  1. That is a cute story, he was going on walkabout, thats what they do if they can't fly to where they want to go, mine would never do that because she is in her cage during the night until I let her out in the mornings but that is so endearing to hear he just wants to be with you, you should feel good about that.
  2. I remember you as kingsnake and have wondered what happened to you but so many come and go that it is hard to keep up with them all. Glad to hear Bravo is doing well and you have established a good relationship with him/her. I have to agree with Jill that getting a new grey will have to have his/her own cage as it is doubtful the new one would even like Bravo much less share a cage and since Bravo is a pet he would not be suitable for breeding so you might as well dismiss that idea. Pet greys do not make breeder birds and vice versa. I am certainly for you getting another grey if that is what you want, most of us have more than one bird and many of us have more than one grey so the more the merrier I say. If you do get another grey just put their cages in the same room for even if they don't get along they can see each other and share the company of one another especially when you are not at home. PS, sometimes it helps to write down in a notebook different email addresses, log ins and passwords so you have them when needed especially when you take a long absence.
  3. I bet that is so cute when he does that flip over on his back, you will have to get us some video of him doing that, maybe Chili will succeed in doing it too, wouldn't that be a hoot with one on each arm laying on their backs.
  4. Since Coco loves to twirl on rope toys you will have to remove them especially if you are not going to be home for he could break a leg getting caught with no one to rescue him from himself. I have never had Josey get herself into a situation like that before but she did it would freak her out I am sure.
  5. You really do need to get a handle on that stressing out over it, when she does the picking and overpreening you need to just ignore it for any reaction to it will only make her do it more, I know it is hard to do and you hate to see her destroy her pretty feathers but they pick up on our emotions very well. Have you tried using aloe vera juice to mist her with? It can be very soothing to the skin and might make her feel better. Maybe one of the more experienced members can give you more advice or have some other suggestions for you.
  6. So Luigi it is, you must be Italian, of course he is a wonderful bird, he is a grey. What a sweet moment you had with him on your chest napping away, enjoy your precious baby and be sure to share some pictures with us.
  7. Marco is absolutely adorable outside in the sunshine, those dark eyes get me every time, she is such a beauty, thanks for sharing those pics with us.
  8. Its about that time that he takes his first flight and his landings will get better with practice, greys can be clumsy when they are young and since they are heavy bodied birds it takes a while for them to build up the muscle to control those flights. You might want to not put him up too high on playstands so he has less area to fall and maybe pad the floor somewhat until he gets the hang of flight. Bet you were so proud when he flew to you.
  9. The others have given you some excellent advice and do go about this slowly for it will be a long road since he was previously abused and his trust will be more difficult to gain but it will be worth it when it happens. The cage does need to be where he will be around you and the family most of the time and I second the idea to put the cage where he has at least one side to a wall and preferably two but if not then you can cover one side with a sheet to give him some space to be more relaxed. All of what you have described is typical of a rehomed grey and it will just take lots of time and patience on your part, remember to not push him into something he is not comfortable with but the day will come when he wants to be a part of your flock, he might not like to be handled much, maybe just being near you will be enough to satisfy his needs. Do keep us updated on his progress and think of it in small steps for those will eventually add up to a rewarding friendship with your new companion. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Skye when you get around to sharing some with us.

    Eating habits

Don't take the seed away but do offer some veggies and good stuff and start cutting back on the amount of seed you give him and by all means do not let him see you eat scrambled eggs for they are like monkey see monkey want. Try giving him some boiled egg twice a week instead of scrambled and see how that goes, if he ate vegetables, grains, nuts, pellets and fruits before he should eventually return to eating them again but as long as there is something to eat he won't starve.
  11. If he is getting excited by seeing you when you come home then allow him a little time to calm down as I doubt he is wanting to bite you, its just a reaction to the stimulation, just open his door and let him come out before you go to him for scratches. Maybe one of the other mods will have some other suggestions for you.
  12. That looks awesome, you have two lucky fids there enjoying the fresh air and sunshine and the addition of a fountain for bathing is fantastic, I love this and am going to show it to my hubby and hint away. Thanks for sharing this with us.
  13. You can use a broom for the spiders and a flyswatter for the flies, totally organic and pesticide free.
  14. Love em Sanggay, thanks for sharing them with us.
  15. Doug is right, the flight feathers molt out at different times but usually the same ones on both sides, just be patient as she gains a full set. I love to see them hang upside down myself, I call them "bat" birds, thanks for sharing the pics of Hannah with us.
  16. Try this one:
  17. Usually the same position on both wings of the flight feathers will molt out at the same time and the flights will molt out in different stages so in the wild they are still capable of flight but it may take a year or more for all the flight feathers to molt out so that she has a full set, just be patient.
  18. Hello Nukewalla and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. If the eyes are still sort of dark your bird is under one year of age but if the eyes are ringed with light yellow around the pupil then your bird is probably closer to 2 years of age, after that it is hard to tell the age of a grey. The band usually has info about the breeder and may have a clue to when the bird was hatched but there is no set policy on the info on bands. Some greys will never talk, most do but you may have one that has chosen to not speak in human language and if it is an older bird then I doubt it will ever talk but they usually do mimicking even if they don't talk. It will take a while to get the semi tame bird to be comfortable around you, just take it slow and easy, talk to the bird a lot, give him treats and let him come to you so as not to force yourself on him, you have to earn a grey's trust and it takes a long time so be prepared to spend weeks, months and maybe a year or more to do that, patience is your best friend when working with a grey. Would love to see some pictures of your birds when you get the chance.
  19. I dread the day I may have to administer meds to Josey as I doubt she will take it willingly unless it tastes good, maybe I could disguise it in her oatmeal.
  20. Don't you just love auto correcting in tablets, Ipads, smartphones and such, can make for some comical material. I haven't microchipped any of my birds nor do I plan to.
  21. That looks very nice and they have a nice setting outside to enjoy along with it, I may have to show this to my hubby and see where on the list of things he will do for me this will end up being, thanks for sharing that with us.
  22. The one Josey has is similar to this one: http://www.northernparrots.com/ventura-parrot-cage-antique-prod950020/ I like that it has a playtop on the side and I tend to prefer the other ones that have a play area on top without having to open the top of the cage to get to it, that way they can just go out the door and go to the play area without having to open and close it every day or every time you have to go out.
  23. Well yesterday I went out to lunch with my daughter then we caught a movie, the sun was out when we went in and when we came out it was pouring down rain, raining again today but who knows I may go catch another movie today, for the time being I am free as a bird to do what I want.
  24. Stitch would have been a good one but then that combo has been done and done again, I kind of like Doug's suggestion of Lotus.
  25. So glad to hear you went ahead and took him in, birds hide illness so well until they can no longer hide it that by the time you notice something strange it could be too late, that coupled with your being away then coming home he was so excited to see you a slight change was attributed to the homecoming. Sometimes its best to go with your gut instinct but it looks like he will be just fine, thanks for letting us know what you found out and keep us informed.
