  1. It sounds like he loves you very much, I have never had my grey lick my fingers like that but it does sound like affection of some sort, you are special to him and your hubby too, Buddy has come a long way since you brought him into your home and your life.
  2. I am sorry you have to find a new home for your grey and I hope she gets a good home where she gets the love and attention she deserves.
  3. I am sorry to hear about your friend and know how you feel so you are not alone. I think you are going to have to come up with some patience if you are going to share your life with a grey, they don't take to anything very fast and you have been reading some on this site so you know we preach time and patience so remember all good things come to those who wait. You could call every day until she tells you the baby has arrived unless you can tell a definite irritation on her part when you call, some people wouldn't like the constant calling so you will have to play it by ear.
  4. She is adorable and enjoy that cuddling when you can get it for many when they become more mature and independent they don't like to cuddle any more but Socrates could be the exception to the rule, lets hope so, thanks for sharing the pics of her with us.
  5. I am so glad to hear that Gilbert is continuing to amaze you with his small steps, you have been a very patient woman and that is exactly what he needs right now, how sweet that you were able to kiss his head, of course I do that to Josey all the time but for you that is no small feat, he does know he is loved and it is returned in triplicate.
  6. Those babies are adorable at that age with those black eyes, I know you are anxious for that day to come when you get your baby but it will be here before you know it. Like the others have already said just read thru the threads here for you will find lots of useful information and ideas, some you never thought about before and if you still have questions don't hesitate to ask, we will be happy to help in any way we can.
  7. I'm so glad to hear you have no intention of getting rid of Ruby but I have never heard that putting two pluckers together will solve the problem, might just be a myth but someone can correct me if I am wrong. Maybe as the spring turns into summer some of these issues with Ruby and Brad will calm down some as right now Ruby's hormones are raging and he is thinking about mating so direct Brad to not touch Ruby anywhere belong the neck, that means wings, chest, back and tail areas are off limits for those are the errogenous zones. Maybe he needs more foraging type toys to keep him busy and occupied like some that he has to work at to get open.

    Filbert

What a beautiful crest Filbert has when raised, looks like the interaction was positive, yes when does Filbert come home with you.
  9. As always the beautiful photogenic Cocoa, looks like some kind of cedar tree, bet she smelled nice after foraging in it, thanks for sharing them with us Sanggay.
  10. We have gone away for a week at a time and Josey is fine with it, she was glad to see me return but I took her to someone's house as I didn't have anyone to come in and look after her in my home. I am taking another trip later this month and will be gone for 10 days but my hubby will take care of my birds. Yes sometimes some birds will stress with your absence but I wouldn't get all worked up about it, more than likely she will do fine and will be so happy to see you that all will be forgiven. Just tell her before you go that you are leaving for she will know something is going on, they always do as they are observant and can tell when something is about to happen.
  11. Audi is so cute but he wants to chew on Cocoa's lease and I noticed that Cocoa just slightly threw her head Audi's way when he got too close but then Audi managed to chase her off, so adorable.
  12. So what if Ruby is love struck with Brad, like the others have said there is no guarantee a female grey will even get along with Ruby so you definitely cannot just stick another grey in with Ruby as one would probably kill the other. Dan is the perfect example of how greys are, he was the one wanting the bird but Dayo picked his wife as his favored person and there is not a darn thing you can do about it but accept it. This makes we wonder what your committment to this bird really is, just because you are not his favorite, maybe Ruby would be better off to be rehomed to someone who will give him the love and attention he deserves.
  13. I had no idea Marguerite that you have had such a difficult time, losing your father after caring for him for a long time is hard enough but to be in such despair that you considered taking your own life is a devastating revelation and I know it took great courage to tell us here about that part of your life. I fully understand how you feel about your brother, money has a way of showing a person's true colors and if that is all he is concerned about then the less you have to deal with him the better. I am so glad that you have Dorian in your life, you probably saved each other and you two are truly blessed to have each other. We fully understand how you feel.
  14. So when are you picking him up?
  15. One thing about the Aviator is it comes with an instructional dvd that shows you everything, how to get your bird used to it, get it on and off and so forth.
