Hello, from the freezing north east!
judygram replied to Tash13's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
I wondered about cuss words, should have figured he would have picked them up also, he was around men and that is enough to do it. I think in time he will say them less and less, maybe never forget them completely but lessen the frequency perhaps. It must be a hoot though to hear the motorcycle sounds from a bird. -
Congrats Ccilia on teaching Churchill some tricks, maybe it will inspire others to try the same.
-
Hello and welcome to the family, Mike, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Jocko and Timber. My you have a grey that is at least 25 years old, that is probably the oldest one on the forum right now, and you just acquired another one, thats great. I know you have some stories you could tell us about the years you have had Jocko, maybe you can share some of them with us sometime. Not that you need it, but we have many threads on various topics with lots of useful information and you can ask us any questions you may have. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Jocko and Timber that you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

Ah it does sound cozy with a big wood stove and heat in the floors and I would be watching out the window at the falling snow also.
-
I am glad you decided to take him to see a vet, Stuaz, and please keep us updated on him.
-
Well Mervyn, I hope your grey is going to be ok, I know avian vets are hard to come by there where you are. Siobhan, that would be a good profession for your kids to get into, lord only knows we need more avian vets and not just in your country but everywhere.

Heather if you look at my avatar, you see my license plate says Josey, that is the name of my grey and no gram is not my last name, it stands for grandma, I have 3 grandkids. I love the last pictures you added, especially Harrison throwing the jacks.
-
Yes it is Heather, small steps and soon she will be enjoying it immensely and I love your new avatar, such a lovely pose of Harrison, and it shows off her pretty red tail very nicely.
-
Joe is always good for a laugh or two, but they bite us to warn us of what they perceive as danger to us, they love us therefore they bite us, makes perfect sense to me.  :silly:   Sorry you got bit Dan, but Dayo loves his Daddy:kiss:
-
Thanks Terri for sharing that about the grey in Florida that yells "Help, help call 911" when the groomer comes, that was so funny and so is your story of Bella barking like a dog. Yes please, lets hear more stories like this.......:woohoo:
-
Glad to hear it was a heavy molt, but the aloe juice is great for them.
-
My Josey does this many times, as do lots of the other members greys, and it looks like a chicken scratching and sometimes it is when she is on her playtop also. It usually means she wants to come off it and come to me but Pepper may have something else in mind when he does it. I wouldn't worry about it but I know it can get annoying when it continues on and on.
-
Yes Tasha, impatience could be your downfall, since this is an older bird and set in his ways, it will take lots of time to build that trust that is necessary for him to be able to accept much of any affection from you. But most do enjoy neck scratches so you might try asking him if he wants his neck scratched and see if there is any response to that. This is going to take time with him being in a new home when before the only home he knew was a motorcycle shop, so go easy and slow.

Awww he is so cute, and Hershey is a good name, I just love bunnies and he does resemble a lion in the face from the second picture. Tell your daughter thanks for sharing her bunny with us.

Hello and welcome to the family, Tasha, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Mojo, and that is such a cute name. I can imagine that Mojo makes all those motorcycle sounds and it is not heaven to your ears but I think in time he will do them less and less since he does not hear them anymore, lets hope this is the case for your sake. Mojo will make a great pet and companion but it will take time since he is around 12 years old but he certainly can still learn and in time with your love and attention he will blossom into a trusting friend. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful and helpful information and if you have specific questions feel free to ask anything, we will do our best to answer and help you in any way we can. If you have a picture of Mojo you would like to share with us we would love to see him. -
Tash don't take this the wrong way, but you must not have researched greys much before adopting this Tag, for greys are not known to be cuddly, a few will but most are not. Some are more cuddly when they are babies but when they mature they become more independent. You said you recently adopted him but it takes time to gain the trust of a mature grey that has lived it's life with someone else. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and this grey of yours.

Hello and welcome to the family, Richard, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Pepper. So Pepper is a celebrity, how nice to have been featured in People magazine and from the picture you shared with us, she is a beauty for sure. Thats so cute that she calls you two by name, how sweet is that to come home and be greeted by her, sounds like you have a wonderful relationship with Pepper and that lovely little Charlie. I doubt you need it, but read thru our many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you do have specific questions just ask and we will do our best to answer and help you in any way we can.

Thanks Jimmy for sharing more photos of Cosmo and you too, you pretty young thing.
-
I would just leave it where Harrison can see it and get used to it, she will come to play on it in time, you know that greys are very leery of anything new and they have to get used to it. Looks like a good stand, I have one of the tabletop ones and use it in the kitchen.
-
Thats just a little too cold for me and I know it gets worse, right, Alaska is a beautiful place to visit but not sure whether I could live there. For Mazy's sake I hope she does not get sick, would be a long cold trip to see the vet.
-
Greys are lactose intolerant, so no milk or milk products but a little cheese every now and then does no harm.
-
Jimmy you let us know if you do get a job there, I would like you to educate them on the proper handling and treatment of their birds.
-
I am familiar with the term "cabin fever" that everyone refers to in the winter time when they are closed up in the house and it is because the sun isn't out much and the extra light is good for that.
-
The yams, green beans and kidney beans are all good for her but go easy on the cheese, most seem to love cheese and mine is no exception but just a little now and then and not every day.

Hello Stuaz, my first suggestion is take him to see an avian vet, especially if he hasn't seen one in a while, something may be wrong with him. Then after that we will try to figure out what has happened to change your bird's disposition. You said you have had him for 6 years, have you had him since he was a baby, in other words is he about 6 years old? If so he may be just coming into sexual maturity and that may have something to do with it. I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and this grey of yours.
