He/she is adorable, they are so cute when they are babies, thanks for sharing a picture with us. I can't think of any names at the moment but if I do I will surely post it for your consideration.

Thats great, Bert, that he will eat all his food, most will pick thru what they want out of it and leave the rest or fling it everywhere. He really cleans his plate, did you tell him that there were starving birds that would love to have what he doesn't want.
-
Josey does not poop on me anymore and Sunny does not do it as often as she used to so I guess my two birds don't like me very much according to Dan!!!!!! Just kidding, I am much more aware of the body language and react to it now. Thanks for a wonderful list for new grey owners Mario.

Kristin and Mark, you both make good cases of not giving raw garlic to your greys and it could have been any of a number of causes that led to the demise of the member's grey that died after ingesting raw garlic. I guess we as individuals will have to make that decision for ourselves but I will err on the side of caution and not feed Josey any raw garlic.

She is blushing and she obviously is a happy bird and happy to see you, Josey has done that too.

Well I am glad you got your weekends back, no one should be taken advantage of like that but if you don't stand up for yourself that is exactly what will happen. Glad you could get your God daughter a present, after all she didn't choose her parents. Thanks Siobhan, for updating us on this.

Hello and welcome to the family, ZeusOwner, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey, Zeus. You don't provide much information in your introduction so I am going to ask some questions. How old is your grey, did you get him as a baby, is he the only bird you have right now, have you had other birds and what is your first name? Just a few to get to know you better. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you have specific questions and you must have for you are looking for some help, just ask and we will do our best to answer and help you in any way we can. I see that is probably Zeus in your avatar but if you have any other pictures you would like to share with us please do, we love to look at photos of each other's greys.

The funny thing is Josey, my grey, is now telling Sunny, my conure, to shut up when she starts screaming, its a hoot sometimes. You're right BMustee, attention is attention no matter what it is and I don't imagine Alcazar appreciates it very much being covered up during the daytime either and it won't solve the problem.

I put her in the tub and spray her down good with the aloe vera juice until she is soaked. At first she does protest but she gives up and just stands there while I spray her, I think once she gets wet it feels good to her. I do the same thing to my sun conure, she hates it and tries to get away but you got it, I give it to her anyway. Of course all I have to do with her is run the vacuum cleaner and she will bathe in her water dish.
-
At two and a half years of age she is no where near sexual maturity yet, try bathing her at least 2 times a week like suggested earlier in a previous post, and usee the aloe vera juice and soak her good. Her skin may be dry and she is picking because it irritates her, my Josey does not care for baths either but I do it anyway for her own good.

What is your reaction to his nipping off of his feathers? He may just be continuing to do it for the response he gets from you, you need to ignore it, I know that is hard to do but if that is the reason why he does it then you have no choice.

Toni wrote: Toni, I think you just answered your own question, the daycare kids are telling him to be quiet and that is a reaction and he continues to do it for that. You are going to have to ignore the noise before he will quit, or you will have to leave him at home.

That is so sad that he has never been handled and it will be a long road but I have faith in you Tracy, keep up the good work.

Thanks Mario for that reminder about the lead in toys, most stores have pulled them off the shelves but you are right, secondhand stores may still have them out for sale. CHECK THE WEBSITES FOR RECALLS!!!!!
-
You are such a dedicated bird loving woman, so I guess this means you cannot handle him yet if you left him there on the curtain rail. Well I know you will eventually because you are a determined woman and if anyone can do it you can, you go girl........

Well we can argue back and forth about the feeding of garlic to our birds, but could it have been the fact that it was a chunk of garlic that killed him since it was blocking his intestines and not the garlic itself. So maybe if the garlic was chopped up into small pieces it would not pose the same threat, this is just a thought. I don't presently give Josey any raw garlic but I have considered it and now I am unsure of what to do.

I'm sorry that someone felt compelled to take away your karma, Spookyhurst, I would rather they send you a pm explaining why they thought you deserved it. Your post was the first time I have heard about the pink feathers being a sign of illness but that does not mean that it is not true, thanks for posting it for us to read about. Yes it was depressing to read but if there is any truth to it then forewarned is forearmed.
-
I too wouldn't worry either since he seems happy and talks, I am going for the red factor as the case. Kerri why don't you post a picture showing us the pink feathers and we all can have a look at what you are talking about. It could be that since it is just a few scattered feathers they look pinkish instead of red.

I go along with BMustee, and wait a few more weeks before taking it home, you don't want to set it back any. I know you are anxious to bring it home but a few more weeks will make a difference I think. But whatever you do decide to do let us know. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and this grey.
-
Well those are my wishes too, that I could meet some of the members here on this forum, I have made some real good friends here Tracy, and I count you as one of them. That Soldier is one lucky grey.
-
See what you started Joe, but this all helps us to make our homes safer for our feathered friends. Thank you Joe for starting it and many thanks to Joanne for doing the research on the teflon danger and giving us all this information. What wonderful and caring members you two are.

Eddie my Josey is doing the exact same thing, scratching like a chicken, they all do that and I don't know why but it is normal behavior. Don't worry that your baby is nuts, he's just a normal little fellow and do enjoy him at this stage for he is only a baby once but he will be a lifelong companion you won't want to be without.
-
Well let me start off with congrats on quitting the smoking habit, you will be much better off without them. I haven't noticed any particular smell about my grey's breath, but I imagine that what they eat does have an effect on what it smells like, the garlic for example. I am sure your sense of smell is heightened now that you have quit smoking so I would not worry about it, and that is my opinion.

Eddie, my Josey nibbles on my fingers also especially when she was a baby, she is 18 months old now, and that is just her exploring her world. She has never really bitten me at least not yet, but they use their beak like we do a hand. I wouldn't worry about the bites becoming harder, I doubt it. In fact, I was playing with Josey the other day with my hand under my shirt and she was going after it and biting my hand but when I removed my hand from underneath the shirt she continued to bite my hand but she lightened up on the pressure. If you haven't already done so, please introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and this new grey, like what is his name?