  16. Then let the man have his tiel, they are one of the easiest birds to keep and I am sure he will love it. Depending on where you get this tiel a quarantine period should be observed for you never know what kind of disease the bird could have been exposed to, if you get it from a breeder then it is probably safer than if you get it from a bird store or some type of bird fair. A quarantine period is necessary for the new bird could be carrying a disease without showing any effects from it and usually in the quarantine time it will show itself, of course a checkup by an avian vet would be in order also. Its up to you whether you do this or not but if not then you could potentially expose Momo. Its ok if they see each other if you do not go the route of quarantine but they will be able to hear one another so each will know the other exists.
  17. Those babies are adorable at this age and one of them is yours, do you know which one? Please do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information for it is written by members who have firsthand experience with their own greys, many of the problems you will encounter when you get your baby home is covered in those threads but do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will be happy to help you in any way we can.
  18. That looks more like a rose breasted cockatoo, I guess your breeder has other birds besides just greys, if so they will put babies together especially if it is only one. They are precious looking especially with those red nubs for tails.
  19. If you have some old towels or blankets they would fine to use so no need to buy anything if you an help it for it will only be for a short period of time until she gets more adept at perching and climbing but I highly recommend putting down newspaper on top as it will help keep the padding from getting so dirty so quickly as it can be changed frequently.
  20. Oh come on now, you know you need a tiel, they aren't any trouble and their cage doesn't need to be as large as the others, after all it is a lot smaller bird, I never thought I would want one but now I am glad that Gypsy dropped in on me two summers ago, she is a wonderful little bird and am now tempted to get a male so I can hear him sing, the females don't sing but have a nice little chirp.
  21. Please don't take that bite personally as this bird is in an all new to him surroundings and it doesn't sound like he came from very good conditions to start with so it will take some time for him to feel comfortable in his new forever home. He needs time to settle in and it is advisable to not reach inside his cage with him in it for some birds view their cage as their safety zone and become territorial about it so if something needs adjusting wait until he is out to do those things. Just take your time with him, you can open his door and step back and see if he wants to come out, I would always do this instead of reaching into the cage to get him, that way he makes the decision to come out or not, if he does then let him explore the top of his cage. Don't rush towards him if he comes out, just let him show you if he wants any interaction with you but don't be surprised if he stays a little standoffish for a while as he begins to feel comfortable, let him make the decision if he wants to step up onto your hand. One thing you can do is both of you get in the floor with a couple of toys when he comes out and act like you are playing with them and having a good time, it might be enough to entice him to want to join you, if not then try again another time until he does join in. Keep in mind that this is a mature bird and will take longer to win him over, he has been mistreated and probably doesn't have good feelings towards humans right now so it will be a difficult task to gain his trust but it can be done if you are patient enough to let time take its course, a grey's trust has to be earned and you might think it will never happen but it will if you follow our advice. Greys love to wipe their beak on perches or most anything, it helps to keep their beak in proper order and if they eat something that sticks to their beak they are going to wipe it off with whatever is available, sometimes even shirts. By all means read thru as many of the threads here for you will find lots of helpful advice and if you have any questions feel free to ask and we will help you in any way we can.
  22. Your sun conure is aptly named for they are very colorful and bright. Is your tiel really grumpy or is that because he is older? I do not know the age of my tiel but am guessing she is only a few years old.
  23. Is there any other on the market, Aviator is it.
  24. When he gets into playing with a bottle and you are trying to take it away and he bites you hard enough to bring blood, I don't think he realizes he is hurting you in the process, he is just trying to get his toy back and that excites him and we all know what happens when they get really excited. I know Issac loves you to pieces but when he gets excited about his toys or in this case the water bottle then like Nancy puts it, you must pick your battle, do you win or does Issac win, let us know who comes out on top.
  25. Yes you will definitely have to try that for she may be more receptive of him if you are not present, may be be best if you aren't even home, then he can work with her without the distraction of her favored person, do try that and let us know how it works out for you.
