  1. Smokie is a very nice looking grey and yes you will have to put down some paper or something to catch the poops that may be dropped when they are on the door but it looks like greyt fun. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  2. Unless their house is right up against their neighbors house I don't' see how the birds could be making that much noise to disturb them but I would ask them if it is really that bad and maybe explain that birds generally do go thru several vocal times during the day and that she didn't realize that her birds were disturbing anyone. If they have some pets like cats or dogs then I would bring up that they have disturbed you at times and see what their reaction to that is. I don't have this problem as I live out in the country and no one lives close enough to hear my birds when they are vocal. Finally I would tell the neighbor that they should be grateful you don't have a cockatoo or macaw, now that would be loud.
  3. Congrats on Emma taking flight, she will be a more confident grey now that she has mastered her skills and I agree 100% on the taking her outside only in her adventure pack unless she will wear a harness, it is too risky.
  4. DayosMom wrote: This I already figured out on my own Kim but that Dayo is a mess, thanks Dan for sharing that video with us.
  5. Hello Sarah and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Lenny. You posted this introduction in the right place, I know how you feel about first coming on this site as I was the same way, never thought I would learn how to use it but you learn quickly as you will learn about your grey. Have you ever had any kind of birds or parrots before? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks so much for including a couple of pictures of Lenny, he is a very sweet looking grey, he seems to be blushing a little in the first shot.
  6. Dan and Kim have said it so well but I want to add my two cents worth. Dave is very passionate about the greys and he is very outspoken about it and with his experience he is the person we go to when we need advice. We can always count on him to be honest and sometimes he is brutally honest about what he says but when you get to know him you will understand. He is not one to sugarcoat the truth, he tells it like it is and for some that comes off as arrogant but when you get to know him you see he is just very passionate about what he belives in and we listen intently, he has seen it all and as far as I am concerned he knows it all. Dave has many many years of experience as a breeder and owner of pet greys, he understands them better than probably anyone else on this forum so his advice is sought out by us all. Dave will always tell you the truth, even if it hurts and it sometimes does but that is his way and those of us who are fortunate enough to know him a little better understand that is how he is and accept it. We are all individuals like our greys but some generalizations can be made when you have spent as many years as Dave has working with them as pets, breeding, rescuing and rehabilitating them. Wing clipping is a very hot topic here and some of us feel very passionate about it with Dave topping the list but when it all comes down to it he is right, we shouldn't clip their wings, they were meant to fly and they have a different mentality if they can't.
  7. Congrats on your new arrival, I am sure you will decide on a name soon, thanks for sharing a pic of him/her with us.
  8. He is a very pretty bird Char, he does seem to be able to climb very well, he is going to be awesome, thanks for sharing these pics of your handsome guy with us.
  9. Those are very cute pics of Simba, loved the ones of Simba on the back of the dog, thanks for sharing them with us.
  10. Cheddar cheese does it for Josey, she will practically turn inside out to get that.
  11. Well that is ok that she is a hearty eater, the main thing is she is fine and healthy, so you have a little piggy on your hands, it could be worse, thanks for sharing the results of the vet visit.
  12. Hello Linnea and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and whether you get a grey or not. You really need to do a lot of reading and researching to find out if a grey is a good fit for you because getting one is making a lifetime committment since these birds can live for 50+ years. You can start by reading thru the many threads here for lots of useful information. You need to make a decision on whether you can provide the right home for a grey, they need a big cage, healthy food, an abundance of toys to keep them busy and occupied, they need quality time out of the cage every day for they want to be with their family and they aren't cheap. We like for any prospective parronts to be sure they really want a grey and know they can provide for their needs before they commit to getting one for we don't like to see them have to be rehomed. I encourage you to ask all kinds of questions, no matter how silly they may seem, we have heard all kinds before and we will try our best to get you some answers and help you make that decision.
  13. Hello William and welcome to our family, we are so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Modus. My favorite pets are birds now too, I used to be more of a cat person and I have always had cats in my life ever since I can remember, I still have one but birds are more important to me now at this stage in my life. You will learn a lot from reading thru the many threads on various subjects, they are loaded with useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Modus you would share with us we would appreciate it.
  14. Oh we didn't need pictures to see how much you love your fids Pat, yes it shows how much he has changed for the better, you certainly have made a healthy change in him, thanks for sharing the pictures with us and yes we do need pictures because we love seeing the fids.
  15. Tango is gorgeous Char, he is a real beauty, congrats on your new addition to the flock and thanks for sharing some pics of him with us.
  16. Carol you are simply amazing how you come up with all these ideas for toys, do you give lessons?
  17. So thats what you did with the vet wrap, looks good Carol, what are they made of? I bet they were big hits, thanks for sharing them with us.
  18. Well don't forget to come back and introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about you and this new grey you are getting.
  19. I have no experience with handfeeding so I can't comment on that but I wanted to say that taking her in may not be a bad idea, things can go wrong and it will at least put your mind at ease, please let us know what you find out.
  20. Those are wonderful Jan, Tobie is such a ham and full of himself, very funny sound effects too, thanks for sharing those with us.
  21. Looks good to me, is more for a larger bird but a grey could have fun on it too and for $50 its a steal.
  22. Its ok if you want to change her name, others here have done exactly that even if she says her name she will learn her new one. She is still settling in to her new home, you have only had her for a day or two and that is nothing to a grey plus the fact that she was traumatized by a woman at the pet shop, the poor bird needs some time to become comfortable. I am talking weeks and months for her to feel like she is safe and to become trusting of you, you have to earn her trust and that takes time. She is probably sneezing because of dander if she is molting but they have a natural dander that you will see on things around her, you can give her a shower either by taking her into the shower or use some kind of spray or mister on her to get her wet.
  23. Emma looks darling in her adventure pack out watching the game and I especially love the butt shot!! {Feel-good-0002006E}
  24. They are gonna know something is up when they start seeing boxes and you packing things up in them so just tell them what is going on, they will understand some of it especially Murphy. You won't be moving their cages until you are actually moving in but put them in their travel cages while you move their cages and then take them to their new home and let them look around. Take them all over the new home and let them see where they will be living. Set their cages up and place their toys pretty much the same as when they left their former home and they should settle in very quickly. Since you are only moving a few miles it won't be a long road trip so not much chance of them getting stressed out about it. When they get to their new home give them some treats, that should help soothe them but I don't see too much of a problem. Others may have some more ideas or suggestions for the move but it should be no big deal.
