  1. Thanks Joanne for guiding Deb to the welcome room and for your help in getting her to become a member of our family. We look forward to having her here and I know she will enjoy it as much as we do.
  2. Hello and welcome to the family, DebT, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Fawkes and Cinders. Sorry to hear about the plucking problems of Fawkes but this happens sometimes and I hope we can help you find out why and maybe find a way to stop him from doing it. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information, and some of it is about plucking problems. We will do our best to get an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Fawkes and Cinders that you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

    Body Language

Greys don't need much help with grooming, just leave them to do that for themselves, even the pin feathers because if some are not ready to be opened up you could get bit. I know that when they put their head down for a neck scratch and they are looking up with their eyes be careful, a bite may be coming, but if the eyes are looking downward it is usually safe. The eyes tell all.
  4. Thanks Tracy for sharing a picture of Soldier with us, yes you can see the fear in his eyes but not for long for as Joe so aptly says you have a heart as big as all outdoors. Thanks so much Tracy for giving this grey a loving home and a chance to know a real family.
  5. I really don't know but we have a resident expert here that I feel knows the answer and maybe Dave007 will chime in with a response. Don't worry I am staying warm, it is going to be up to 70 today in VA as we are having a warm spell.B)
  6. Sorry to hear you are under the weather but I hope you do get to feeling better soon so you can join us, we love hearing from you.
  7. Well Chris would you be able to bring a cage along for her to stay in while you are working? I know you probably have a travel cage but that is not big enough for a lengthly stay of from 4 to 8 weeks. I think you can fly or drive with her but you can take along more stuff for her if you drive. But whatever decision you make let us know what you end up doing and be sure to let us know how it goes for her.
  8. Soldier is a fine name, Tracy, and I know he will be a brave little trooper. Don't forget to share a picture of him when you get the chance, we want to see him.
  9. Idiots, yes and I would be another one who would want to tear him a new one, but glad Max is with someone who can love him and give him what he so desperately needed, a good home, bless his little heart. Thanks Mario for sharing this story with us, I was so glad it had a happy ending.
  10. What wonderful pictures of Cosmo, Jimmy, looks like he is having a good time and you are enjoying him, thanks for sharing them with us.

    grape skin toxic?

Thanks Mario, I look forward to seeing this info on grape skins.
  12. Unless you are going to watch her every minute she is out of her cage I would suggest you do something about the doggie door or she will be out of it again. I know they are convienient for your dogs but look what happened this time, next time could be worse. I am glad you found her and you did the right thing in rinsing her off good.
  13. Because like you said it, they are your loved ones, doesn't matter that they aren't human and they love you unconditionally.
  14. Pink feathers would indicate the red factor in greys, and that is special. There is nothing wrong with them, it just means that he has the pigmentation in some of his feathers that makes them red or pink as you call it. Some people would love for their greys to have that coloring and we have a few here on the forum that have greys with that red factor in them. You have a special grey, Kerri. He definitely needs some exercise to burn off that fat he has put on and you need to work on that but enjoy the red or pink feathers.
  15. An aloe plant is on my list of things to get for the birds, gotta be prepared for anything.
  16. Gosh Terri, these people sound wonderful and this would be the best choice for Steve to get a baby grey. They should get more business now for the free advertising here on this forum:P. I think if I decide to get me another bird I may have to just check out this breeder from the good recommendation from Terri.
  17. Congratulations Tracy on reaching another milestone and you do it with such flair. You have been a wonderful addition to this forum and doing an excellent job as moderator of the bird food room. I count you as one of my special friends here and I know I can count on you for help anytime I need it and so can the other members here on this forum. You have a big heart which is evident with the recent addition of yet another grey to your flock, a grey with a need of love and attention and I know he has come to the right place. Keep up the good work Tracy and I look forward to sharing many more years of your knowledge of greys and your friendship, you go girl!!!!!! Love, Judy
  18. No I don't have a clue to this idea but we have some members who do and maybe one of them will chime in with some input on using hemp seed. At the very least I would give an avian vet a call and ask, they should know.
  19. I would wash it down real good with hot soapy water with a little bleach in it, just be sure to thoroughly rinse it before you use it. I think that is smart to wait to see the personality before deciding on a name, sometimes something about the bird my give you an idea of a suitable name. I know you can't hardly wait for Saturday to get here but be sure to share a picture with us, we are anxious to see it too.
  20. Thanks Laurie for sharing this with us, it is the truth for sure out of the mouths of babes.
  21. The avian vet I take Josey to will do bloodwork as a routine procedure, it tells them more about the health of your grey and is not just for determining illness. Maybe it is time to find a new vet if you don't feel comfortable with how this one handles things. And yes you know your bird best because you see him all the time and for years at that, thats why you notice things that someone else wouldn't. Keep an eye on him for any further developments and stay in touch with us, I would like to see more involvement from you if you have the time.
  22. Did they do any bloodwork and such, that should have been part of the visit. I am sorry they did not find anything wrong with him, something is different and maybe it is mental like the vet suggested. Maybe he is just going thru a phase that he is moody and not himself and he will come thru it soon and be back to his old self. I hope so for I know it concerns you and it puzzles me, but in any case keep us updated on his progress. I hope it resolves itself soon.
  23. I like the sound of the 36 x 24 x 45 better than the first one you mentioned, and it is similar to the one I have but mine is taller and has a playtop on one side. You really need to go with the larger cage if you can, they need plenty of room for playing and being able to flap their wings and not touch the sides. Have you had the 15 year old Cag since it was a baby? Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and this grey.
  24. Yes it is ok for him to start eating pellets but go easy on the seeds, use them only for treats. Try offering him some fresh and cooked veggies and a few fruits. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about yourself and this new baby of yours.
  25. If he holds them like shown in the above pictures all the time, then certainly something is wrong, that is not a natural position for the wings. Please find a suitable vet and have him checked out.
