  1. They weren't given wings in the first place to just have them cut off, they were meant to fly but if they can't fly then they have to walk and a ladder would provide him a way to get from point A to point B.
  2. Now that made me laugh, thanks Bernie. {Feel-good-0002006E}
  3. I give mine meals of a sort, they get breakfast which they can eat on during the day and of course pellets are available at all times. They eat the evening meal when we do for they eat some of what we are having as long as it is suitable for them. I feed them on a separate stand from the table where I eat, I tired real quickly of birds walking thru my food as you don't know where they have been.
  4. Birds like to snack any time of day or night so it makes sense to have some food available at all times and pellets fit that bill. The fresh stuff has to be removed soon after serving as it will spoil but the pellets are fine to leave some in the bowl.
  5. Oh my, another lost grey, please read thru this thread for some ideas you might have missed, Dan did everything he could and he got his bird back, hopefully you will too, let us know how it goes.
  6. No it is a good idea but you have to be watchful of when he is down on the floor so he doesn't get into something that could hurt or kill him. This is especially nice for those who have greys who are either clipped or otherwise don't fly to give them a way to get to the floor though some don't like being down on the floor. Be sure he doesn't get to any electrical cords while down there and of course if there are any dogs and cats around they may have to be shut up in another room for his safety.
  7. I'd say it might have something to do with it, thanks for sharing the pics of Harvey with us.
  8. The site is having some problems with the updating profile section and until that problem is resolved you may just want to hold off on adding a signature, hopefully it will be taken care of soon. It has nothing to do with how many posts you have.
  9. I have a good stash also, you can never let that run out. I was thinking of something else when I saw the title for this thread, you meant that too didn't ya, funny coincidence huh!! :woohoo:
  10. What a ham Dayo has become, yes you have to watch for what you teach them to do, you never know when it is going to backfire on you, but I think he was just trying to wash that little present he left you in the sink:sick: Thanks Dan for sharing that with us. :woohoo:
  11. You really need to work on stepping up outside of his cage as some greys do not like anyone invading their "space" some view it as their sanctuary where they feel safe. Let him come out of his cage and then work on stepping up, I taught mine to step up by putting my hand close to her chest and pushing slightly as if to move her just a tiny bit to throw her a little off balance and she stepped up, of course she was easy to train. When you do it say the word or words you want to use for that command and he will learn when you say that it means step up. When working with your grey make the training session fairly short, they get bored easily and maybe just spend a few minutes and then later do it again. Others will have some more suggestions for you also.
  12. He loves his mommy and wants to be with you, doesn't that make you feel are warm and snuggly inside, makes your heart feel good to know he loves you very much and just wants to be by your side all the time. BTW, thats a very cute butt shot of him, why don't you frame that.
  13. Ah Penny, I think that is in Celsius as she is in Sweden.
  14. Wow what a pretty B&G macaw, now thats some baby and her name is Pebbles, can't wait to hear about her homecoming and see some pictures too.
  15. That definitely sounds like she is molting but it is normal for them to lose a few feathers from time to time and you can help her by bathing her at least twice a week, take her into the shower or mist her to get her soaked, it will help with her dander. A lot of us also use aloe vera juice to spray on them maybe right after a bath, it softens their skin and helps with the itchies.
  16. Hello CatSnack and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new to you grey. BTW, what is her name? Most greys do and will bite but they can be taught that those are unacceptable behaviors. With you she is probably testing her boundaries, she wants to know what you will allow her to get away with and that is normal being as she is in a new home. You need to tell her no bite and turn your back on her for a few minutes, they don't like to be ignored but sometimes they just don't want to be messed with and you have to respect that also. That woman you took your bird to that trimmed her doesn't sound like someone I would want dealing with my grey in the future, she did not have to handle her so roughly, no wonder she was biting her, I would find someone else to do the trimming if she needs it. If you haven't already it might be a good idea to take her in to see an avian vet to check her out just to make sure she is healthy. If she was stressed out by that woman then yes she was breathing heavily or panting as you said but their feet do feel warm to the touch all the time as their body temperature is higher than ours. There is some trembling of the chest area when stressed or in fear but that is to be expected of her going to a new home. It will take time for her to settle in and feel comfortable even with you as you are new to her too. Greys are very cautious creatures and it takes them a while to feel comfortable in a new home and to come to trust you, you have to earn their trust but with lots of time and much patience you will. Have you had any birds before? You really do need to read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We really love pictures here so if you have some of this grey you would share with us we would appreciate it very much.<br><br>Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/08/07 14:36
  17. Cindy I have a sun conure and my grey and they do not get along, their cages are close and they are company for each other while we are gone but when I have them out I can't put them on the same playstand. Occasionally I will have both of them on my shoulder, one on each but I have to make sure that the conure doesn't try sneaking over to my grey, she is the more aggressive of the two birds but other than that I have no problems with them as long as I follow my rules. Its funny how the smaller bird thinks she is so big but I know that Josey could kill her in a second if she wanted to but I make sure they don't get too close.
  18. I got it right, maybe I know Caroline's fids as well as she does, not, just a lucky guess, thanks Caroline.
  19. Happy Hatchday to Ana Grey, mommy sure was good to you with cake and presents, love the pic of her peeking out the jolly ball, thanks for sharing these pictures with us Janet.
  20. Better you than me, thanks for the laugh today.
  21. Yes we did Mandi, where have you been all this time? I figured you were busy but now that you have some time on your hands you better check in from time to time and fill us in on what you have been doing. I see you have another grey, a wild one at that but soon she will be like putty in your hands. I hope you are doing well, I know you have health issues but glad to have you back, now get busy and do some posting and share some pictures with us if you have some especially of Sam the new one.
  22. I hear ya, they all have bad habits, they want to eat!
  23. Okay how about A is Keeko, B is Jasper and C is Charlie?
  24. Hello Shanir and welcome to our family, we are so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and possibly a new grey. Dan is right, there is not a lot of difference in Tags and Cags except for the obvious coloring and size. They are both intelligent and capable of talking. You don't see as many Tags because there are not as many breeders who handle them but we have members here who have Tags and love them. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
