  1. I can't comment on a change in Josey as she has been eating Harrisons since I brought her home but she is very good natured and never bites me, now whether this has anything to do with her eating Harrisons or not I do not know but she wastes very little of it and she looks pretty healthy to me.
  2. It helps to keep the list of forbidden foods taped to the fridge, we may have a thread or two that lists the foods they can't have but mine are enjoying some fresh tomatoes as am I.
  3. Some people pick up a good cage from a bird mart or bird fair, thats where I got Josey's cage several years ago but several members have commented on getting a good deal off ebay but you can also google bird cages and see what comes up.
  4. I would take him with you for the weekend, he would probably enjoy it and a couple of days spent in the travel cage won't hurt him for he will be with you and that is what really matters.
  5. He sounds ok to me and why did you take the tomato away from him, I give Josey some tomato now that we have some from our garden, she likes them.
  6. Its best to get as much information as possible before you actually get that grey, it will help you so much to know what you are getting yourself into.
  7. Some will eventually let you touch them most anywhere but most usually love to be scratched on their necks and they like having their beak rubbed. Most greys that are particular about where you touch them usually don't like you to touch their wings, their tail and some their feet. Give you bird time, the best way to gain their trust is to go slowly and do not push for more than they want to give or you will lose what you gained, paitence is what we preach here for you will gain more by being patient with your grey. Let her dictate what she will allow you to do and gradually over time she may allow more and more.
  8. Breeder greys must have the right conditions to be breeders which means they are not usually in the house, they are usually housed separately so they have privacy. They are not handled much like pet greys and usually when a bird is used for a breeder bird they do not make the transition to a pet grey very well. We do have some members here who have both, breeder and pet greys but only the pet ones are kept in the house with everyone else. If you decide to adopt a former pair of breeders be prepared for them to not ever be tame enough for you to handle, yes you can give them a home, food and love but I doubt you will be able to hold them or have them sit on your hand. They would be too stressed out for that. Dave is the one here who can give you some advice on adopting some breeder greys and I can imagine he would try to talk you out of it.
  9. The others are right, the red feathers are referred to as having red factor and it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with it but it may molt out so don't count on it staying. They must be pretty much fully feathered if they are going to be ready to go in a week or two but how old are they? That is really great that you found some closer to home and I can't wait to see some pictures of the one you picked out.
  10. Hello Shannon and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Willow. I have a Cag named Josey, she is 3 years old and I have a sun conure named Sunny and she is about 4 1/2 years old, Sunny was my first parrot and then I felt like I could handle a bigger one and I got my Cag. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Willow you would share with us we would appreciate it and if you want to share some of Diego we have an other birds room where you can put them.
  11. Hello KC and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you, Phoenix and Talula. Very nice introduction, I love it when new members will give us a lot of information so we can get to know you better and that way it helps when you ask questions. They are both lovely greys even though one plucks but that is not your fault and maybe you can be able to stop her or at least slow down her destruction of her feathers but you will have to determine what causes her to do this first. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks so much for including some pics of your greys.
  12. Happy Birthday Pat, hope you have a wonderful day.
  13. Ecko looks great at the beach, glad he had a good time, thanks for sharing those pics with us, I would have loved to have been there walking in the sand, love it.
  14. Steph congrats on bringing home a 6 year old grey but are you sure you can handle her, I mean this bird is not going to be like handling a baby, this bird has been in other homes and has already developed some habits that you may have to deal with. I don't know how much experience you have but you better give yourself a crash course and be sure to read thru the threads in the rescue room for some of them may be of help to you, otherwise ask us anything.
  15. Most of them do get a little nippy when they are going thru a molt, the pin feathers bother them some and are uncomfortable, he will return to his more normal self when the molt is over. You can help him to feel better by bathing him several times a week and using aloe vera juice to spray on him, it will help his skin because the molt is making him a little itchy. I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and Leo.
  16. Congrats Ernie, its your lucky day I guess, looking forward to seeing some pictures when you get her home.
  17. dianemelissa wrote: The original question was asked in 2005 but Diane brought it back up with her first post and that is why it is here. We do not delete old posts, they stay forever because they contain lots of useful info. Diane why don't you make your introduction in a new thread in the welcome room and we can go from there.
  18. Thanks Jen for sharing that link with us, I just love those little hummers but I don't have the patience to stand still long enough to get them to do that with me.
  19. This is great news Jennifer, I am so happy to hear Kasuku is home safe and sound, maybe it would be a good idea to get him checked out or you will worry otherwise, let us know what you find out.
  20. That is so funny Pat, your dogs are watching out for the woodwork too, they are worth their weight in gold to keep their eyes on the birds and let you know when they go astray, good dogs.
  21. What a beautiful bird, I know you are so proud and happy to have Pebbles home, she looks great, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  22. Your Gracie is adjusting to her new home very nicely and has you wrapped around her little talon, she sounds like a delight to have and I am so glad she is doing so well. I love that shot of her butt sticking out from the blanket, cute pic, thanks for sharing it with us.
  23. Thanks Dan for sharing another video with us of the misadventures of Dayo, the toilet paper king.
  24. They must have awful sensitive ears if they are disturbed by a grey, maybe she could tell them to sound proof their walls if it bothers them that much.
  25. I guess they do all kinds of things in the wild even eat dirt, I have seen those little tubs you can buy and grow the grass but never tried it, maybe I need to get one and try it and see if Josey will eat dirt.
