  1. Lastnight I had a glass of juice, Sammie was on my arm running trying to get it, and Gabby was with my hubby, I gave Sam a sip and then offered it to Gabby, well, pretty soon they were side by side pulling on the cup, sharing! Until of course between the three of us, we finished it off, then Sam got upset and started after her again...but who knows by next week this time, maybe they'll be sharing fruit....I can only hope...
  2. hi...i agree with estream....the 24 x 24 was the smallest cage allowed for an african grey. and after reading some articles, i guess that was suppose to be the smallest cage for them, and that to be used if the bird is out of the cage most of the time.... the bigger the better... maybe try leaving both cages opened and let her go back and forth...but put food and water in the big cage, after a few days she'll get use to the larger cage and you can remove the smaller one.
  3. did you call your vet? maybe she's sick or was excited to see you?
  4. no its not complaining at all...just good advice and your opinion. i agree with you though, for a week before Gabby came home, we had the cage together, and i'd go over and pretend to feed her, calling her name...etc... lastnight was the first time i was 1 foot away (holding Sam) from Gabby (held by my husband) I told Sam he was a good boy, and gave him a peanut...he didn't even try to fly or talk to her...the peanut kept him happy...and occupied so I could get close. tonight we'll try to set down on the couch with both of them, and of course a treat....thanks for all your advice!!!!
  5. someone said peanuts were a good choice for a treat but limit the amount. i actually use the toddler banana cookies....they're healthy, sugar and sodium free, and cheap, and both of my birds LOVE them....as for a dvd, I just use dora the explorer...and sesame street. I know, I know...not much help...sorry.
  6. I'm for clipping, I am sorry but if one of my babies escaped I'd die, all it takes is one second, like my coworker who lost her cockatiel when her son opened the door while the bird was sitting on her shoulder...in a different room. the birds has not been seen again, and I'm sure could not have lasted the cold winter here. She came to work crying... After spending time, money and giving your heart to your feathered friend, do you want to take that chance?

    Bitting

What kind of life did she have before you adopted her? Is she biting to "hurt" you? Sounds like she doesn't trust you. Especially if she's only biting when you try to make her step up...makes me thinks she either is scared of something...or maybe the previous owners never taught her this...and she's thinking "you want me to do what?!?!"....just be patient...you might want to offer a peanut or small treat...show her the treat and put your other hand under her breast and say step up (KIND OF A BRIBE)....GOOD LUCK...
  9. JUST A PLAIN "NO"....NOTHING ELSE?
  10. you too. its only been 2 1/2 days that she's been home, and already I can't imagine home without her...she's a joy... this morning my daughter 13yo...was saying "let me hear a woo woo..." and Gabby was babbling oo ooo soooo cute we started laughing, we've been saying hello, and shes saying syllables....eeeeoooo
  11. Thank you. I guess lastnight after watching Sam chase Gabby, it reminded me of when we had brought our dog Lucy home and introduced her to our dog of two years Spot...he was not too happy and chased her also, but within a few wks of love and training, the two became fast friends...so I will be hoping that even if the two feather kids can't be friends at least Sam will "tolerate" Gabby.
  12. well lastnight i had Sam (SC) and my hubby had Gabby (CAG) and Sam (getting wings clipped Friday) flew over and ran up my husbands arm and chased Gabby, CHASED!!! I could not believe it, well my hubby grabbed Sam, and I grabbed Gabby, she was not upset just making noises. Sam went back into his cage and Gabby went back into hers. About 1/2 hour later Sam came out for snack and mommy time...took about 1/2 hour, then it was Gabbys turn. Sam stood on top perch watching the whole time, making ME feel pretty guilty. After that it was bedtime. I guess we'll try this, for a while and see if Sam will accept her into our "flock"...keep your fingers or toes lol crossed.
  13. Congrats! This is the BEST place for information!!!
  14. that and the fact that my sweet and innocent baby turned into a fire ball of vicousness.
  15. sammie always goes into my hair and falls asleep, i think it hurt my heart more than my neck, i was disappointed that he didn't like gabby.
  16. help heck, i have no clue, sounds like you have yourself a velcro bird...ha ha...no funny i'm sorry. If you put her on the play top, maybe give her a special treat that she can only have if she stays up there and give it to her once you put her up on the gym, maybe like a 2 yr old that won't stay in time out....keep putting them on the time out spot, enforce with positiveness (treat) when she stays there, hopefully with any luck she'll find out that when you leave her there and walk away YOU come back...maybe she's afraid you won't ...aw birds what are they thinking???
  17. sounds like she is totally in love with you...
  18. on some website, it talked about how we should only used bottled water not distilled but purified because there is something in water pipes that causes bacteria...have you heard of this? ....where we live we have to filter the water it is disgustingly brownish yellow...suppose to be safe or so they say, but i'm not drinking it and i don't expect our animals too....Can i ask how much time you spend with your birds?
  19. both birds are drinking from bowels, just remember that they need fresh clean water a couple of times or more a day, i always give fresh filtered water in am and then in pm....and then before bed, sam our conure usually ends up bathing in the water at least once daily. not sure how our cag Gabby will bath...handle that obstacle later.
  20. the sun conure....we've had him for about 7 mo's and just brought Gabby CAG home Sunday she is 4mos old, just a baby. We never thought Sammie would be so aggressive, but i've got the mark to prove it. hurt like heck...
  21. she's only a baby....and no matter what kind of bird you have, you ALWAYS have the chance of being bit!! just look at my black and blue bird hicky on my neck LOL... done my little sun conure, after i tried to introduce Sammie Sunconure to our new CAG Gabby, it hurt so bad, I was in tears, but I could not let it effect my attitude toward him, he was just defending his territory----ME.
  22. I just brought our CAG home, she is also 4mos old, she lived in a small cage with her sister until Sunday when we brought her home, and she now lives in a split level cage w/ a playtop on top of shorter level alone. When she is on the cage, does she have toys or treats to keep her occupied? That might help.
  23. Hi, I've used a water bottle for my sunconure, but he kept breaking the lid to the water bottle, snapping it until it would crack and then leak...I'm now only using a water bowel for him and my african grey but that is what the CAG is use to, Sammie the sun conure always baths in the water bowel but at least i'm not replacing the dish, every month like the bottles.
