OH, I am so sorry to hear this. I don't have any experience with this. Your bird needs to see a vet. Here is a link on others that have had this happen. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/health-room/175208-heavy-metal-poisoning.html#175502 http://www.greyforums.net/forums/health-room/95638-crackers-metal-poisoning.html#95638 good luck and please keep us posted. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

It seems I have “ruffled some feathers†in my decision to open up an Amazon Room. That was never my intention to slight anyone or any Other Bird Species. Opening up rooms for every individual bird and finding moderators for each room would be a huge task that would be a bit taxing on the forum software. We have an Other Bird Room and threads can be started for each bird. This site was developed and built by a loving and devoted grey owner who shall remain nameless, (as per his desire). Our focus here has always been our beloved African Greys. When Ceasarsdad and I first joined this forum, there were 3 rooms, 1 admin, no moderators and under 1000 members, we have dedicated our spare time to build this forum into what it is today. There are 20 rooms, with 5332 members. The only thing we have asked of our members are two things: 1. That they remember that this is a family forum,. 2. That we are from all parts of the world and everyone is to be treated with dignity and respect. Ceasarsdad and I have spent countless hours of our lives here for the past 3 years. Many of those hours and work is undetected by most members because we are working behind the scenes. We have used our own personal financial resources to offer gifts to members who won contests and to pay for conference calls to our moderator team from all over the world. We do not own this forum, we donate our time as do all the moderators here. There is no pay for anyone, and the owner of the forum does not generate any income from this site as well. We are here because we love our birds and want nothing but the best for them. Here we have developed a family of members that are full of knowledge and are willing to spend their time helping others give their birds the best life possible. That being said, after all the many hours spent here on my own, and after searching with no success on finding an Amazon Forum, rather than leave this wonderful community and the many friends I have made, I have decided to “reward†my efforts for the past 3 years and open a room that I wanted. To share and learn with the many other amazon owners here. Many of us own both amazons as well as greys and many other bird species. Some of you make think that this room is selfish of me, maybe it is, I have always done what I feel is in the best interest of our members, but this one time, I have opened this room as I see it as a great resource. Those of you that have Amazons, know how different they are from greys, not only in personality, but their requirements and their needs are very different from other birds. So, if I have offended any other bird species or members, I apologize. I was very excited about opening this room, but that excitement is now met with guilt. This is not directed at any one member in particular, I just wanted to clear the air about my reasons for singling out a bird species and opening a room dedicated to them. Sincerely, Penny

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Me first!!!  I have had Nilah (YCA) for 2 months. She is 8 months old. She is such fun! She can say, "FIRE FIRE FIRE! WOO WOO WOO WOO!" She yells, "HI BIRDS!" which is what I do whenever I walk in the door. She says "hi Nilah", "Your a good bird", "you okay?" and she laughs like I do. My 2 greys can say what she says and mimic her amazon call. She is incredibly outgoing and such a big show off. When ever a new person comes over, she lights up and shows off all her talents! She was the hit of the party on xmas with the relatives. The only thing she is afraid of is the vacume cleaner. Anything else you show her, she loves instantly! Well, that's all the bragging for the moment...as you can tell, I adore her!

Those are adorable!! Thank you for sharing them with us, Just loved the one on his back. :woohoo: :woohoo:

Ahhhh...yup, a little late I am on the moderator announcement..... Sorry, stopped to eat some dinner with the birds....YUP, they LOVE lasagna! :woohoo:

Welcome to Our Amazon Room! Why are we singling out Amazons for a room you might ask, when we already have an Other Birds Room? Well, I will explain….many members here at Greyforums have Amazons in their bird family. Most of you know that I recently adopted a Yellow Crown Amazon (Nilah) when I went to the Bird of Paradise Superstore. After doing lots and lots of searching for info, reading, even looking for forums for Amazons where I could learn as much as possible, I have found that there really is no place out there where you can get anything other than the usual generic information. I have learned more here from the many members that have them already than I have anywhere else. We have such a valuable resource in our forum family from members that have Amazons. I thought why not use our resident “experts?†That being said "WELCOME TO OUR AMAZON ROOMâ€! A room for sharing, asking questions, offering advice, telling stories, learning about their diets (as they differ from greys), sharing pictures, (you know what show-offs they are), or just chatting about their crazy antics. I am very excited about this room, and look forward to welcoming everyone’s Amazon into our Grey Family! Penny<br><br>Post edited by: Talon, at: 2009/12/28 23:31

AbbysDaddy wrote: I know what you mean about worrying that they fly to the wrong places where they may get burned by lights, etc. I keep a small spray bottle nearby and when they fly to dangerous spots, lightly spray them. My greys HATE being sprayed by the "evil green bottle", and now I only have to pick it up and they fly off or change their minds...

I love the shower picture!! She is a beautiful amazon. Thanks for sharing her with us!

Luvparrots & Katana600, You guys said it perfectly..."it is priceless" to watch the delight in their eyes when they are finally able to fly! And those many tries and clumsy falling are well worth it when the day comes and they master that flight for the very first time....they really do "whoop" with excitement! What a precious moment to witness!

Thank you Dave for taking the time to reply and do it with such class. Yes, the admin like to give members a chance to straighten up. We have been very patient with Jamal and have given him numerous chances to be a contributing respectful member. He has chosen a different path, one that we do not tolerate. He is no longer welcome here. We will watch carefully for any sneaking in.....and that will not be tolerated either. THIS THREAD WILL REMAIN LOCKED AND PLEASE JULKLSY, ON BEHALF OF OUR ADMIN TEAM, ACCEPT OUR APOLOGIZES FOR SUCH AN UNACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE HERE AS A NEW MEMBER I HOPE YOU WILL STAY AND SHARE WITH US YOUR EXPERIENCES AND JOIN OUR FAMILY! B) Penny

I HATE starting this heated topic up again....Wing Clipping....please do a search on it, some of us have very strong opinions on this debate. This is what I think about the subject....clipping a bird that knows the delight of being fully flighted as they were meant to be, thus given their wings...is like cutting off someones legs! That is my own personal opinion....sorry if I sound harsh. I DO understand that others have their own reasons for thinking differently. I just will never agree with them and that is fine. We are all entitled to our own reasons and opinions. But remember, we respect everyone's reasons for doing as they choose.

Oh ya.....I have 2 greys and am amazon. At this point, I do not recommend getting a baby grey just yet. Give Abby time to feel her own special bond and security with your family. You can get one down the road, but it will change Abby's disposition. You want her to blossom with your tlc, not have to share it just yet. Let her bond with you and she will talk more and more as her trust and comfort with you grows. That is my opinion....

Congrats to you and your wife for getting you such a wonderful precious gift! Abby is very capable of learning to enlarge her vocabulary at any age. It will take a few months for her to really settle in and realize that this is her forever home. You will watch her blossom more and more every day. I adopted a 1 1/2 year old grey and I was her third home. It took her a full year to realize that she is here for good! Give Abby lots of love, comfort, and always talk to her. She will pick certain words up quickly. They love it when there is a lot of excitement or high pitch in a word. You will tell she is listening and memorizing what you say to her if you repeat a phrase or word over and over again and she is very still and staring at you. Do that on a regular basis, and before long, you will hear her muttering it and practicing. Then one day, she will say it louder. Praise her and show lots of excitement, that only encourages them. :woohoo:  I'm very happy for you! Please keep us updated, and we would love to see her picture when you can! B)
