  1. Sorry to hear of your plucking problems but the aloe vera juice is good for them, very soothing for the skin. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and this grey you have.
  2. Be sure to let us know what you find out, we are curious too.
  3. Yep those little conures are characters for sure, my Sunny likes to do the head bobbing thing and she is such a clown. If I have both of my birds out at the same time I have to keep them separated also, the conure is jealous of the grey, you would think she was the bigger bird by the way she acts, the little hussey.
  4. And as always, Dave comes thru again with a fine post about giving Prozac, I haven't heard of giving it to greys for plucking problems until now. Good luck with it Lynne and be sure to keep us updated on how it works out for you.
  5. Most greys like to make soup, they will dip their food in the water and this is nothing new and the fact that he/she only does certain foods/pellets is no surprise either. Perfectly normal behavior for a grey. Thats great he/she has a clean bill of health, thats always good to hear.
  6. Hello and welcome to the family, Mike, aka, Slayer, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. Some greys do not like water or bathing, mine included, but I do spray her to get her wet, she has learned to tolerate it for she knows I am going to do it anyway. I use aloe vera juice in a spray bottle and soak her good with it, it helps the skin. Trust is a big issue with greys and it takes time to gain that trust but is well worth it, some take longer so never give up. Take the time to read thru many of our threads for lots of useful information and ask us any questions you may have, we will do our best to get an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of your grey you would like to share with us, we would love to see her.
  7. I been thinking of getting a steam cleaner, what kind do you have, BadKarma?
  8. Great pictures Michael of Gina on her back, this is what I want Josey to do but she refuses, maybe you can give us some tips that helped you accomplish this feat, I am so jealous.
  9. You two are really bonding well, he was content enough to fall asleep on you, that is so sweet.
  10. I am having a good day, at 10:11 am and I am at work, don't tell anyone, chilly here that just gets you in the spirit of the holiday.
  11. I knew it, and it is a good name, cute for a grey, don't you just love him to death, and that is so cute when he does that crouching down thing, he is begging.
  12. Thanks for sharing a picture of Brutus, and I really love the one in your profile doing the spread eagle stance.
  13. What a beautiful bird, Mario, a really magnificent creature and the amazon and grey are good looking also, don't want them to feel left out. Thanks for sharing these with us.
  14. They do grow so fast in the first weeks, it is amazing to see, thanks for updating us on Nikita, and we look forward to seeing a picture soon.
  15. I concur with the other members here, I would have him checked out by an avian vet and please let us know what you find out.

I'm surprised that only 10 of them are eliminated in a week's time, they will definitely wear them out.
  17. You have only had Edgar for 3 weeks and that is not long enough for him to begin trusting you, be patient and in time he will allow more touching. But be prepared for the fact that some never do allow much touching on the wings, legs and back.
  18. Matt, this is not the news I wanted to hear, and you are right, PDD is a serious matter and I hope and pray that it is not that. I am glad that he seems to be better but it does not look good at all if it is PDD. I will keep you and Rafikki in my thought and prayers that it is not PDD and he gets better and gets over whatever is wrong with him. Take care and keep us informed.
  19. Thats a cute little budgie, Kathy, thanks for sharing a couple of pictures with us.
  20. That is something else, Heather, I have never seen wild turkeys around a house like that, must be a different breed of turkey than what we have here. The eastern wild turkey would not be that close to a house, they are a very wary bird. Thanks for capturing this and sharing them with us.
  21. Laurie is right, you will not drive us nuts, for we are already nuts over our greys.
  22. He is just comfortable, they like tucking one foot up, it rests that foot for a while, looks uncomfortable but it isn't, they all do it.
  23. Dave you certainly do have a way of explaining things, so there you have it Dan, you don't want to encourage such behavior even though I am so old I can't remember what it was like to be so young.
  24. I must have had an easy one, Josey has stepped up for me almost from day one, and she continues to step up for me, she is a good bird. I assume you have tried to put your hand in front of his chest and push slightly while he is on the perch, keep pushing as if trying to knock him off balance and they usually will step up to keep from falling. If he does step up, praise him lavishly.
  25. A little hot water and some elbow grease takes care of them nicely.
