  1. Congrats! I have 2 greys, they tolerate each other, but are not bonded together. There is a jealous issue, so make sure your first grey gets everything first. B)
  2. OMG! How awful! You are right, diet is so important to them. I always wonder if they get enough calcium, there really is no way to know without testing.
  3. Sorry, our video section has had technical problems, and has not yet been fixed. Most members use u-tube and post the link here.
  4. If you think a bird makes a mess, wait until you have a baby spitting up all over, and leaking diapers. That will seem "neat" compared to the mess they make as toddlers and young children.....not to mention the mess they leave behind as teenagers! And I speak from experience, I have 4 kids, and 4 birds! Don't pass any judgment, or make any decisions until you have the baby and your hormones return to normal in my opinion. Your brain is highly affected by your hormones.
  5. I am so happy for you! That's great news! :woohoo:
  6. Lyric, I have both a tag and a cag. When I was looking for a grey, I could only find tags cags were hard to come by in this part of the US. I have also disagree about the cag being a better talker and mimic. MY tag sounds exactly like my family in voices. SHe is a quick learner, and speaks volumes. Where as my cag has a voice of her own, and her vocabulary is much less than that of my tag.
  7. There are many threads here discussing this issue. Just type cag vs tag in the search bar, and you will find many responses from our members!
  8. As tempted as I am to delete this entire thread, I want to leave it in the hopes that other "newbies" or inexperienced owners will see this as a warning and see the scam for what it is.
  9. Hi & Welcome! I too am interested in your perches. I will be checking them out! Thanks for joining, we are happy you have joined our family! B)
  10. Okay, this is amazing...I clicked on the link above, ordered 1 lb bags of the pellets, seed mix, and treats. Within 30 minutes, I received an email telling me my order has been shipped. Seems hard to believe...
  11. You say this in your profile: "I am the mom of a CAG named Cheeka, A M.M. named KoKo. a Jenday conure named Morgan.... 3 Dobermans 1 cat I work for a Veterinarian and own a stained glass business... I enjoy doing animals in stained glass..." And you state that you are a vet tech....? Where is this Military Macaw named Peaches in the mix, you don't mention it.
  12. I am appalled at the gall of some people!!  Trading pets like they are objects...what's the matter, doesn't go with the decor? We've heard that here before as well.
  13. I have tried numerous times to feed Harrisons to my birds. They hate it! I will definitely try this one! Thanks for posting this. I will let you know how they like it.
  14. HI, I am looking to purchase some jump ropes for my dance studio that I found on Amazon in the UK. Unfortunately, they don't ship to the US. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to help me? I would purchase them myself, but I need help having them shipped to someone in the uk, who would in turn be able to ship them to me in the US. Is this possible from anyone? Please pm me if you can help me. Thanks!
  15. Wonderful!!! I'm so happy you got out and enjoyed the beautiful day. I'm not sure where you live, but I wonder what the temp was? It was -10 here this am, so I long for any warmth!
  16. Jason, sometimes they have a quiet day, just like us. He could just be more tired today. If he is eating and pooping normally, then he's probably okay. But certainly, if he is still quiet tomorrow, I would take him into the vet asap for a check up. Greys hide their illness so well. Please keep us posted.
  17. Okay Dan, you asked for it..... Here are some examples of correct content in my house with my 2 greys: When ever I or one of us, say something to each other, such as, I'm going out to Starbucks, etc." or "please clean up the house", or "Mom, where is..." Rikki says, 'WHAT?' Then we always say, "I said, and we will repeat it, and then she says, "oh." When I first walk in the house after being gone, Rikki will say, "COLD", as that's usually the first thing I say when I walk in the house, or she will always say, "hello!" or "Hi Mom!" Rikki will sit on my pocketbook which I leave by the door, as she knows I will take it when I leave. I think she thinks she is preventing me from leaving... Talon will say, "okay," after I tell my kids what they need to do while I'm gone. When I pick up Talon to put her in her play cage right before I have to leave the house, she will say, "Be back soon, okay?" This is something I always say to her after I put her in her cage. Of course, we all know that when our phone rings, they all say "Hello?" But my cell phone plays the song, Make a Memory by Bon Jovi, and every time it starts playing, they both say, "Hello?" Talon will say, "Ouch!" if I accidentally bump her, or something touches her. One day, Rikki came over to her, and tried to tweak Talon's beak, Talon yelled, "HEY!" When I say 'it's time for bed" Talon says, "Want to go nuh nites?" When Talon is thirsty, she will say, "Thirsty Bird." until she gets a drink of juice from one of us. Talon will also peek out of her sleep cage in the morning, ( I cover it with a sheet at night) and say, "Peek a boo!" Well, that's enough of my examples!! They are just so smart, they never cease to amze us with their intelligence!

    butternut squash?

I steam the butternut squash, and mash it up. They absolutely go nuts over it!!
  20. Sorry,I can't help. I have never left my birds....
  21. Great advice everyone! Yes, wait until the bird is fully weaned. This past summer,I adopted a 2 1/2 year old grey, and she has bonded to me instantly. B) My other grey came to me at 8 1/2 weeks, and was fully weaned. They are all different.<br><br>Post edited by: Talon, at: 2009/01/25 16:49
  22. luvparrots: You are so right, starting out all gung ho is a recipe for failure. Start out slow and easy. If you get too tired, or too sore the next day or so, then you won't want to continue. I started running for the first time ever in my lazy life when I was 47 years old. I was getting laughed at from my family who said I wouldn't last 2 weeks if that. I started out slow, and set my goals to the house just down the street a bit and told myself I would walk back. I did that, Then each day as I felt better, I would set a small goal, such as going to a different tree, or the next telephone pole, and maybe try running back a short distance. This kept me going as I wasn't getting discouraged. I was ACTUALLY making progress!!! I ran every morning first thing, and in only 2 months, I was running 2 miles!! I haven't stopped since. SO keep up what you are doing, and please check in here with us!! I look forward to living your progress with you! Karma for you for taking that HUGE first step and dusting off those machines. :woohoo:
  23. YAY!! I'm so proud of you!!!! And starting out slow is the best way to do it. You go!! KArma coming your way...:woohoo:
