  1. I had my first grey, a tag, at 8 1/2 weeks old. A girl. When she was 2 1/2, we adopted another girl, a cag, 2 months younger. Once the new bird came, they tolerated each other, but because she is much bigger, she is the boss, and is accepted as such. I have always given my first grey all of the firsts, such as my attention, food and such so she wouldn't feel put out. But when the cag comes near her, even to preen her, she says, Uh uh, no way! and she will go to the other side of the table or couch. I was worried about fighting, but that never happened. They both accepted each other instantly, and things are great. I have been known to wear a grey on each shoulder as I go thru the house doing things. B)
  2. HI Linda and welcome. I have 4 birds, had two cats and have a bison. I have one fully flighted grey, and one that can only fly maybe 4 feet before crash landing. My bison has tried to jump up and catch my fully flighted bird in the air. We do allow our birds out all day while we are home, and occasionally walk on the floor as they desire. LIke Dave said, you can't train them not too. But we have to keep a constant eye on them and our dog, when that happens. I would be afraid with many dogs, it is their natural instinct no matter how well trained they are to go after a flying or playful object (Birds). Just my opinion.....B)
  3. Wouldn't the soap sting???? I have the cement perches only where they perch when they eat, that way they use them for a short time, but on a regular basis.
  4. Thanks Judy! I know you'll be there for me to help me when I'm studying instead of playing here...although, I can't really stay away, all this scientific stuff makes me require many breaks!
  5. OMG, the poor thing. You really shouldn't need to trim them if you have the cement perches also. His nail will be sore for a few days. You may see him holding it close to his body and standing one footed more than normal.
  6. Dan is right and offers great advice. I just went thru the terrible twos with both my greys. They are now 3 and 3 months, and are calming down a bit.
  7. Thanks guys! I appreciate your support. DAN, I have had 4 kids, my swimsuit photo days are over! :pinch:
  8. CAN WE PLEASE START THIS UP AGAIN????? I will report in, I am still going to the gym, but supplementing it with the P90X program by Tony Horton. I am also enrolled in school to become a certified personal fitness trainer by the ISSA. I will keep you posted on my progress. It is an extremely in-depth and hard program, but I am determined to finish it and pass!
  9. It's fine. Don't worry. My birds have had Skittles, twizzlers, Starburst, Mike & Ikes, Good n Fruity, among other things they have snuck in the last 3 years...:pinch: They have even gotten into choc. chip cookies, and have no effect at all. Honestly, I don't eat that stuff anymore...but my kids get it on occasion. It really isn't a diet I feed my kids or my birds!

    Granola Bars

Talon LOVES my "OH YEAH" Protein bars! I eat them as they are much healthier than the granola bars.
  11. EFGriffith, I was following the original poster around here yesterday, as he was continually trying to post pictures, and not being successful. He would then start another thread and repeat. I was deleting them as I saw them, and was sending him the 2 "HOW TO" tutorials that are a "sticky" in the photography room, but he left. You then made a reply, to which it had some good advice. I made the decision to leave it, in hopes he would see it sooner, and be a bit more successful. Please don't take things so personally here.....
  12. These are beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing them with us! B)

    Affection

Moved here by Talon: Posted by Nikki:: Affection - 2009/01/20 14:57 Was wondering what is happening here... My timneh, now 6 months old is really enjoying the pruning she gets from my green cheek conure, Korkie. I hold them both together on my lap & supervise this very carefully. It was a way for me to enjoy them both at the same time without the other getting jealous. However I'm noticing that Nikki my grey is not allowing me to scratch her head as often & is always begging to be pruned instead. She is still very sweet to me & wants my attention, wants to be held & loves to sit on my shoulder. We are together most of the day in the same rooms unless I go out so she gets plenty of my attention which she loves. I don't allow the 2 birds to be together unless I am holding them both. Also my little conure (2 yrs old) will not allow herself to be groomed by the grey, it is strictly a one way deal. I guess it's a dominance thing. Korkie allows only lovin' from me or my husband. I am happy that the 2 birds like each other enough to have this relationship so I'd hate to end it. Any thoughts? 20. WOW Fairymyst, I didn't know that about the migraines. I am one of those migraine headache sufferers. Karma for you giving e that info. B)
  21. They look sickly. I would almost bet that their life span is not anywhere near as long as a REAL African Grey.
  22. You really should google it, there is a wealth of info on birds and granuloma.
  23. Talonsis' laptop has broken, we are waiting for tech support to come fix it. Then she will finish this up everyone!
