  1. It is probably going to take a little time for Buddy to feel really comfortable in your home if he was passed around several times, he does not know where his real home is yet. I think you are doing all the right things, just be patient with him and soon he will come to trust you and allow you to interact with him more. Post a few pictures of Buddy if you have them, we love pictures here. And keep us informed as to how it is going with Buddy. Remember, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, we will be glad to answer any and all the best we can.
  2. I don't want your sister, Josh, but can I take bids on you instead?{Love-0002006D}
  3. Dan, I am one who uses the palm oil, I put a little of it in Josey's morning oatmeal and baby food breakfast. She eats it right up and I give a little of it to my sun conure, she eats it up too. I don't know about the plucking but I think it helps the feathers some.
  4. Makena wrote: So true, Makena, and mother nature can be cruel. You can add some bottled water to that kit and change it out from time to time as the date on it expires. we should all probably keep something like this on hand at all times, you never know what is going to happen. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
  5. You are right, Celery, and it has more to do with the tone of voice that makes it more appealing to repeat those words. Of course, I didn't mean to imply that maybe they were teaching him to swear, but if a swear word is uttered in their presence they are likely to pick it up and use it.
  6. You keep at it Melissa, and one day you will be able to touch Talon all over her body, I know you can, I have faith in you.
  7. Now lets everyone have a drink.{Communicate-000200D5}
  8. If your grey is right at 1 year old, it may be too soon for him to talk, some don't talk until later, but just talk to him in a normal voice, have conversations with him and eventually he will start to talk. Usually they start out with jibberish, no discernable words and then they get plainer in the speech. And a few greys won't ever talk, but most do so more than likely yours will too. Just be careful of what you do say, never use words you don't want repeated and be prepared for them to mimic other sounds in the home, like the phone ringing, microwave bleeping or maybe your laugh. Josey mimics my laugh and it is funny to hear it from her beak, sounds just like me, only better.:laugh:
  9. She learnt from the best, Dan, she certainly has talent. Melissa, you take good pictures, and the subject matter helps too, I might add.
  10. But you find that you have shriveled up so much from the old age that you dry up and blow away. I wish I had Prince Charming as my husband and I lived in a castle nestled in a garden of eden.
  11. Now that has some lovely contrasting colors, Percysmum, a very beautiful bird. And so is yours, Josh, your bird is very lovely to look at as is you. Don't stay away as long next time, we miss you, at least I do.:blush:
  12. Well you got a right to be, Celery, he is fascinating, and you are getting more converts every day. Now back to the eggs, rolling them on a hard surface does make them easier to peel, now that someone else mentions it, thanks Lidia.:silly:
  13. Whatever happens to them if caught is better than they would get if I personally caught them, if you catch my drift.:evil:
  14. Well I hate to say this, but where did she learn to swear, if you don't want her using swear words, then you will have to make sure she does not hear those words anymore. Greys will talk when they are ready, you cannot force them to talk, just talk normally around her and when she is ready she will talk, repeating what you say, just be sure what you say is what you don't mind her repeating.
  15. You have to remember who is the parent and who is the child, and then you have it made. You do indeed need to be in control and I think things will settle down now that you have established that. They hold one foot up to rest it and yes that is a sign of something good, they feel content especially if they are going to sleep. We look forward to seeing pictures of your birds, especially if it has red feathers other than the tail, you have a red factor grey.
  16. Awww, Josh, he looks to be having a ball, and I know you are enjoying your little bundle of feathers. Thanks for sharing this with us and don't stay away for so long from now on. We miss you.

    chewing

    Beccy, maybe you could offer him some wooden toys he can chew up, he seems to be craving the destruction of wooden things. Even chunks of wood, anything to try to focus his attention on something other than the furniture. I know this is frustrating for you and especially so if it started before you left. Also try telling him no and removing him to another location to try to break the habit.
  18. Dan, don't sell yourself short, you have contributed much to this forum, it matters less how long you have been here, you have a vast knowledge of a wide variety of topics and you have said lots. Its not so much the quanity but the quality of what you say and what you say is excellent.
  19. I cover Josey every night, she is in the family room with the TV on and all, but once I cover her I don't hear anything more out of her. I think she goes to sleep even with the noise. She is used to it by now and yours can adapt too.
  20. Some greys are a little more leary of touching them a lot, some here on the forum can touch theirs all over and some can't touch any more than you can on yours. Give it more time and take it slowly and maybe eventually he will allow you to touch him on the wings and such. Don't push or force anything, let him tell you when he is ready.
  21. This is the BEST forum on the internet besides being the best grey forum and we are glad you joined us here. The members here are what makes this forum what it is and if it makes you feel that way then we have accomplished our goal. :) :) :) :) :)
  22. I knew that vinegar would come into play somewhere, maybe not for ease of peeling egg shells but it is so versatile you can use it for many, many things, it has a 1001 uses.:laugh:
  23. The best way to try to stop her is to distract her from it with something else, like a toy perhaps. My Josey will try that too, and that is what I do to her, works very well. But you can continue with the beak shaking if she enjoys it, make like a little game of it if you wish, some greys won't allow that kind of touching.
  24. I'm glad to hear that Mirek is all better now, you took great care of him. Sounds like he is beginning to attempt speech, I know you are excited about that, you will hear more and more in the coming weeks and months. He will delight you with all kinds of words soon. Thanks for updating us on Mirek, we know you are busy but we like to know that our flock is ok.
  25. Well that is one thing we can all agree on, we love to see pictures here, especially of our greys, but even of other birds we have. I love them all, can't you tell. I'm sure Jordane is in excellent hands, you care about your grey very much, and we care about you and your grey, we are like that here on this forum. You won't find a better bunch of people on a forum than right here.
