  1. 3 weeks & we did it!!! I'm probably more happy about it than Nilah is, although, her personality is starting to come back, she is excited and is finally talking more like before! So I'm thinking she is happy too!
  2. Please be careful with this light especially: AvianSun Deluxe Floor Lamp I purchased one and positioned it just as it shows. MY tag got a very badly sunburned eye which which at first the vet thought was an eye infection. We treated her with eye drops for 2 weeks with no relief before I realized it was the light burning her eye. Once I removed it and tossed the entire light & bulb it in the trash, her eye cleared up in a few days. I previously used a different light that sits on the top of her cage, I went back to that with with no problems.
  3. I live in the country, no bad air outside, but I have noticed a deduction in the dander, and the air just seems cleaner inside. My son has asthma and after putting them thru my house and each kid had one in their bedroom, he rarely had any asthma problems. I have on in my bedroom next to Talons sleep cage, and when I vacuum the filter once a week, it is covered in bird dander. I had bought the ones that were advertised in Bird Talk for many years. But I know they don't have a very good business reputation. JWR Germicidal Bird Systems is the brand. I don't know if they sell them anymore, but I have a lifetime supply of filters and bulbs. They come with a filter than can be vacuumed and washed as well as a germicidal bulb. I run them 24/7.
  4. Yes, I use an air cleaner. It really makes a world of difference. I have many throughout my house.

    Sick Baby

Muse, I am in tears over your loss. I am so sorry, you did everything so fast to help him. YOU are certainly not to blame. Please know that time will lessen the pain, although you will never forget. You are always welcome and I hope to see you again in time here. Your family cares about you and your flock. YOU have much to share..
  6. With 3 cages, I probably couldn't turn it to zoom in.
  7. Wow, I would love a zoom in one, but its out of my budget. I will have to live with what I have.
  8. Jeez, I don't think I can help, other than to say my D-link was inexpensive, simple to set up and I access it on all computers and any cell phone anytime.
  9. Wow, that just goes to show you how must trust she has in you.
  10. Ah...well when the cat's away...the mice do play!
  11. OMG! How do you get her to lay still on her back like that? What a greyt picture!
  12. I have one I now (thanks to you guys) run at 74 in my bird room. I have a big house and keep my thermostat at 70 when I am home and 67 when I am at work or sleeping. I hate the cold!
  13. MY parrots don't like the dehydrated fruits or veggies.. I feed frozen veggies a lot Don't forget, NO GARLIC to your birds.

    Piper!

Here is a little video of my daughter.(the chosen one) and Piper. HE spits at me constantly...but LOVES my daughter. He loves it when she blows lightly on the back of his neck as you can see.
  15. I have had an ongoing problem with Talon opening up my kitchen cupboards, climbing inside to perch on whatever bowl or dish she finds. That doesn't sound so bad, but my dishes, glasses etc. get covered with bird dander! OR she chews up whatever she can find, OR she throws stuff onto the floor...I have tried everything you can imagine. SO , here I am, sitting on the couch trying to watch tv, and jumping up every couple of minutes to yell at her or spray her with water to get her off. SO.. here is my newest solution and it seems to be working...EXCEPT when I, or one of my kids forgets to look up, and we open a cupboard to get a dish only to get hit in the head...YES, my kids aren't to happy about it, but oh well! If you click on the blurred pic, you can see the video tour of my new décor!
  16. I have had to towel Rikki or Nilah o occasion to get them to their vet appts. I NEVER let them win that battle. Once they are, they are fine s long as I stay calm and reassure them the whole way it is fun! I have never had any luck making getting them used to their carriers. Talon loves hers, but the others want nothing to do with them, even tho I have left them out in full view to climb on and play with for week at a time.
  17. Well it is definitely hormonal time in my house, especially with Rikki. I have a wooden box that sits above my kitchen cabinet that belongs to Talon and has for the last 3 years. Rikki is looking for any space that she can make her own nest. I have other wooden boxes above other kitchen cabinets, but at this tie, she wants this one. Today, Rikki was in it, and Talon said enough! They got into fight in it and Nilah decided to join in...the 3 of them were fighting, I yelled at them as I jumped up and flew over there with a water squirt bottle to spray and stop it. It wasn't working, so I jumped up on the counter and climbed up there, Poor Talon was on her back with her feet up screaming...Rikki was upright and not moving...I pulled the box up over them and out and they all flew off around the house in circles1 Well when the dust settled, I checked Talon out who was extremely upset, and she looked fine, Rikki was fine of course, and Nilah hadn't gotten anything in, she just didn't want to feel left out. I kept Talon on my shoulder while I got ready for work and she seemed happy about that. SO, now they are all in their cages and I am at work. I am taking all the boxes down until this season is over. It was a very scary incident...
  18. Dave, I think what he means is when you are eating, they like to flick their beak on your plate just to hear the sound. Talon will flick her beak on many things just to hear the 'cling' sound. When I offer her a drink out of a small glass cup I am holding, she takes a small sip, then goes cling, then another sip, then cling, so on and so forth until she pushes it away to signal she's done drinking.
  19. I never worry BOUT DOING any prep work before a vet visit. I feel that, in itself will get them wondering what's up, or stress them. I Just put them in their travel cages, talk to them the whole way, and make it sound fun. They do fine, and are a bit tired when they get home, but happy.
  20. Talon LOVES doing that! She seems to like the sound she makes.
  21. Oh she knows, she was fine for her first 4 1/2 years...then she decided she was too good for her cage ! It was heartbreaking to see her in her cage in the mornings..all alone... She has become a sweetheart once again, I think she just got too big for her britches! AND I am SO GLAD I didn't take anyone's advice and clip her. Knowing her personality and how sensitive she is, it would have destroyed her spirit.
  22. Talking shouldn't be a concern. As Dave says, it should never be the reason you adopt a grey or any bird for that reason. It's nice if the do, but if they don't, it can be normal as well.
