How unusual for someone to have a pet turtle that big and besides I thought they were protected. But hey thanks for sharing the pictures with us, not every day you see big turtle like that.B)

Congrats Judo on bringing her home, wow 2 months old and I bet she is a beauty. I look forward to seeing some pictures of her soon.

If you knew then what you know now....

Gosh Heather, you feel guilty about leaving her in her cage for 6 hours straight, how about at least 9 hours a day. I work an 8 hour day and counting the travel time there and back it is 9 hours minimum. I do feel guilty but that is the way it has to be and I don't think I would have done it any different. We all have to work and most of us do not have the luxury of being able to do that from our home. I count my self lucky that I am able to touch Josey most places without too much fuss, and I have used a towel from time to time so it does not freak her out when she sees it. I would probably have taken her out in public more but that is hard since I live out in the country and gas is getting more expensive every day and it is not practical to take her much of anywhere. I have taken her to work with me on occasion and she does fine. My only regret is that I waited so long before getting her, I am not a young person and she will in all likelihood outlive me so another owner will be in her future. I can only hope that he/she will give her the love and attention she is used to getting from me. -
I am so sorry to hear of this Raehamilton, but some are affected by our absence and Angie may well be one of them that are. There are some good suggestions in this thread, try them out and let us know how they work for you and don't stay away for so long, we miss you here on the forum.

I just love the cockatoo dancing to the backstreet boys music also, I have watched that many times and enjoy it like seeing it for the first time every time.

Joanne, it might also help that since Buddi is the first grey you acquired that it be the first one fed, first one out of the cage, in general the first one in everything. She was there before Charlie so she is No 1 bird and needs to be treated as such, not that she gets more attention than Charlie but that she gets it first. This was mentioned by Dave007 when he first came to the forum and it makes sense. Try that and see if it helps any at all.

Thanks Mario for sharing a couple of pictures of your new members of your flock, and one of them is a sun conure and that pose looks familiar, hanging by one foot.
-
Thanks Deb for the link to the Gabriel Foundation, I have heard of them and it is certainly one of the places I will be more than happy to donate to, I have heard good things about them besides your praises.

If you have any reason to suspect that your bird is sick you should take it in to see an avian vet ASAP. They do have a higher body temperature than we do but if you question it at all please seek help.

You have some very interesting names for your pets, Zeus, Spring, Chiku, Snowy and Onyx. And you are right about feeling like you're dealing with a bunch of toddlers, no truer words have been written.

No one likes to be "told" what to do and I guess that includes greys, LOL, just like children they are.

What a wonderful bunch of photos, Lovie, looks like you had a good time, and thanks for sharing a few of your moments in Hawaii with us. -

Hello and welcome to the family, Mgoertzen5, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Mango. You say she is 10 years old, have you had her all this time or recently aquired her, I ask because it could have a bearing on why she is doing this. Have you changed anything around in the household lately or made some other changes that she is reacting to? Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you have specific questions just ask and we will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have a picture of Mango you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

They will be just fine at that temperature. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about yourself and this grey you have.

Hello and welcome to the family, Sarah, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. What is his name? I commend you for adopting a rehomed grey, I don't know what the circumstances are that you now have him, but if this can be his last home that would be great, just do what you are doing, let him settle in and get used to his new home. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and if you have specific questions just ask and we will do our best to answer and help you in any way we can. Is this your first grey or first bird? Do you have any other pets in your household? If you have a picture you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Laurie, they are real smart and it does not surprise me that a grey would do this for the attention, for look what it got him the first time. Kat, I am sure Oliver probably heard someone clear their throat and it does not take but once for them to pick up on a sound. My Josey does a lot of noises that I can't identify but I am sure she heard them and is repeating them. Josey does a lot of that clucking you talk about, is probably a grey thing.

Well I had my second weigh in since I joined Curves and I have lost 7 pounds and 6 inches in the last month, not bad huh, and I didn't think I had done too good but I must be doing something right.
-
Thanks Connie for taking me up on my suggestion of compiling all the photos into a thread where we can easily see the development, wow this is great and she is a beauty. I'll just bet you are enjoying every minute now that she is home with you.
-
My Josey did not really talk until she was around 1 year old so you have plenty of time yet for her to start talking. She did the whistles and mimicing of other sounds she heard in the household. Just like Lovie said just keep talking around her and soon she will pick up and repeat some of what she hears.
-
Well at least you got a thank you, and if you hadn't gotten that I would have told you to stop the presents, you don't owe her a present, you give out of the goodness of your heart. You are right to blame the parents, and you said it in a nutshell, "she threatened them a lot but never carried thru", they knew her threats meant nothing, just hot air out of her mouth. Kind of like that saying, Who is the parent and who is the child?
-
I imagine Dave's lips are sealed, LOL Yes you are right, possessions can be replaced but your birds cannot and I would not have blamed you in the least for your actions.
-
Yay Connie, Goldie is finally home and she looks good there in that picture. She is certainly a beauty and I know you are going to enjoy her for a very long time. Thanks Connie for sharing a wonderful moment with us, maybe you can put in a post with a picture of every stage of development so we can easily look thru to see how she grew and became so lovely. This has been so fascinating to watch.

Thats a very interesting conclusion, Joanne, and it is worth a try to see if it has anything to do with her behavior. Be sure to let us know how it turns out.
