  1. Yes I think we all will learn from this story, sometimes it takes something like this to make us all aware of the dangers even in the home for our birds. My heart goes out for them and I will keep them in my prayers. So very sad and tragic.
  2. Aw, Brenda, that is so sad about the toes, but I know you will love it all the same. I know you can hardly wait to bring it home, but it won't be long now. And you too Toni, yours will be home shortly too, I am so happy for the both of you, it won't be long now.
  3. Congratulations, Heather, lovely photo and now you have a special banner to display on all your posts.
  4. But the avian flu mutates into a deadly virus that wipes out all birds on the face of the earth. I wish for everlasting peace.
  5. Oh we'll have you, Lovemygreys, you are welcome to stay forever, we need more members like you, who want to participate in the threads and share information. I have heard that about the vacuum cleaner sound mimics the sounds of running water and that makes them want to bathe when they hear it. But my Josey does not like the vacuum, I have to remove her from the room I am using it in, but my sun conure starts to bathe while its running.
  6. Hey, I could wear a lot of my hubby's camo clothes, it would be invisible on them.{Feel-good-0002006E}
  7. That is one wicked looking grey, with so much red and like Talon said, it is orangeish red, but beautiful in its own right. I've never seen one with that much red, very, very unusual.
  8. Nice pictures and a nice looking grey. As far as taking blood for a full workup at the vet's office they take it out of a vein in the neck, they need more than they can get from a nail clip. I don't see a problem with the contact at the pet store, besides it has probably helped to socialize it to have seen many people. The kind of thing he is doing with his beak when grabbing you is beaking and no he is not biting you, he is just checking you out, especially if he is using his tongue. They use their beak like we would one of our hands, to check out things. Sounds like you are very happy with this bird and are anxious to bring him home. Let us know when you do get to bring him home, we want an update then.
  9. Lovely pictures of the quakers in the wilds of New York. They certainly do look healthy to have to fend for themselves, but of course a lot of people probably put out food for them. Thanks for sharing these with us, I may never get to see them like that.
  10. They usually take blood from a nail clip for a DNA test but I guess from the feather would work also.
  11. Now I don't really know the reason why and I am sure one of the members knows, but it is ok to feed them some yogurt, even good for them in small amounts. Maybe it has something to do with the live cultures, I am not sure.
  12. Well it has been almost 40 years for me so yes you are right, I don't need or want his approval. Besides he knows if he says anything, I will do it anyway just for spite.:silly:
  13. {Feel-good-0002006E} I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall, thanks again for a hearty laugh, maybe next time you will check your clothing before leaving the house.
  14. Well tell him he is so full of it, when I got home yesterday with my new tattoo and showed it to him, he just shook his head, he did not even know I was going to get it. What I do is my business and if I want to get one or two I will. I told him I was planning on getting a couple more. LOL
  15. But the law of physics is disrupted by a group of aliens and the atmosphere will no longer generate electricity, hence your car dies and won't revive. I want to be loved unconditionally for the rest of my life.
  16. You took her to a restaurant, I didn't think that was allowed. Well good for you, and I am glad she enjoyed herself. As far as the attention, must not have been too many bird fans around, because it would certainly have caught my attention if I was nearby. I would like to be able to do that with Josey, but we live out in the country and it is a good trip to go into town and she maybe couldn't go everywhere we need to go and we have to combine several errands into one because of the high gas prices. But I would love to do that, be good socialization for her too.
  17. One note of warning, give the cheese sparingly, they do not handle the dairy very well, it should be an occasional treat, not a daily staple.
  18. Oh my, CD, that is an awe inspiring event, and I can see how it could change anyone's life for the better, you are so right. I did not know you then, but I know you now and I can truthfully say I know in all my heart that you are a changed person today. The love and compassion you have shown for all the members here is evident throughout this forum. This inspirational moment of yours should serve to remind all of us of how lucky we really are, for we could be a lot worse off. Thank God for what you are, an inspiration to us all.
  19. I agree, Lidia, I give Josey small pieces of chicken and other meats on almost a daily basis, and of course the little bits of cheese, of which she goes nuts for. I would be skepical of the dehydrated chicken, too, as fresh is always best.
  20. Yes, Geoff, a vet visit is a must, you don't want to take the chance of him losing his eyesight, and don't delay.
  21. Now if you can capture a picture of her chasing that pit bull around, it would be a sight to see. On the stepping up thing, do you pull back when she bites or goes to bite you on trying to get her to step on your hand, if so that is your problem. I am glad you got the opportunity to get your grey and she is queen, I'm sure, and most rescues are very careful of prospective new adoptees so don't hold it against them, I suspect they errored on the side of caution.
  22. And you knows better than CD, he is THE man here. I like that idea too, and thanks Nooey for the suggestion.
  23. Hello, Deamarhut, and welcome to the family, we are glad you joined and looking forward to hearing more about your grey. I assume the grey came to you as the previous owner could not keep him anymore. Were they the original owners and had him ever since he was a baby? I am surprised he was never taught to step up and he is 17 years old, how did they manage that. You will need to teach him to step up and he can learn to do that. We have a lot of threads here that deal with all aspects of the care, feeding and training greys. You need to skim thru them for the ones you need, and read them, you will find a lot of good information you need to know. If you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask, we will be more than happy to answer the best we can. If you have a photo of him you want to post, please do so, we love to look at each other's greys.
  24. My gosh, Trina, what do you think we are, a bunch of rocket scientists? Maybe some of the members can figure this out but not me, my little ole brain cannot handle anything remotely complicated like this. This one is for the nerds.
  25. To Celery, the Puget Sound swells enormously and raises up into the mountains and washes your cabin away. To Tari, but the lower gas prices causes people to drive too much and the gas supply dries up. I want to be forgiven for all my sins.
