1. Dee, I am so sorry. How sad for you all. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
2. I am pleased to announce the opening of our Newest Room! Welcome to the Happy Bird-Day Room for all our feathered friends. This is a room for members to celebrate & share their birds birthdays. Birthday photo's, cake, presents...come one, come all! Let's Celebrate!! :woohoo: :woohoo:
3. particle77: YEs, Talon is a tag.
4. That's hilarious! How he stuffs himself into that glass I'll never know!!
5. Hmmm. Rikki's behaviour soundsjust like Dayo's. But the problem time is first thing in the am when they all come out for breakfast. All goes well until they are done eating with me. No one gets one on one time, we all just hang out together while I check the computer, get cages ready, do house chores etc. It is usually the first 1-2 hours she misbehaves. The rest of the day, she is very well behaved for a parrot...
6. Awww, how cute! Thanks for sharing these with us!
7. Ha Ha! I love that the key is still intact. My bird pop mine off in a mili-second!
8. I agree with zzzelama. Watching the 2 birds and how different their personalities are is fun!! What's most enjoyable, is watching the 2 of them fly thru the house chasing each other and yelling as they do!! :)
9. Hi guys, Thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate it. What Rikki is going thru, has suddenly taken a turn for the worse in her behavior... Dan, I have things hanging all over my house, tree stands everywhere, cargo nets, jolly balls, every room has several things hanging....it looks like one giant bird cage instead of a house for humans! THis is a sudden change for her personality, I think she is jealous of Nilah perhaps, even though I spend a lot of time trying to make her feel special. She is very possessive of me and I think her anger of not being in full control of me is spilling over to her destructive behavior. I am trying to find a way to curb that behavior somewhat.
10. Luvparrots, Thanks for the ideas. SHe does have a toy bucket in her cage with various foot toys wrapped up in paper. She also has a set of plastic drawers filed with little stuff such as cut up straws, wooden beads, erasers etc. to throw on the floor of her cage, but when she's out, she doesn't play with them.
11. I am having a horrible time with Rikki, she is so destructive in her daily behavior. I have tried more attention, less attention, one on one attention, distracting her, buying her various toys, redirection, cage time, but nothing seems to work. She has full flight and is very good at it. She came to me 2 years ago with her wings clipped and I let them grow out. IT took her a long time to master her skills. She has really become a bully towards Nilah and sometimes Talon. I am at my wits end with her. I am not really considering this, but I am curious if anyone here has done a light clip to see if this discourages some of her behavior. I also am wondering if her behavior is hormonal. She is sweet and kind one minute, and then has a hairline temper and will attack the next. Any suggestions or experience I would appreciate. I am imagining this is a stage I have to try and get thru. Her behavior has been going on for a few months now. She is very moody, one day she is great and very well behaved, the next...a monster and seems to have a need to destroy and fight things, but getting her to do toys only, boxes, etc. only works for a couple of minutes, then it's on to everything else! :pinch:
12. I don't know what exactly this bird says, maybe a couple of words or whistles. But I DO know that Talon starting talking at 2 1/2 months. I had her since she was 8 1/2 weeks old, and I talked to her all the time. I spent alot of time trying to teach her to talk. She did have a few words at that age. So it is possible if humans spent a ton of time and I have found that some birds are exceptionally smarter than others.
13. Karma for you guys who resurrected this great reminder!! {Feel-good-000200A2}
14. To set the record straight, as an Admin here for the last 3 years, I can say with all honesty, I have never seen Dave write any posts where he has EVER trashed anothers advice. He is a very experienced bird owner in all aspects of raising babies, rescues, problem behaviors and overall bird behavior. He has ALWAYS treated every member with respect. I have learned a lot by reading his advice and value his expertise. That being said, I have the same issues with one of my greys attacking my 14 year old son. She used to enjoy treats from him and sitting with him, then one day, for whatever reason, she would dive bomb him, he would dive for the floor, and she found it a great game to play whenever she sees him. We have tried many things, but the only thing that works for us, is a small green spray bottle with water that he holds and if she tries to play her game, he lightly sprays her with it. She HATED water, so she flies away! It works for us,now she only has to see the bottle and she changes her mind. You sound like a very patient owner and I applaud you for that. You will find what works for you. Hang in there, you have gotten some good advice.

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2009/12/17 01:45
15. Thanks guys! She is such a fun bird to have! Very entertaining!! :)
16. My birds all eat dried pasta. I buy the egg noodles and use them as a treat. Talon and Rikki have "nightly noodle" time. They loves being fed one after the other while we are on the couch. I also buy the long fusilini ones, and when I have to put them in their cages when I have to leave, they each get half as a treat handed to them as I put them on their perch in their cage.
17. Jill, I'm here scratching my head wondering how you keep a grey in a mansion like that?????
18. Hmm. Don't know, How is the lighting? Hopefully others will chime in with more knowledge.
19. Today when I was in the shower getting ready for work. Nilah was getting hers. She opens her wings and covers her face with them, but it doesn't keep her from getting wet. She LOVES her shower. We have such fun it's hard to shut the water off and stop! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: The bathroom was foggy we where in there so long, so some of the pics aren't very clear.... This is my very favorite!!
20. Rikki turned 4 years old today. She has been in a great mood all day! I didn't by her anything special, as she got lots and lots of toys last month at the Bird of Paradise Store! I did put a few new toys I was saving from there in her cage last night. B) Here is a picture I took of her this morning while I was getting ready for work. She LOVES to hang out in the bathroom and throw everything out of the drawers...:pinch:
21. Hmmmmm...........Let's see, Talon first: lampshades replaced 4 times, mini blinds replaced 3 times, remotes, papers, desk sets that holds papers, pens, pencils. Kids homework, 5 laptop keyboards, chargers, lots of earrings, all zippers, coats, hats, curtains, my blackberry, computer mouse, eyeliner pencils, the list goes on and on. Rikki......laptop chargers, keyboards, sweatshirts, zippers, remotes, glasses, dishes, any food box you touch, doorways, windowsills, chews holes in couches, pens, pencils, all papers, wallet, 3 blackberry cases, ziploc bags, prescription bottles, she loves to throw things on the floor and watch them break into hundreds of pieces.....:pinch: Nilah.....nothing yet, but she is only 7 months old.:side:
22. Karma for you Supernova for starting this very interesting and fun topic. :) Mine is easy, our first grey was my son's and he named her "Talon". 9was posting from my BB so, spelling things correctly can be difficult sometimes.

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2009/12/10 20:35
23. {Feel-good-0002006E} This is the funniest thread I have ever seen!! You guys are all NUTS!!! I think Dan and I should have an admin meeting and perhaps make a room for you guys, you know.....a place to hang out while the meds kick in.........or a place for all the nutty ones to gather..........
24. Hi Gizmo, It's great that you are willing to let Gizmo fly. One of my greys came to me with clipped wings and had the same trouble once her feathers grew out enough to start flying. It was trial and error for her for quite a while. I would say it was probably a couple of months before she was consistent with it. It was a full 6 months before she could maneuver and fly and land anywhere with ease. After the first few months, she would fly the same route and land on the same spots that she knew she could handle.
