  1. Happy happy Birthday! I expect you will be spoiled rotten today!!!
  2. Aww congrats! She is beautiful and you are so lucky to be able to experience the love of an amazon! I look forward to hearing lots more.
  3. Aww. Can't wait for some relief from this minus single digit weather...I have been an empty nester this week. MY kids are all away. My birds have been especially cuddly. Nilah of course is with me on my hand, shoulder leg wherever she can get on me constantly... Ray, there is nothing like it...when I get home and get the birds out of their cages, I walk like a human tree with them all perched on me into the kitchen, Talon & Rikki will get off and go onto their tree stands or perches, but Nilah will stay on my shoulder, rub her head over and over against my cheek, and say oooohh over and over ...just love her!
  4. Okay, after much research and the fact that my birds won't append a lot of time in the aviary, I have found this as being the best based on others who have an aviary. And it fits into my budget. http://www.amazon.com/Inch-Gauge-Galvanized-Welded-Fence/dp/B000OWDKJW
  5. I have just hired a carpenter to screen in my back porch that has a roof already, framing, but was never finished. Has anyone ever heard of this product? It seems like this would be safer for my amazon than any other type of screen. Thoughts? Although, it doesn't appear to be very see thru...and my outdoor aviary won't have any sun shining in it.. 6. Night 2, and we had the same outcome...Nilah heard her voice and started up again trying to get to the phone. My daughter has Piper with her, and Nilah was a bit confused as to why Piper took the spot of my daughters face, but then she continued with her conversations with my daughter wjen she came back onto the phone. Talon & Rikki then flew over and started to join in the fun with their whistles to her.
  7. Zoey & your family are in my prayers. Hoping for good news soon.
  8. Thanks everyone, and I was very interested to learn that about dog, I was never aware of that fact, that explains a lot! Katana600, YES, please do try it again! Even tho we text all day, and talk on the phone, I never realized how little it compares to actually seeing my daughters face and talking as tho we were in the same room! It can really fill the void you have when missing your loved ones. KimKim, I am so happy you are able to use it with your husband, although it's not the same as having them physically home, it sure helps fill that loss a little bit and makes such a huge difference. IT is priceless to mE and worth every penny I pay for the extra phone.
  9. So recently, my sweet daughter has moved away from home for a fantastic job to another state 12 hours away... that's a whole other topic. And in my house, there are 4 of us with cell phones, 2 have iphones, and 2 have samsung galaxy S3. Last week 2 of my sons had birthdays, to share in the fun, my youngest son used Facetime on his iphone so his sister could share in the birthday cake and presents via her iPhone. I was just blown away with it, sooo much better than skype, and we all had a blast! So I had to have an iPhone as well just for that purpose. I added a line to my account and got my iPhone today. So I dialed up my daughter on FaceTime, and chatted a bit, then I turned my phone towards Nilah my amazon, she took one look at my daughter and instantly started playing the game she plays only with my daughter! their game is Nilah says, "hello world!.." and my daughter says, "this is Nilah." they do this back and forth, and then Nilah says to her "hi talon" something she only says to my daughter. Her eyes were Pinning and she was clucking with excitement like she does. I then took the phone to Rikki and she cooed at her and watched her talk to her, she also whistled at my daughter . Then Talon, she whistled and made the sounds she only does around my daughter. I tried it with my dogs who adore my daughter, they didn't even notice her. I was amazed at how my birds saw her and tried to communicate with her! I was just amazed at that fact and wanted to share it. We will be doing lots of FaceTime with the birds, me and my daughter. It really makes the distance and missing her much easier.
  10. Nice cage! If you click on the thumbnail, it seems to be upright!
  11. Welcome to our family! What a wonderful story. I am so happy you took smokey home. Love the pics, and I,look forward to hearing more! ,
  12. oops...Never thought about that....I better fix that...I'm sneaking at work, so my mind is pre-occupied.. Thanks
  13. I saw this from a friend and thought it had some good info: http://avianandexoticvets.com/why-did-my-bird-suddenly-die/
  14. wow, I am no expert, but 32 degrees is too cold. did i misread your post? temp should be at thevery least 70 degrees. Hopefully Dave will be on soon to give you the correct info.
  15. Thanks everyone for all your encouraging words. You have made me feel better. I am off this morning, I let the birds out for a bit for breakfast, but they feel so ethinf isn't right and aren't interested in eating. So, I will put them in their cages and head out soon. Thanks again, I do feel better about leaving them thanks to all of you. Will update you when I get back. Judy, I am heading your way, down south to NC. Wish I had time for a visit!!
  16. I have to go away for 4 days, My 3 birds will be stuck in their cages from fri pm until wed pm...... I am distraught over this ....lap, Talon wont be able to sleep in her sleep cage. This will be the first time she will be left in her day, play cage at night. How will they fair? I'm so upset.....but I have absolutely no one that can handle them. My boys will feed them and give them fresh water, but that's it....
  17. Judy is right, the whole dominance thing in them being higher than us is completely untrue. I have perches across my sky lights and it doesn't make any difference, they still know who's in charge....
  18. Having perches all over the house never makes a difference, they chose to land where they want, and will chew the woodwork, windows door frames doors when they feel like it.... As for the shower perches being on the windows, my birds will chew the suction cups off and then all will go crashing down onto the floor as they fly off!
  19. We too are getting hammered over and over. But in the North as you know life continues, work goes on, no snow days at work, so we trudge on in, come home shovel some more and do it all the next day. Just always make sure we gas for the generator, gas in the cars and always have bread and milk....
  20. I would have to say, i believe you are in the wrong forum my friend...
  21. I have a deck off the back of my house. A good portion of it has a roof ,partial open walls and 2 doors. I would love to make it into a summer bird room. It doesn't really get any sun. I want to screen it in, but want to use SAFE scree/wire. DOes anyone have any advice? I am only going to use the room in the daytime, they would be in the house at night. Just want a fun bird room where they can get fresh air!
  22. Nancy, I would love some pics of your bird room. I would really like to make a room where they would be safe...just need some ideas..
  23. I know you say it doesn't emit any harmful fumes, but I have a self cleaning oven about 8 years old. When ever I have tried to use it, and my other one prior to this one, my eyes stung terribly and because of that fact, I felt it is never safe for my birds.
  24. Don't worry that 2 is too young. All my birds showed mating instincts early on. Just make sure you don't pet him any further down than his head/neck area. IF he gets to crazy, distraction is the key or put him on a play stand when he does that. You don't want to encourage it, you want to discourage it, but do it with out making a big deal. He will stop in due time. MAke sure he gets 12 hours of sleep/dark time, that will also help.
