  1. So, I got a call from my carpenter today...he was almost finished and wanted me to come home and see it. ( what he really wanted was a check for the finished product) They were just finishing so I couldn't take any pics, but I am quite excited it was just about done. I will take pics and post them when I get home from work. I wish I had taken before and after pics. The floor was already there as it is a raised deck, there was already a roof, but it is unfinished )on the inside) and will remain that way from so I can just screw things in and hang boings from it. There was a couple feet up from the floor that was framed, so they closed it in and we put wire mesh that's 1 " x 1/2" GAP in panels on the upper 3 walls. There was 2 open door ways, no frames or doors, so we added the doors and frames. The deck is attached to my living room, so that wall has windows into my living room and a door. When I am home, I hope to allow them out there, I don't think I am comfortable with leaving them there unattended unless I am in the house somewhere. Can't wait to clean it all up and start getting tree stands and hanging perches etc. NOW if the warm weather will ever come. I can imagine Nilah will LOVE it! She loves to sit in front of a screened window and look out, she will do that for hours. Rikki....I'm not so sure I can even get her out there...Talon will be curios, but scared..but she will eventually be happy I think. I am leary of this, as now they have no desire for the outside (except Nilah) and don't attempt to ever go near the doors, I am afraid this will change after they get a taste..
  2. Just pick the room you want your thread to go into , click on the upper Left where it says New Thread, and go at it!!

  3. I am glad I finally bit the bullet and had it done. The best part is, it is attached to my living room. The worst part, it doesn't get any sun...
  4. Well after much research on other sites and others who have built outdoor avairys on a budget. I found the wire, ordered it, and my builders started it today. They bought 2 larger doors, framed it in, and are putting matching siding on it. They said they will be done tomorrow! It already looks really nice, I'm quite excited! Now if the cold weather would stop. And if I have any $$ left, I will be shopping for perches and trees to fill it with!
  5. I guess I need to use a paste spread to keep it together..my noodles just pop open even with a little. I managed to cut it up and put it in their bowls anyways. I will see what they ate when I get home from work. I give them a variety of cooked veggies almost every day with either pasta, rice or quinoa, and a few breadsticks or pieces of rolls, so they pick thru it always.
  6. This is such a great idea. I tried it, but I stead of sweet potatoe, I useda variety of veggies. I couldn't keep it rolled up, and when I did roll it, the veggies fell out. I ended up putting another lasagna noodle on top like a sandwich and folding it in half. I will cut it up to serve it but it just falls apart..
  7. My condolences...you did all you could and you let her go peacefully. My prayers are for you and your family, I know it is difficult, but know you gave her the best life she could ever have.
  8. NO I didn't. Nilah has her amazon strut, she does the same exact kind of strut, she fans her tail, struts back and forth while clucking and pinning her eyes! It is something to see for sure!
  9. Great story!! Talon my tag is the joker in my house. She loves to play tricks on us. Jeez, I can't think of a particular story right now...duh!! But I will return with one.
  10. Oh my! What a funny story!! I have glass breaking sensors as well. My alarm company recommended not putting them in the bird room, so I only have them where I have walls of windows. I put motion sensors elsewhere. One day, I couldn't get my amazon in her cage, so I left her out in the bird rom. Not thinking...I set the motion sensor and went out the door to go to work, I was just getting to the ramp on the highway when my alarm company called to tell me the motion sensor was going off and did I want to have them call the police....I said, "no, it is my parrot" They laughed, I turned the car around, went home and disarmed it and reset it for the doors & windows only..
  11. Happy happy Birthday! I expect you will be spoiled rotten today!!!
  12. Aww congrats! She is beautiful and you are so lucky to be able to experience the love of an amazon! I look forward to hearing lots more.
  13. Aww. Can't wait for some relief from this minus single digit weather...I have been an empty nester this week. MY kids are all away. My birds have been especially cuddly. Nilah of course is with me on my hand, shoulder leg wherever she can get on me constantly... Ray, there is nothing like it...when I get home and get the birds out of their cages, I walk like a human tree with them all perched on me into the kitchen, Talon & Rikki will get off and go onto their tree stands or perches, but Nilah will stay on my shoulder, rub her head over and over against my cheek, and say oooohh over and over ...just love her!
  14. Okay, after much research and the fact that my birds won't append a lot of time in the aviary, I have found this as being the best based on others who have an aviary. And it fits into my budget. http://www.amazon.com/Inch-Gauge-Galvanized-Welded-Fence/dp/B000OWDKJW
  15. I have just hired a carpenter to screen in my back porch that has a roof already, framing, but was never finished. Has anyone ever heard of this product? It seems like this would be safer for my amazon than any other type of screen. Thoughts? Although, it doesn't appear to be very see thru...and my outdoor aviary won't have any sun shining in it.. 16. Night 2, and we had the same outcome...Nilah heard her voice and started up again trying to get to the phone. My daughter has Piper with her, and Nilah was a bit confused as to why Piper took the spot of my daughters face, but then she continued with her conversations with my daughter wjen she came back onto the phone. Talon & Rikki then flew over and started to join in the fun with their whistles to her.
  17. Zoey & your family are in my prayers. Hoping for good news soon.
  18. Thanks everyone, and I was very interested to learn that about dog, I was never aware of that fact, that explains a lot! Katana600, YES, please do try it again! Even tho we text all day, and talk on the phone, I never realized how little it compares to actually seeing my daughters face and talking as tho we were in the same room! It can really fill the void you have when missing your loved ones. KimKim, I am so happy you are able to use it with your husband, although it's not the same as having them physically home, it sure helps fill that loss a little bit and makes such a huge difference. IT is priceless to mE and worth every penny I pay for the extra phone.
  19. So recently, my sweet daughter has moved away from home for a fantastic job to another state 12 hours away... that's a whole other topic. And in my house, there are 4 of us with cell phones, 2 have iphones, and 2 have samsung galaxy S3. Last week 2 of my sons had birthdays, to share in the fun, my youngest son used Facetime on his iphone so his sister could share in the birthday cake and presents via her iPhone. I was just blown away with it, sooo much better than skype, and we all had a blast! So I had to have an iPhone as well just for that purpose. I added a line to my account and got my iPhone today. So I dialed up my daughter on FaceTime, and chatted a bit, then I turned my phone towards Nilah my amazon, she took one look at my daughter and instantly started playing the game she plays only with my daughter! their game is Nilah says, "hello world!.." and my daughter says, "this is Nilah." they do this back and forth, and then Nilah says to her "hi talon" something she only says to my daughter. Her eyes were Pinning and she was clucking with excitement like she does. I then took the phone to Rikki and she cooed at her and watched her talk to her, she also whistled at my daughter . Then Talon, she whistled and made the sounds she only does around my daughter. I tried it with my dogs who adore my daughter, they didn't even notice her. I was amazed at how my birds saw her and tried to communicate with her! I was just amazed at that fact and wanted to share it. We will be doing lots of FaceTime with the birds, me and my daughter. It really makes the distance and missing her much easier.
  20. Nice cage! If you click on the thumbnail, it seems to be upright!
