with Woody, and you should have some since she is 14 years old. I'll bet you could give us advice. Post some pictures of Woody if you have them, we love photos here.
  16. The hanging gym that Dblhelix has up, you can get a spacer to put on them that the bird would be unable to climb up to get to the ceiling. Joe, I look forward to seeing the end product, but take your time in this heat, wouldn't want you to keel over from heat exhaustion.

    chewing

I don't think that is the problem as her bird is still too young for that, but thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like Beckett was chewing everything in sight and I guess when they reach sexual maturity that is a problem in itself, but you seem to have handled it well.
  18. Sue, that name ChaChi sounds familiar, it was the name of one of the characters on Happy Days, if I remember correctly, it was a good looking guy, yummy.
  19. I'm so jealous of all these amazing graphics, and welcome, Jlbatch, to the family, so glad you joined.
  20. Have you checked with local vets offices and bird clubs, they may know if there is any in your area. Expand your search area for the longest possible locality you would be willing to travel to.
  21. It is isn't it, very unique, just like the albino animals you see occasionally, very pretty with pink eyes.
  22. But they wean so fast, they are gone to new homes already and you are heartbroken for you never see them again. I wish I could make a rainbow appear every day.
  23. I agree with Beccy, a visit to the vet is first to rule out anything physical, then go thru the list of possibilities that Lovemygreys listed. Be sure to let us know what you find out.
  24. I can't help you as I live in VA, but have you tried to google parrot rescue to find if any are anywhere around you? I'm sure you have but thought I would mention it anyway.
