Oh I am so sorry to hear that Janet, yes being small birds they are very quick and I can imagine he was out and gone in no time but you got addicted to his beautiful song so you have a new one now. Yes by all means take the extra measures to keep him safe, I have to be extra careful of Gypsy, my tiel for she is a swift flyer and could easily escape if given the opportunity.

I checked their website out Kim and they do have them and a lot cheaper than drsfostersmith does, I might have to give this site a try. Thanks Kim.

No double post Dee, this hasn't been shared with us yet but what a wonderful story of how this little tiel found her way home and by a dog that "pointed" her out, it is so heartwarming to hear of stories like these, we hear so many sad ones that do not have a happy ending and this one warms the heart and soul, thanks for sharing it with us Dee.

Dire Straits is another favorite.

What a louse indeed and those are the ones you have to watch out for, the nice and slick ones, I can imagine he had plenty of money to pay for them but took the opportunity to just steal them when the vendor was busy with you, I think I would have been tempted to run after him and confront him with the fact he didn't pay for those nuts. So sorry this happened to you Dee but one place I know that has them in the shell is drsfostersmith.com, they are not cheap but then nothing is anymore. Man I would have been really pissed off.

That is just precious and you are not doing me any favors by telling me how sweet he is, remember I am still trying to talk myself out of getting one.

Greys and boings just go together but if you are worried about him going so high and he is still so young you can put some padding down in the cage bottom to cushion any falls until he gets more proficient at perching, you can cover it with some newspaper to keep it cleaner.

Why not make an introduction post in the welcome room and tell us more about this bird, how old, his name, do you have any other birds, is this your first grey, your first bird? The others have given you some excellent advice, it just takes time and lots of patience to get him used to you and to settle down and feel comfortable in his new home, you cannot rush the relationship for he has to learn to trust you and that trust has to be earned. We can be of further help if we know more about his circumstances before he came to you like how many homes has he been in before he came to you and such, rehomed birds do carry some baggage with them from their previous homes and it helps to know some of that so you know what you are dealing with. Pictures are always welcomed here.

They are too smart for their own good but it is uncanny how she knew the right time to say that word, its all in the way it was spoken and like in Dee's case if it gets a reaction then they will use it more often for the pure enjoyment. Time to have a word or two with the stepdaughters so no more of these types of words are heard by Fergie's tender little ears, as much for her benefit as the girls for you will know who to come to if any more are heard. Sorry but I laughed too when I read this, clever girl.

Thats an awfully early age to be bringing a baby grey home but since you have experience with handfeeding I hope all goes well, you will find lots of useful information in the nursery room so be sure to read those threads especially the stickys. I don't think you have to worry about any training at this time for the most important thing now is to ensure your baby eats well and stays healthy. Why don't you officially introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us more about you, your too and this new grey baby you just brought home. Would love to see some pics of Lido and we have an other birds room where you can share some of the too if you like.

Its always just one more bird Janet, well at least it is a small one and a pretty one too, I hear that they sing beautifully, now what do the other fids think of your recent aquisition? Didn't you already have a canary?
-
She is on walkabout, my grey will do that too, since she can't fly at the moment and she wants to be near you she may take a few walkabouts, that will have to suffice until the flights all come in.

Hello Chenliu and Socrates and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us. I hear you are quite the rascal and have no fear, such unusual traits for an african grey but then there is always the odd one in the bunch, would be nice to have a happy medium for the rest of us. I look forward to seeing some pictures when you get the chance.

I like that first one and am fond of the hits from the 80s and 90s but have recently started listening to a lot of country music, never used to care for it much but the radio station I usually listen to changed to all Christmas music 2 weeks before Thanksgiving until the day after Christmas and that is just too early for that so I listened to country and liked it so much I never went back to the other station when they went back to their normal selection.

Oh boy the floodgates are open now and you will hear lots of new words and phrases so just watch out. I love the fact that she wouldn't let you get your full nap in, how dare you ignore her to take a nap when you could have been giving her your full attention, love it.

My first reaction was to say chuck the cage but Dave brings up good points about ruling the roost so to speak, his idea of covering the cage then uncovering a little at a time until it no longer bothers him sounds better to me.

You have a very smart grey and a fearless one at that, I must say I am surprised that he could be that way for greys are known for being afraid of everything. I too have to caution that these games might be cute now but the day could come it might turn deadly, maybe you could put the dogs in another room when she is out. Would love to see some pictures and what is her name?
-
The IRN has a ring around his neck so that means he is a male, they are both gorgeous and two of my favorites, I am still talking myself out of getting an IRN, thanks for sharing them with us.

Why is it that breeders automatically think we want our babies clipped, we have heard this story over and over again with other members and their baby greys? Penny is right, it can take up to a year for all the flight feathers to molt out and be replaced as they do it in stages but so glad to hear you will allow Whitney to fly.
-
The waiting, oh what agony it is to have to wait, been there and done that but it will be over soon I promise. When you do get to see him for the first time please share a picture or two with us as we love to admire the babies, they are so precious.
-
Please feel free to post an update or share some pictures of Momo with us as we would love to see him.
-
Just take your time with him and be very patient as he learns to be more comfortable, never push him for more than he is willing to give and the day will come when he will allow more interaction, he may have been neglected in his former home so he is very fearful of trusting again.

I am one of those Dan, Josey has never really bitten me, she has beaked and clamped down but never drawn blood, she usually just pushes my hand away if she doesn't want me to touch her or do what I was trying to do and I respect her wishes so I don't push it, of course it helps that I am her favored one.

Hello Jla and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you have decided to get a grey. I like the fact that you are doing your research before plunging into buying one, a potential bird owner should find out all they can before the purchase to see if the bird fits into their lifestyle and what requirements are necessary for the health and well being of such bird. Personally I think you have chosen wisely for greys tend to be very quiet compared to cockatoos and macaws but like them they do require a good part of your time and attention. Please browse thru the many threads here for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

Hello Gemma and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you are finally going to get that grey you have been wanting for so long. I would love to see some pictures of Benny and Claude as I love IRNs and Alexandrines, we have an other birds room where you can share them with us.
