1. Hello and welcome to the family, Coff73ee, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Katie. I am so glad you could take in this grey and give it a good home, her last home and you share that home with some cockatiels and a conure. Sounds like a good flock of birds and they keep you busy I'm sure. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and please just ask any specific questions you may have. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Katie that you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

grape skin toxic?

Since Josey does not seem to care for grapes I haven't observed her eating them and peeling the skin but I know both her and my sun conure will eat the inside out of a kernal of corn and leave the husks, and they seem to do it so effortlessly, funny little buggers.
3. Rescueing a bird can be a rewarding experience for the right owner and lots of times a rescue does come with baggage but if you really want one I wouldn't ignore the possibility that there is one available. With the proper care, attention and love a rehomed grey can be a very good decision, just might take a little longer to gain its trust and bond with it. Some of our member's grey are resuces and rehomed greys and they will tell you they are excellent companions.
4. Congrats on being able to bring him home and glad that it is going well for now. Don't worry about not being able to touch him much, a lot of them are that way but it will take time to gain his trust so give him lots of time. I hope he gets a clean bill of health at the vet's today and please let us know how that goes and post those pictures soon, I can't wait to see Ajax.B)
5. Dan is right, something is not right here and you need to take Kimi to see an avian vet, and since you live in SA it will be difficult to find one but don't give up, he needs to be evaluated right away.
6. I think taking Sassy to see an avian vet is the best thing you can do right now, he/she would have the best idea of what is going on and maybe be able to come up with the solution. Do you have any avian vets anywhere around you, you really need someone who is very knowledgeable about birds or they won't be of much help. Do this and let us know what you find out.

grape skin toxic?

Josey does not care much for grapes, but she does go nuts over cheese and so does my sun conure. Josey will usually not have much to do with my hubby but if he has the bag of cheese out she will do most anything to get that cheese.
8. Hello and welcome to the family, Melissa, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you are getting. Is this your first grey and/or first parrot? Do you know the sex of it yet and have you picked a name for it? Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you have specific questions you want to ask we will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. When you do bring this grey home if you could share a picture of it with us we would love to see it.
9. Well congrats, Hilary, for choosing this profession, I know it is a lot of hard work and study but we really do need more of people like you. And yes we need more large animal vets but I think you have made the right choice, we see that all the time with members saying they have no close avian vets, karma for you Hilary.
10. http://www.drsfostersmith.com is one I use a lot.

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2007/12/10 04:01
11. Four weeks is a long time to be away but that certainly helps that you can board them with the people you got Bella from, I'm sure she will miss you terribly and vice versa but the ladies will be able to handle it.
12. Vet school, are you going to be an avian vet, Hilary, that would be wonderful, we can always use more of them?
13. Yes I'd say you are a little late to help with this thread but not for future searches. Thanks for posting the website link for future references.
14. I'd say he is a little jealous of the closeness of the two of you and that is understandable since he is not there all the time like you are but it won't harm her unless something happens that you can't be around her much. They do get used to the attention and if that changes then it could become a problem. But if I were you I would do the same thing, enjoy her.
15. You are right, AshyP23, you all win with the former owner being a friend, they can help you with any problems and still get to see him occasionally, I'm hoping all goes well and he settles in nicely. Keep us informed.
16. Thanks, Hilary for posting some pictures of Atticus, he is such a cutie, of course all the babies are adorable and that month will be gone before you know it.

grape skin toxic?

I believe Mario, aka, Ziggy, is the one who mentioned that grape skins were toxic, maybe he will post in this thread and tell us where he got that information from, I want to know also as does all the others here, I'm sure.
18. Hello and welcome to the family, Ashley, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Andre. I know you are going to love it here just like we do. This is so nice that you could take in this grey and being an older bird might have some baggage to overcome but with your love and patience you should be able to overcome that and bond with him. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions you may have. We will be glad to try and answer to the best of our ability and help you in any way we can. Yes please do post pictures when you get them, we would love to see Andre.
19. Maui is a very lovely baby and those are some good pictures of him/her, just love the baby eyes, thanks for sharing them with us and we look forward to hearing the good news that Maui is home.
20. Terri, if you are comfortable with it then by all means continue with it, you are very lucky to have such a devoted grey, many here would love to have your problem.
21. Lisa if you have only had him for 8 days, that is not long enough for him to feel comfortable with you and to trust you enough to come to you. Give him some time to adjust, some just take longer to accept new things and patience is key right now. But try the fist and see if he will be more receptive to stepping up on that.
22. Stuaz, I hope you are going to update us on your grey's vet visit, you said you would and we are concerned.
23. Yes Dan that was a very touching poem and it cuts right to the heart, too bad the author is unknown, but it must have been one who has taken in rescues. Glad that Indy is home and doing ok for now but with Tracy's love and attention I am sure he will flourish. Keep us informed of how he progresses.
24. Is Dan trying to put words in Makena's mouth, that scoundrel:evil: just kidding Dan, if she says he was whistling then he was just whistling. LOL
25. I agree, $500 plus the cage, toys and everything else that was his is a good deal and congrats on getting a grey. If I may ask why are they getting rid of him? AshyP23, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and this grey you are going to get.
